Baltimore hardcore act Angel Du$t have returned with a new double single “Very Aggressive” / “Love Slam” — their first new music since 2021.
With lead singer Justice Tripp as the centerpiece, Angel Du$t have functioned as a Baltimore hardcore collective of sorts. Most notably, Turnstile’s Daniel Fang, Pat McCrory, and Brendan Yates have been members of the band. On the new songs, Fang shares drums/percussion duties with Thomas Cantwell alongside Daniel Star on guitar, Steve Marino on bass, and Tripp on guitar/vocals.
The single’s A-side, “Very Aggressive,” features guest vocals from Citizen’s Mat Kerekes and is somewhat misleading in nomenclature. While the breakneck tempo, chugging bass line, and Wipers-esque chord voicing are rooted in the more aggro field of punk, Tripp’s knack for melody shines through in the arrangement and anthemic quality of the track, which verges on garage-y power pop.

The 2023 Grammy Awards returned to the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday evening, and while Beyoncé made history by breaking the record for the most Grammy wins of all time, Harry Styles took home Album of the Year for his album “Harry’s House.” Styles also won Best Pop Vocal Album.
Beyoncé took home four awards, bringing her career total to 32 — enough to unseat composer Georg Solti as the winningest artist of all time. But this marks the fourth time in a row she’s lost Album of the Year. An astonishing fact for the Grammy record-holder.
Bonnie Raitt pulled an upset in Song of the Year for “Just Like That,” besting the likes of Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
Lizzo, meanwhile, became the first Black woman to win Record of the Year since Whitney Houston in 1994 for “I Will Always Love You.” Lizzo won for “About Damn Time,” stressing the need for positive,...

Jen Psaki slipped into the studio with seconds to spare.
It was the evening of Nov. 1, a week before the 2022 midterm elections, and the NBC News political unit (not to mention its contributors, like the former White House press secretary) were in overdrive. Just a few minutes earlier Psaki had been in a remote studio appearing on Chris Hayes’ MSNBC program, now she had rushed downstairs to the NBC Washington bureau’s ground floor studio, where she joined anchors Chuck Todd and Kristen Welker as part of a primetime special to tee up the midterms.
The network pulled out all of the stops, with 11 correspondents appearing live from across the country, panelists including Psaki, Senator Claire McCaskill and former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, and Steve Kornacki analyzing key races at his signature touch screen.

Baltimore band Angel Dust has released a remix EP of “Never Ending Game,” featuring new versions by Animal Collective’s Panda Bear and Canadian producer Lunice.
Taken from last year’s surprise EP Lil House, Panda Bear’s remix (above) minimizes the acoustic guitar and adds lush instrumentals, while Lunice’s version is heavier, with bass and synths. “I don’t see the light/Open up the blinds,” Justice Tripp sings. “Gimme some more/No Hot Wheel cars on hardwood floors.”
Lil House was produced by Rob Schnapf, known for his work with Elliott Smith.

President Donald Trump‘s administration on Wednesday revoked Obama-era guidelines telling public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identities.
But Trump hasn’t always been on this side of the transgender rights issue.
In April 2016, after North Carolina enacted HB2, a sweeping law banning people from using bathrooms that don’t match the sex indicated on their birth certificate, Trump said the state had made a mistake.
Transgender people should “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate,” Trump, then the Gop presidential frontrunner, said on the Today show at the time.

For months, both Democrats and Republicans alike suspected that President Donald Trump would not retain federal protections for transgender students that were put in place by an Obama directive. And on Wednesday, it was official: Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced the rollback of the directive, though they did say that other federal laws would still offer discrimination protections to Lgbt students.

Samantha Bee took aim at the Democratic party infighting on Monday, rebuking those members of the left who have been attributing the Democrats' stinging election loss to a focus on identity politics rather than economic issues.
Bee gave short shrift to this argument. "If your panic over a loss makes you abandon both your principles and the people who actually vote for you, then you'll be in the wilderness for a decade," she said. "Or until Trump's cabinet sells the wilderness to oil companies – so really, about a month."

Samantha Bee opened this week’s Full Frontal noting President Barack Obama is busy “child-proofing the Oval Office” while Potus-Elect Donald Trump's Thank-You Tour makes a stop in Fayetteville, Nc tonight. Over the course of the past week I’ve done some things that would make for easy column fodder. I went to Comics Art Brooklyn with my friend and collaborator Robby Barrett, I went to see Doctor Strange with fellow ComicMix columnist Molly Jackson, and I read some new comics and graphic novels I enjoy like Nobrow’s Sp4rx by Wren McDonald. Under normal circumstances I would be writing about one or all of those things today. Today is different though.
It’s election day.
Here in the United States we are voting for our next President, a third of our Senators, our entire House of Representatives, twelve Governors, 1,212 State Senators, 4,711 State House seats, many judges, municipal positions, and ballot initiatives. It’s a lot to keep track of, I know. It’s in all our best interests that we do keep track.
Better yet, vote!

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory went on NBC’s “Meet the Press” to defy protests and criticisms of the state’s so-called bathroom law, widely seen as discriminatory against transgendered Americans. “I do believe in our high schools, in our middle schools, in our universities, we should continue to have the tradition that we’ve been having in this country for years. And we have a women’s facility and a men’s facility. You know, it’s worked out pretty well. And I don’t think we need any further government interference,” the Republican governor told “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd.

Human Right’s Campaign, the country’s largest Lgbt advocacy group, is denouncing North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s executive order on Tuesday, which rolls back some of the provisions of the state’s anti-lgbt “bathroom law.” “The governors actions are an insufficient response to a terrible, misguided law that continues to harm Lgbt people on a daily basis,” Hrc’s legal director, Sarah Warbelow, told TheWrap in a statement. “The North Carolina Legislature must act to right this wrong as swiftly as possible.” The condemnation came in response to McCrory’s executive order to “clarify” the state’s controversial anti-lgbt law.

Update: As Georgia remained front of mind in Hollywood on Thursday and the Weinsteins threatened to find another state in which to shoot Lee Daniels’ upcoming Richard Pryor film in opposition to an anti-gay bill, the focus has broadened to include North Carolina.
Following an earlier statement calling on Georgia Governor Nathan Deal to dismiss bill Hb 757, Lionsgate said it would be “hard-pressed to continue [its] relationship with North Carolina” unless a new law were repealed.

The North Carolina state Senate voted today to approve a sharply diminished form of the state’s film tax incentives, which would slash funding for the program by two-thirds. The Tar Heel State’s current program, which has been beset by allegations of abuse, expires at the end of the year, and a proposed extension was facing an uphill political battle, with Gov. Pat McCrory calling for deep cuts in the program. On Thursday, the state Senate approved a proposal that would turn the incentives program into a grant program and substantially reduce its state funding, with a $20 million annual budget compared with $60 million last year. Legislators in the state’s House of Representatives, meanwhile, are pushing to extend the incentives as-is for another year. A final deal would have to be worked out by both chambers of the legislature and then signed by the governor. Related: Where Hollywood’s...
