Kris Marshall and Annelise Hesme’s relationship can’t generate much heat in this overly tricksy Curtis-lite setup
“Maybe we’re in one of those Japanese horror movies – the ones with creepy empty apartments, corridors and lifts.” So says Kris Marshall’s just-made-redundant record-company worker Tom when he finds himself stuck in an elevator with Annelise Hesme’s Eloise, the French consultant who authorised his firing.
Sadly, rather than being in a horror movie, they’re trapped in a slightly naff British romcom that attempts to weld the beginning/end of the affair structure of Blue Valentine to some Richard Curtis-lite South Bank soppiness. Marshall and Hesme are amiable players, but writer/director Gavin Boyter packs their conversations (which cut back and forth across the years) with too much cliche and contrivance for their putative relationship to gel, let alone sparkle.

Ricky Gervais has confirmed that The Office's David Brent will be heading to the big screen with his own movie, Life on the Road.
So as we anticipate what Brent has been up to since the end of the BBC hit comedy, here's what the cast have done since:
Ricky Gervais
Ricky Gervais played the lead role as David Brent - the embarrassing, toe-curling and cringeworthy boss of company Wernham Hogg, devoid of self-awareness but poised with an unwavering love for the paper merchants he manages.
Gervais went on to create comedy Extras with Stephen Merchant, which was co-produced by the BBC and HBO and aired between 2005 and 2007. Gervais played ambitious actor Andy Millman, afflicted with a useless agent played by Merchant. Guest stars have included Patrick Stewart, Samuel L Jackson, Ben Stiller and Kate Winslet.
In 2009, Gervais starred in, wrote and directed his feature comedy debut The Invention of Lying.

An unfinished film by a master director. A young director convinced he can finish it. This already sounds like a promising story but Nitrate only gets better from here.
Written and directed by Guy Ducker and Gavin Boyter, the film is currently in development so it may still be years away but it’s one that looks and sounds promising. Here’s the official synopsis:
Hotshot young filmmaker George Lewis sets about reconstructing the unfinished final masterpiece of a maverick director murdered back in 1960. As George struggles with an impossible mountain of footage, he and his producer Emily investigate the dark mystery surrounding the director’s murder. A tale of obsession, old lies and history repeating itself.
That alone sounds good but the trailer they’ve put together to raise funding for the film is the clincher, promising murder, mystery and intrigue all rolled into a pseudo-documentary. There are two cuts of the trailer,...
