Banijay Takes Full Control Of Beyond And Prepares For Rebrand

Banijay has taken full control of Mythbusters firm Beyond International and intends to rename and rebrand the Australian outfit as the “necessary integration process” kicks off. The circa-30M acquisition was first revealed in October last year, giving the acquisitive French powerhouse control of an 8,000-hour catalog including factual hits such as Highway Thru Hell, Heavy Rescue: 401, Massive Engineering Mistakes, Halifax: Retribution and Deadly Women. The move leaves distributor Banijay Rights, which shops the likes of MasterChef and Big Brother, with a circa-130,000 hour catalog. Today, Banijay took full control and a spokeswoman said the intention is that “[Beyond’s] distribution activities will fall under Banijay Rights’ name.” The acquisition was carried out via a Scheme Implementation Deed which, once implemented, means Beyond ceases to be publicly traded. Sirius is a feature length documentary that follows Dr. Steven Greer – an emergency room doctor turned UFO researcher – as he struggles to disclose top secret information about classified energy & propulsion techniques.

My brain hurts. After watching Sirius, I have been bombarded with more information than I can really cope with in the space (no pun intended) of two hours. What starts off as exposing the hidden secrets in the American government soon turns into Aliens and UFOs visiting Earth and how they can be contacted and recorded through technological and spiritual means. Then we are taken back in time and told about the history of UFO visitations to Earth exploring the fact that ‘they’ might have been visiting us for years. Then we are seeing a body of maybe an alien which has been discovered.

It would be easy enough to write off Sirius as mere catnip for the UFO/conspiracy theory crowd. From its countless images of "flying saucers" streaking the night sky, to its function as an uncritical mouthpiece for featured player and Cseti (Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence) founder Steven Greer, and its intimations of 9/11 trutherism, Amardeep Kaleka's documentary often seems like little more than preaching-to-the-converted, New Age drivel.
