Former Talkback and Thames chief Leon Wilson has been named CEO of Banijay UK labels Shine TV and Zeppotron.
This comes after the news current Shine Managing Director Jon Swain is stepping down at the end of the year. Wilson will report to Banijay UK CEO Patrick Holland the he takes up the CEO role at the end of the month.
Shine is known for the BBC’s MasterChef brands, Hunted and Celebrity Hunted and new Channel 4 prison format Banged Up, while Zeppotron makes the long running shows 8 Out of 10 Cats, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Would I Lie to You?.
There are no plans to directly replace Swain at Shine, but Wilson will work with Creative Director Tim Whitwell, MasterChef boss David Ambler and the wider team. At Zeppotron, MDs Ruth Phillips and Peter Holmes will work with Wilson on a push into the streamer market.

Shine TV announced today it was upping Tanya Shaw and Tim Whitwell from creative director and head of programming to managing director and creative director respectively. The moves come in the wake of current managing director Kelly Webb-Lamb to leave the company at the end of the year. Idris Elba is heading out on an international driving tour in two-part documentary King Of Speed. The Shine North/Shine TV production is a look at the origins of the car racing scene. The two hours will air on BBC Two; Elba’s detective series Luther airs on BBC One. Elba will visit racetracks in the U.S., Scotland and Finland among other locales to trace the political, social and historical evolution of racing from prohibition to today. The shows will include elements of Nascar, vintage police chases and Japanese drifting. Among his co-pilots will be Cannonball Run creator Brock Yates. Rick Murray is exec producing with Tim Whitwell; Southan Morris is producing and directing. Production is currently underway, but no airdate has been set.
