- First batsman in cricket history to score over 900 runs in a single test series. He accomplished this feat during the 1928-29 Ashes series in Australia.
- Voted by ESPN Cricinfo as the 9th greatest cricketer of all-time.
- First batsman to score over 7000 runs in test cricket. His final tally of 7249 runs in 85 tests stood as a world record before being overtaken by fellow Englishman Sir Colin Cowdrey in 1970. Cowdrey who also equalled his English record of 22 centuries in 1976. Alistair Cook became the highest centurion for England in 2013.
