The sci-fi horror film M3GAN (watch it Here) was a box office success when it was released last year, earning $181 million at the global box office on a budget of $12 million and spawning a sequel that is set to reach theatres in May of 2025. A lot of people had fun replicating the AI doll’s dance moves on TikTok… but how many people are such big fans of M3GAN that they’d be willing to spend $495 to buy a life-size replica of the doll? The collectible makers at Neca are about to find out, because they have created life-size replicas of M3GAN and are selling them for $494.99. You can check out the product page at This Link. M3GANs will start shipping out by the end of the year.

Instead of trying to replicate the success the first film had in January, Universal Pictures has announced that they’re delaying M3GAN 2.0. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s release has been pushed back four months, to May 16, 2025.

FX is about to enter a new era.
The network is grappling with how to replace a number of its long-running hits including Snowfall, Mayans M.C., What We Do in the Shadows, Reservation Dogs, Archer and Dave.
As such, John Landgraf, chairman of FX Content & FX Productions, is “sweating bullets” as he and his team search for new series to replace these shows.
“There was a time when you had these time slots and something was going in that time slot — it might be good, it might be bad, but it wasn’t going to be a color bar in that time slot,” he told Deadline. “Now if we put things on the air or on streaming that are bad, it tarnishes 20 years of hard work we’ve done to try to create a brand that’s synonymous with quality.”

Anna Drezen, the creator of Freeform’s animated series Praise Petey, has announced on social media that the cable network has canceled the show after one season.
“Sad to say Praise Petey will not be renewed at Freeform,” Drezen shared in an Instagram post. “I cannot believe we got to make this show. Best crew, best cast, top to bottom the dream of my life to make something this funny and unwell that went on actual television.”
The series premiered on Freeform on July 21 of this year and consisted of 10 episodes. Drezen acknowledged the difficulties in attracting viewers to a new show in the summer and during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“I have heard that making a non-ip show during covid that premieres during a double strike in the dead of summer was not ideal for viewership,” the former Saturday Night Live writer added.

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel. M3GAN 2.0 is set to reach theatres on January 17, 2025 – and during an interview with Empire Magazine (with thanks to Collider for sharing the information), producer James Wan said we can expect to see the sequel lean further into exploring concerns about AI.
Based on a story crafted by Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The film has the following synopsis: She’s more than just a toy. She’s part of the family.

With his internet comedy, Alvarez is always ahead of the game, finding ways to...

Naturally, that means a sequel is on the way. Get ready for "M3GAN 2.0."

When released at the cinema earlier this year, M3gan was certainly promoted perfectly. The M3gan ‘dance’ featured in the trailer became a bit of a viral hit, and alongside mainly positive reviews, helped the movie make over $175 million at the box office – a huge profit. Now releasing on digital and Blu-ray is a new unrated version.
The story is pretty basic but that’s all it needs to be. A toy company builds a life-like doll that is sold to be a child’s friend as much as it is their toy. But before it is even officially released on the market, the Beta version of the doll is used by the designer’s niece and it soon starts to take on a life of its own.

Every bit as outrageously entertaining as horror fans would expect from Housebound director Gerard Johnstone, Malignant writer Akela Cooper, and producers James Wan and Jason Blum, M3GAN danced into theaters the first week of January.
With a persuasive marketing campaign led by a buzzy trailer and a strong social media presence, the film performed beyond expectations, grossing $173.4 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. A sequel, M3GAN 2.0, was swiftly put into development for a January 2025 release.
Until then, viewers can now enjoy both the theatrical and unrated cuts of M3GAN on Blu-ray. The release also carries three making-of featurettes: “New Vision of Horror,” “Bringing Life to M3GAN,” and “Getting Hacked.” Despite running a scant 14 minutes in total, they pack in soundbites from a wide array of cast and crew members.

About two months ago, and only twelve days after the sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here) reached theatres, it was announced that the sequel M3GAN 2.0 will be getting a January 17, 2025 theatrical release. Now ComicBook.com has caught up with director Gerard Johnstone to get a status update on the sequel – and during their talk, Johnstone said he’s excited to try to replicate the success of the first film.
Johnstone told ComicBook.com, “All I can say is that I’m here in L.A. and been thinking about it, working on it, and I’m just catching up with them this week to talk about it and do a debrief. It’s really important to do a debrief on the first movie, like a post-game analysis, and look at what worked and how we can do it again. I mean, Jesus Christ, it’s difficult to replicate the success.

Gus Kenworthy makes a cameo in the new film “80 for Brady”, but according to the Olympic skier his appearance in the film was meant to be a lot more memorable that it was.
Speaking with Variety, Kenworth revealed that he filmed a scene in which he makes out with his onscreen boyfriend, played by “M3GAN” actor Brian Jordan Alvarez.
However, that scene never made it into the movie.

In fact, Kenworthy said that he and Alvarez shot several takes of the kiss. “Some of them got raunchy,” Kenworthy said, laughingly adding, “Release the tapes! See if you can get that trending.”
In fact, he added, they even did some improv while filming.
Speaking with Variety, Kenworth revealed that he filmed a scene in which he makes out with his onscreen boyfriend, played by “M3GAN” actor Brian Jordan Alvarez.
However, that scene never made it into the movie.

