Much like its characters Hadley and Oliver’s relationship, the final shot of Netflix’s “Love at First Sight” — adapted from Jennifer E. Smith’s best-selling novel — came about by chance, but Smith loves the twist on her book’s ending that closes out the film.
Vanessa Caswill directed Katie Lovejoy’s screenplay for “Love at First Sight,” which brings Hadley Sullivan (Hayley Lu Richardson) and Oliver Jones (Ben Hardy) together in a twist of fate when Hadley misses her flight by just four minutes. Luckily for Hadley, who usually runs late with a barely-charged phone, her departure disaster connects her with Oliver, with whom she shares the next flight to London. By the time their plane lands at Heathrow Airport, the pair have fallen in love.
Oliver made sure to give Hadley his number when they had to split up so that she could get through the customs line,...

Any rom-com needs its lead pairing to work perfectly and I think Richardson and Hardy have great chemistry in the film which makes Love at First Sight all the more enjoyable.

Netflix’s movie selection will make this a September to remember. From an abundance of romantic comedies and dramedies arriving on the streamer this month to fun-loving animation that tells heartfelt stories, there is no shortage of stream-worthy content as the colder months approach. While fall technically does not start until Sept. 21, this list may or may not supply some watch suggestions for pumpkin spice season.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight author Jennifer E. Smith has nothing but praise for Love at First Sight, the 2023 Netflix adaptation of her 2011 bestselling novel. The new trailer introduces the two strangers whose meet-cute occurs in an airport. Haley Lu Richardson (White Lotus) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) star as the couple who experience a much more enjoyable flight than most travelers.
Author Smith told Netflix’s Tudum that she’s thrilled with Richardson and Hardy as the leads. “They are such a great Hadley and Oliver. They’re so charming and winning, and they have great chemistry. They just did right by the characters,” said Smith.
Katie Lovejoy adapted Smith’s book and Vanessa Caswill directed. Discussing the author, Caswill noted, “Jennifer was so trusting and generous and not precious in the slightest. […]She wrote me the sweetest email after she finally watched the film. It was so lovely,...

Based on Jennifer E. The pair feel an instant connection, which makes their long overnight flight go by very quickly. The film launches Sept. 15.

Haley Lu Richardson is opening up about auditioning for Marvel and how “overwhelming” it was for The White Lotus star the time she tried to enter the superhero world.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star of The Edge of Seventeen recalled doing a screen test for a Marvel project that she ultimately didn’t end up booking.
“I did do a big screen test for a Marvel character, and there was like real cameras there, and they did our hair, and makeup, and stuff,” she said (via Comic Book). “But they just directed us in what kind of street clothes to wear, like what colors and stuff. We didn’t actually get in a superhero costume.”
Richardson added, “But yeah, it’s just so overwhelming, because you’re just committing to something, and you haven’t even seen a script.”

Television isn’t hurting for lack of angry women right now, but it’s still startling to make direct eye contact with them as one must with “Snatches.” BBC America’s new series of short films — eight in total — honors the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote in England by centering furious, aching, excited, miserable women from various crucial points in the country’s recent history. Entirely written and directed by women, each episode of “Snatches” (an unfortunate double entendre of a title) stars actors like Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”), Antonia Thomas (“The Good Doctor”), and Siobhan Finneran (“Downton Abbey”); each holds their own on a sparse set, giving lengthy monologues directly to camera.
While it makes logistical sense that BBC America aired all eight back-to-back (each installment runs an efficient 12 to 15 minutes long), watching “Snatches” all at once is a jarring, even upsetting experience — but then again, that’s the point.

Angela Lansbury has lost a record 18 races for acting at the Emmy Awards. But the TV academy has a chance to finally right that egregious wrong this year. In the recent TV adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic “Little Women,” Dame Angela shone in the scene-stealing role of Aunt March, the grande dame of the family. Acclaimed character actresses Edna May Oliver, Lucile Watson and Mary Wickes made much of this role in the 1933, 1949 and 1994 film versions as did Oscar winner Greer Garson (“Mrs. Miniver”) in the 1978 telefilm.
The pedigree of this remake of “Little Women” could done much to help Lansbury’s likelihood of winning. It is a BBC/PBS co-production and was presented stateside under the “Masterpiece” umbrella. The adaptation is by Heidi Thomas (“Call The Midwife”) while Vanessa Caswill (Thirteen”) handles the helming.

PBS Masterpiece is teaming up with BBC and Playground to bring us one of the most beloved stories of the last 150 years... Little Women. On Friday, PBS posted the news on their Facebook page. I feel that this story is in the best of hands, as PBS has brought us such great shows and mini-series over the past few years, such as Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Mercy Street, Grantchester, and many others.
Louisa May Alcott's semi-autobiographical novel about growing up in the Civil-War era was a tale of family, first love, poverty, being a working woman in a male-dominated industry, and most of all, it was a story of sisters. The script for the three-part series will be written by Heidi Thomas, who also scripted the acclaimed Call the Midwife. Vanessa Caswill will direct. My Mad Fat Diary star Jodie Comer (represented by Independent Talent) leads the cast in Thirteen, the first new series to come to BBC Three in 2016 since it moved online.
She stars as 26 year old Ivy Moxham who escapes from the cellar that's been her prison for the last thirteen years. Returning home to her family and to her life, this is only the beginning of the story.
Aneurin Barnard (represented by The Artists Partnership) plays Tim Hobson, Ivy’s boyfriend and one of the people helping her rehabilitate herself as she re-enters society.
Thirteen explores how to pick up the threads of a life half-lived and how to survive as a family under the greatest pressure. How to feel again, chance love again. It is a psychological drama about who to trust when you can't even trust yourself. Ivy Moxam is a young girl. Ivy Moxam is a woman.
