As Oliver’s detective character wrestles with the governess played by...

There’s more time to escape.
The Only Murders in the Building Escape Game — now posted up on the second floor at Westfield Century City inside The Escape Game — has been extended with additional time slots added for Aug. 22-Sept. 10 due to popular demand. A collaboration with Hulu, the Only Murders game had originally been scheduled to wrap up its L.A. run on Aug. 13. Additional options to play include the forthcoming Las Vegas location (Aug. 18-20 at the Forum Shops) as well as online “remote adventures.”
The Escape Game arrives timed to the debut of Only Murder’s third season. Starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, the newest batch of episodes follows the trio once again investigating a murder, this one behind the scenes of a Broadway show created by Short’s Oliver Putnam. It centers on the untimely death of Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), a Hollywood...

This post contains spoilers for "Only Murders in the Building" season 3.
Over the course of his career, Paul Rudd hasn't died a lot onscreen. Comedian Patton Oswalt shot him in the chest in "Reno 911! Miami," Alexander Skarsgard stabbed Rudd's character Cactus Bill in the throat in the low key thriller "Mute" and I suppose you could count the time where one of his future variants is ripped to pieces in the trippiest scene in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." My personal favorite is when Scott Lang becomes a zombie and gets decapitated in the Disney+ animated series "What If ... ?" at the hands of Hank Pym. Apparently, Rudd is just too likable to wind up playing the victim very often.
That all changes in Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as three amateur sleuths who start a true crime...

In its third season, Only Murders in the Building continues to strive to balance the genuine intrigue of a murder mystery with a light satire of true-crime culture and whodunit clichés. The results are consistently amusing but hardly as riveting as other iterations of this subgenre—including Poker Face and the previous two seasons of Only Murders in the Building.
The show’s unlikely trio of amateur sleuths—washed-up TV star Charles Haden Savage (Steve Martin), disgraced Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and rudderless millennial Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez)—had sworn to only investigate murders that take place in their high-end Manhattan apartment complex, but last season’s coda teased a challenge to their agreement: a murder outside the building! The third season picks up in the immediate aftermath of that finale, when megastar actor Ben Gilroy (Paul Rudd) dropped dead in the midst of the premiere of the...

If you’ve heard me rant about this once, you’ve heard me rant about it a thousand times: Emmy categorizations are nonsense. Several of the year’s most nominated dramas — The White Lotus, Succession, Bad Sisters, among others — are, to me, absolutely satires with dramatic undertones. And several of the year’s most nominated comedies — Barry, The Bear, Ted Lasso, among others — are arguably closer to dramas, at least in their more recent seasons.
That’s the thing: Barry and Ted Lasso both decided, as they neared the end of their respective stories, that they were more driven by emotion than punchlines. The Bear didn’t exactly make a shift so much as Emmy voters found the show, with its 30-minute episode runtimes, easier to process as a comedy.

A Strange Loop, the 2022 Tony Award winner for best musical, will close on Broadway on Jan. 15.
The musical, which also took home the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for drama, will end its run after opening on April 26, 2022 and will end up playing 314 performances on Broadway. While it garnered much critical acclaim, the musical, written by Michael R. Jackson, was up against a tough economic environment, in which tourism numbers are still down, and it had the added challenge of attracting audiences to unconventional subject matter for Broadway.
The musical is a meta narrative following a young musical theater writer as he attempts to write a musical. Throughout his writing process, he’s plagued by his own thoughts, fears and dreams (which are brought to life by the ensemble) surrounding his identity as a Black, queer man and aspiring artist.

Spoiler Alert: This article reveals major plot points from the Season 2 finale of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.
Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building concluded its second season on Tuesday with a murder reveal party to rival any other before it—even if there wasn’t cake.
But let’s start at the beginning.
Since Season 2 premiered, there was quite a lot of attention focused on Poppy (Adina Verson), who even this season, was mostly a secondary character. Poppy is Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) assistant who was behind much of Cinda’s success as a true-crime podcaster.
But there was more than meets the eye as it pertains to shy and introverted Poppy, as it were. To begin, Poppy wasn’t even her real name. She was born Becky Butler, a small-town girl from Chickasha, Oklahoma who worked for the local mayor. Becky was treated poorly...

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 2, Episode 8: “Hello Darkness.
“Only Murders in the Building” finds its happy place in happy mediums: the juxtaposition of humor and grief, laughter in between the tears and generational divisions that actually work to bridge disparities.
In its sophomore season’s eighth episode, the show once again plays with opposites, illuminating the central mystery that’s clouding the trio’s lives amid a New York City–wide blackout that’s affected their building. For co-creator, showrunner and executive producer John Hoffman, “Hello, Darkness” paradoxically yet intentionally offers rays of light and clarity — all framed against the backdrop of the stately (if overpriced) Arconia’s gloomy hidden passageways.
“It’s basically their rock bottom when they drop down and they say, ‘We’re lost in our own building,’ and feel at a loss between the three of them,” he told TheWrap.

In the darkness, everything is illuminated.
On Only Murders In the Building Season 2 Episode 8, a blackout engulfs the entire tri-state area.
This episode has it all, folks -- romance, suspense, thrills, a Simon and Garfunkel singalong (complete with yodeling), and a cliffhanger reveal that will lead into the final two episodes.
There’s a thin line between civilization and chaos, and that line is electricity.

Only Murders In The Building Season 1 Episode 8 introduced us to the Arconiacs -- Sam (who narrated), Paulette, Marv, and Grant. In yet another parallel, this episode was narrated by Marv, the oldest of the fans.
Who wants to bet Season 3 Episode 8 will focus on Paulette, played by the delightful but currently underused Tony winner Ali Stroker?
Could there be any weight to Marv's theory about the 6th Avenue Slasher?...

Every so often, a musical arrives on Broadway that fundamentally changes the art form. Just as rarely, a musical will take home the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, which has only happened 10 times in its over century-long history. With “A Strange Loop,” which just bowed on April 26 at the Lyceum Theatre, Broadway once again welcomes the rare musical that does both. Composer and librettist Michael R. Jackson’s Broadway debut has been one of the most anticipated of the entire season, and a very long time in the making. Stephen Bracknell, who directed the musical’s earlier productions, also helms this one.
“A Strange Loop” centers on Usher (Jaquel Spivey), a young, Black, queer aspiring musical theatre composer working on a show called “A Strange Loop,” who ushers Broadway musicals and grapples daily with his nagging thoughts, which take human shape via the show’s ensemble, which includes L Morgan Lee,...

"It was never a specific moment in the show where I said, 'Ouch,' " says Rickey Tripp, an ensemble member in Broadway's "In the Heights." The tendonitis in his hip that forced Tripp to leave the show for a whopping 10 months was a product of repeated stress on weakened muscles.Tripp is among a growing number of professional dancers who accrue injuries due to the physical demands of the job. According to professional dancer Allyson Tucker, the demands of ensemble members, specifically, have increased in part because shows no longer employ separate dancing and singing choruses as in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. Current ensemble members have a lot more stage time, which provides more opportunity for injury. As the environment and schedule of the professional dancer intensifies, the body morphs in potentially damaging ways to attempt to maintain its health. Most recently, an unmanageable amount of injuries...