80 For Brady had plenty of time for stroking the ego of producer/co-star Tom Brady—one of the most acclaimed athletes in the world, and therefore someone who definitely needed the boost—but one thing it apparently did not have time for was a kiss between two gay characters played by M3GAN’s Brian Jordan Alvarez and…...

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
“80 for Brady” has plenty for LGBTQ moviegoers to be excited about. Not only does it star icons Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno and Sally Field as friends who take a trip to see Tom Brady play in the 2017 Super Bowl, but Billy Porter plays a halftime show choreographer in the Paramount Pictures comedy.
Now I’ve learned there was even supposed to be a gay kiss. So what happened? Gus Kenworthy says his cameo in the film originally included him “making out” with his on-screen boyfriend, played by “M3GAN” actor Brian Jordan Alvarez, but the scene didn’t make it into the 98-minute movie. “They said they had to cut it for time, but I think they cut it for Middle America,” the Olympic skier told me at the Gold Meets Golden benefit for Angel City Sports on Feb. 4 in Beverly Hills.

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here) just reached theatres eighteen days ago, and over the course of these eighteen days it has racked up almost 125 million at the global box office – a nice haul for a movie that was made on a budget of 12 million, and enough for Universal to order a sequel that’s set to reach theatres on January 17, 2025. If you haven’t seen M3GAN yet, now you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home to do so. M3GAN has received a digital release, and is now available to watch on VOD! You can rent or purchase it on Amazon Prime Video at This Link.

M3GAN is a science fiction horror movie directed by Gerard Johnstone, starring Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng and Brian Jordan Alvarez. The screenplay is written by Akela Cooper. By Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster Productions.
This movie is produced by James Wan (The Conjuring) which means one thing is for sure: this is a commercial movie. This is a movie full of clichés and common things (we accept this) and at the same time it is an ironic horror film that knows how to combine the iconography of the genrre in a brilliant way in a script that is intelligent even if it is superficially silly.
Storyline
A girl that has just lost her parents receives an Android created with A.I. as a companion. This Android is anything but charming.

If you couldn't already tell, the world has been set ablaze with "M3GAN" fever. Not only has the sophomore effort from "Housebound" director Gerard Johnstone earned nearly 100 million at the box office against a 12 million budget, but has earned plenty of critical acclaim, with /Film's Jeff Ewing calling it "a horror comedy blast" in his review. Whether it was the meme-worthy dance that led the marketing team to glory, or Akela Cooper's smart screenplay, "M3GAN" had all the makings of a hit. On top of having the involvement of James Wan, the Blumhouse flick also featured a pretty spectacular cast with Allison Williams ("Get Out"), Violet McGraw ("Doctor Sleep"), Brian Jordan Alvarez ("The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo"), and Ronny Chieng ("Crazy Rich Asians").

You really can’t go wrong with a killer robot movie, and this one delivers all the requisite robo-thrills. Produced by Blumhouse (another good sign), it’s directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) and features Get Out star Allison Williams in the lead.
The film opens with a snowy car crash, in which 12 year old Cady (Violet McGraw) tragically loses both her parents. She’s sent to live with her tech genius single aunt Gemma (Williams), who’s just putting the finishing touches to her ambitious robo-project, code-named M3GAN (for Model 3 Generative ANdroid). Since M3GAN is designed to be a high-tech toy for children, she needs to be paired with a host in order to learn properly, so Gemma ropes in Cady...

In January, studios typically dump their less-than-stellar movies in theaters, hoping to make a little bit of money back, or to take the tax write-off and move on. When the "M3GAN" trailer dropped, it looked promising, but alarms started ringing after the studio slapped it with a PG-13 rating. Luckily, "M3GAN" is that rare January release that delivers on its premise and then some. It's a crowd-pleasing sci-fi, thriller, and comedy hybrid that leans a little more on laughs than scares, but that's precisely what makes it so much fun.
For all two of you who haven't seen the memes, here's a quick rundown of the plot: A young girl named Cady (Violet McGraw) is left orphaned when her parents die in a car accident. She goes to live with her tech-obsessed aunt, Gemma (Allison Williams), who is unequipped in all parental capacities. Facing intense pressure from her boss and...

In a recent interview, M3GAN (read our review Here) director Gerard Johnstone discussed the reshoots that were done to earn the film a PG-13 rating, saying he felt that the PG-13 scenes were actually more effectively troubling than the R-rated moments they replaced. But in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, screenwriter Akela Cooper (who previous wrote the slasher Malignant for producer James Wan) indicated that she preferred the bloodier, deadlier version of the story – and she’s hoping to see an unrated cut of M3GAN on home video.
When asked how gory her M3GAN script was, Cooper replied, “No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it. There should be an unrated version at some point. … I heard it is on the books. But yes, it was way gorier.

