When the preseason comes, it’s an opportunity for rookies and potential starters to show their skills and a rapport with their offense or defense. It’s in the preseason that starters are separated from the second and third-string players on the depth chart, and can offer a glimpse of what’s to come in the future for their respective teams. Maurice Jones-Drew, a running back for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, has been charged with battery after allegedly punching a security guard at a nightclub over the weekend in Florida.
According to TMZ, Mjd is accused of hitting a security guard in the face, knocking him out. The incident reportedly took place at the restaurant and lounge that are part of Conch House, a popular marina resort in the St. Augustine area.
The police say the punch was intentional, after Mjd's friend was told by security to stop touching a young woman. The buddy allegedly "slapped" a security guard and that's when the fight broke out. The guard reportedly got Mjd's friend in a headlock and that's when Mjd allegedly hit the guard in the face with a closed fist.
The cops say the guard's jaw was "swollen" and when he went to the hospital, doctors found a bone bruise, but no broken bones.

Well it was a great week of action in the NFL, with some blistering individual performances. (Doug Martin, anyone?) But where there is good, there is always bad, and some teams are just not getting any better. This week saw some truly bad performances from many NFL teams, and once again the Nfc showed how much of a stronger conference it is than the Afc. Last week, we had the bottom three teams going like this:
30. Carolina Panthers
31. Kansas City Chiefs
32. Jacksonville Jaguars
Let’s take a look at what, if anything, has changed this time around. Here’s week nine’s bottom of the barrel:
30. Carolina Panthers
They are still firmly entrenched as one of the worst teams in the league. Quarterback Cam Newton has shown very little of the form that saw him have such a good rookie season last year. They still haven’t managed to sort out the running back situation, with both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart not being terribly productive.

As we approach the halfway point of the season, it’s becoming easier to separate the good teams from the bad. It’s been an interesting year in terms of team’s performances however, and we haven’t really seen an awful team – yet. Even the clubs that make it into the bottom three have shown signs that they have the ability to claw their way out.
But, without further ado, let’s take a look at the teams that have found their way into this week’s bottom of the barrel. But before we do that, let’s remind ourselves who Lester had there last week:
30. Tennessee Titans
31. Kansas City Chiefs
32. Jacksonville Jaguars
And here’s this weeks bottom three NFL teams heading into week eight:
30. Carolina Panthers
You would have thought the Panthers could have managed more than one win so far, right? Especially with Cam Newton at quarterback.

How’s this for a little NFL parity; The entire Afc only has two teams with winning records, the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens. The previously unbeaten Texans were destroyed in the nationally televised Sunday Nighter by the Green Bay Packers, and the Ravens just lost the heart and soul of their team, middle linebacker Ray Lewis, to a season ending injury.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride this season with many teams proving NFL experts wrong with confounding performances. Welcome to the Week #3 edition of the NFL Bottom Of The Barrel series, where we rank the three worst teams in the NFL. New York (AP) — Rob Gronkowski, Maurice Jones-Drew, Tyson Chandler and Abby Wambach are among the athletes who will strip down to pose in Espn The Magazine's fourth annual "Body Issue."
Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista, New York Rangers forward Brad Richards and Wnba star Candace Parker will also appear in the July 13 edition.
With the London Games this summer, the list announced Wednesday is heavy with Olympians, including gymnast Danell Leyva, sprinter Carmelita Jeter, decathlete Ashton Eaton and members of the U.S. women's volleyball team.
The magazine's editor in chief, Chad Millman, says they try to pick athletes who "just recently popped."
Gronkowski is a classic example of that. The New England Patriots tight end emerged as one of the NFL's biggest offensive stars this past season — and it doesn't hurt that he has a penchant for appearing shirtless in photos. The magazine had a commitment from him way back last fall.

Indianapolis -- Trying to do his best "Tebowing," Alec Baldwin got a bit of help on stage.
The host of "NFL Honors" on NBC was kneeling down when Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow stepped up and showed Baldwin how it's really done.
"Bless you, Tim," Baldwin responded.
That capped a nearly 10-minute monologue Saturday night on the eve of the Super Bowl as The Associated Press awards for the 2011 season were announced.
Baldwin started by walking into the glittery crowd, handing a football to Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers and asking the AP NFL Most Valuable Player to sign it.
The "30 Rock" star then tossed around the jokes, taking equal shots at the NFL, Madonna and the Kardashians, mostly to big laughs from the likes of Joe Namath, Rex Ryan and Cam Newton. All the while, Baldwin clutched his prized souvenir.
The evening's first presenter, Katy Perry, kept in the spirit.

The third season of FX’s dude-humor fantasy football comedy The League begins with a tribute to one of football’s most iconic contributions to popular culture: the 1985 Chicago Bears’ ill-conceived but thoroughly entertaining rap number, the “Super Bowl Shuffle.” For the season’s inaugural braggin’-rights video, a triumphant Ruxin employs members of his fantasy team—Maurice Jones-Drew (running back, Jacksonville Jaguars, guitar), Brent Grimes (cornerback, Atlanta Falcons, drums) and Sidney Rice (wide receiver, Seattle Seahawks, saxophone)—to perform a tacky but endearing rendition with new, yuppified lyrics like, “He likes fine wine and risotto with truffle / Ruxin’s here to do the Shiva...
