Forced to resign as U.S Secretary of Agriculture in 1976 after reports surfaced about a remark he made that was derogatory toward blacks.
His infamous quote was the inspiration for the title of Coming Attractions (1978), which featured a series of mock movie trailers and comedy sketches, including a musical number based on Butz's comment.
Awarded Purdue University's first doctorate in agricultural economics in 1937.
After resigning his cabinet post, was named dean emeritus of Purdue's School of Agriculture.