Way back in mid-November, it was said that Universal Pictures was so pleased with the sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here) and the response to the film’s trailer that sequel discussions were already underway. But producer James Wan, who also came up with the story for the film, felt that it was bad luck to talk with the press about a sequel before the first movie was even released. Made on a budget of 12 million, M3GAN just pulled in 45 million at the global box office over its opening weekend – so now Wan is ready to start working toward bringing us M3GAN’s Revenge!
A Deadline report on the film’s opening weekend box office mentions that “a sequel is already in early development.” And a post on Wan’s Facebook page indicates he’s anxious to push it forward: “Thank You to everyone who checked out M3GAN this...

As soon as the first images of killer android doll M3GAN doing a TikTok dance hit social media, the internet had a new horror "it" girl. Blumhouse's latest horror outing "M3GAN" lives up to the hype, with its morbid humor and trenchant commentary on modern technology and the ways we use it (or it uses us). Gemma (Allison Williams) is a lead engineer for toy company Funki, and she's working on a new prototype: M3GAN (Amie Donald and the voice of Jenna Davis), an android designed to become a child's new best friend and the last toy they'll ever need.
When Gemma's sister and brother-in-law die in a car crash, leaving her with custody of her young niece Cady Gemma decides to test M3GAN by pairing her with Cady. Things take a dark turn that Gemma never (but should have) expected, and she...

Bloody Disgusting’s M3GAN review is spoiler-free.
From the moment M3GAN was introduced in trailers and danced her way into the internet’s collective hearts, the high-tech killer doll seemed destined for horror icon status. It helped that M3GAN reunited producer James Wan and screenwriter Akela Cooper, both responsible for 2021’s highly entertaining Malignant, and put Housebound’s Gerard Johnstone at the helm. The horror-comedy does live up to its promise to entertain, but with a heavy emphasis on humor and less on horror.
Top roboticist/developer Gemma (Allison Williams) stresses over a looming toy deadline at her company while secretly working on a passion project in the form of Model 3 Generative Android, which she dubs M3GAN to keep it simple. Then an unexpected accident claims the lives of her sister and brother-in-law, leaving her the sole guardian to young niece Cady (Violet McGraw). Ill-equipped to raise a grieving child,...

Hoping to take the sub-horror killer doll genre to new heights, producers James Wan and Jason Blum have teamed on what they hope to be a modern technology-infused combo somewhere along the lines of Annabelle meets The Terminator. Short of literally doing that, they have cooked up the latest Blumhouse fright picture, M3GAN, which for the most part follows a formula but shakes it up just enough to have strong appeal — especially for the teen-girl audience that gravitates to these PG13-safe kind of movies.
Although it is all entirely predictable, there is some fun entertainment to be had here as the creators including director Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) and writer Akela Cooper working from a story she devised with Wan, have serviced the idea with some very funny ideas that even have the truly creepy title character dancing her way into murder, as well as singing lullabies...

There are many fun games to play during the “M3GAN,” but the best is the most simple: Which one of these weirdo human suckers will this murderous android bump off first? And while the final death tally might be a smidge lower than you might expect from a Blumhouse joint, this film from director Gerard Johnstone can’t help but delight its audience. After all, it was built to do just that.
Johnstone plunges us into the wacky world of “M3GAN” from the jump, opening with a kicky commercial for a wretched Furby knockoff that has enthralled the world’s children. A product of toy company Funki, the furry little monsters connect to the internet, chatter nonstop at their young owners, have teeth (teeth!), and traffic in gags organized around pooping.

Is there anything M3GAN can’t do? At 4 feet tall, she is small but mighty. When you forget to flush or wash your hands, she’ll remind you. She can explain the science behind using a drink coaster and ensure that you always will. At night, she can read you bedtime stories; by day, she can record your memories and preserve them for you forever. She sings, dances and reads emotional states: She is fully equipped to meet you where you are. When you fall, she’ll catch you.

Back in 2021, James Wan’s Malignant was the little parasitic twin that could, latching onto the internet via tweets, gifs and memes. A horror film about a tortured woman hiding an unfathomable secret, it had a midpoint shift in tone so sudden and deliciously gaudy that there was a compulsive need to tell others about it – as if it were lab-grown for the social media age. Its screenwriter, Akela Cooper, is back with M3GAN, with Wan now a producer. The film’s clearly been coiffed and preened to fit the role of Malignant’s spiritual successor, its trailers built around clips of its star, a killer android doll, shimmying and swaying like a dancer on TikTok.
Unleashed into the cinematic wastelands of early January, M3GAN was under real threat of being both overhyped and underwhelming. Studios have a dismal history of completely misunderstanding the internet’s desires But Cooper, who...

There are some horror fans who seem to be upset that the upcoming sci-fi thriller M3GAN – which reaches theatres on January 6th – has been given a PG-13 rating, feeling that the movie would be better if it sported an R. But while speaking with Total Film and Games Radar+, director Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) said he thinks the reshoots they did to make sure the movie would secure a PG-13 actually made scenes more disturbing.
Johnstone said, “Making it PG-13 was something that happened after the fact, but it was always so close to PG-13 anyway. It seemed kind of a mistake not to embrace it. I even remember thinking early on, ‘This could be PG-13, and some of my favorite films like Drag Me to Hell are PG-13.’ So we made the decision to go PG-13 and actually reshot a couple of things.
