Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the symphony hall, Jaws will be unleashed this summer as a live-to-picture experience thanks to Film Concerts Live!. Jaws In Concert will feature Steven Spielberg’s original summer blockbuster with a live orchestra performing John Williams’ iconic score, including a theme so memorable that just humming it in a swimming pool at night is enough to terrify people. According to Billboard, the experience “will have its world premiere at the Boston Pops Orchestra (which Williams famously helmed from 1980-1993) next summer, with Keith Lockhart conducting.”
Unsurprisingly, Jaws has been one of the titles that orchestras have been eager to perform since Film Concerts Live! began doing these live-to-picture experiences, usually of Spielberg-Williams collaborations. (E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and Jurassic Park have all been done previously.) “It’s not only a testament to the power...

Duh-dun, Duh-dun, Duh-dun, duh-dunduh-dunduh-dunduh-dun… Get ready for that terror-inducing sound to fill your local concert hall, along with Bruce on the big screen. Film Concerts Live! has been producing events with a live orchestra performance synced to blockbuster films, and today they announced they’re adding the first-ever blockbuster to their line-up. Jaws is getting the live concert screening treatment. Jaws (which made the Top 10 of HitFix’s Ultimate Horror Poll — see where it ranks here) is of course iconic largely thanks to John Williams’ recognizable score. The 1975 movie’s theme that’s become synonymous with suspense will be performed live by some lucky tuba and string players in orchestras presumably around the world — Film Concerts Live! has brought their events to four continents — though for now, only Boston has been announced for Jaws in Concert. The Boston Pops Orchestra will perform the world premiere of the event in early summer 2017. Previously,...

Last Saturday octogenarian composer John Williams attended a gala tribute concert for his ongoing 80th birthday celebration at the Tanglewood music festival in Massachusetts. Steven Spielberg and James Taylor made surprise stage appearances, and both President Obama and George Lucas delivered video birthday greetings. "I have collaborated with John for half of his life," said Spielberg, who has had Williams score all but one of his 26 features. "He is this nation's greatest composer and one of the greatest friends I've ever had in my life." The Boston Pops orchestra, along with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, soprano Jessye Norman, violinist Gil Shaham, clarinetist Anthony McGill, pianist Gabriela Montero and the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, as well as conductors Keith Lockhart, Leonard Slatkin and Shi-Yeon Sung, all contributed to the program, which featured themes from Williams' most popular film scores, including "E.T.," "Star...

Shaquille O'Neal has conducted a special holiday concert by the famed Boston Pops Orchestra. The Boston Celtics forward made his orchestral debut at the city's famed Symphony Hall on Monday night. The athlete told Espn that he was prompted to accept the one-night-only gig by the Celtics' front office. "[Celtics PR director Heather Walker] asked me if I wanted to conduct the orchestra," he said. "I was like, 'Seriously, like a real orchestra?'" O'Neal's (more)...

The Big Shamroq tells us who holds the higher court in his heart above the Biebs.
The Boston Symphony Hall got a little taller Monday night, when superstar Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra in a rousing rendition of “Sleigh Ride.” HollywoodLife.com spoke to Shaq before the show and asked him how working with symphony director Keith Lockhart compared to working with Justin Bieber. The 38-year-old all-star’s reply stunned us all: “I’m going to put him a notch above Justin Bieber.”
A notch above Biebs? Shaq better watch his back for angry Beliebers, who have proven that they can become aggressive when provoked. Just becuase he doesn’t have an orchestra at his disposal doesn’t mean he can’t sing his heart out!
Keith was also quick to give his own comparison to the Biebster.

Just call him the Big Maestro.
Shaquille O'Neal -- Boston Celtics center, future NBA Hall of Famer, sometime rapper, actor and reality-show star -- added yet another facet to his career on Monday night (Dec. 20) when he conducted the Boston Pops orchestra.
Let's repeat that: Shaq conducted the Boston Pops. For real.
The Diesel led the orchestra for three songs, including the Pops' signature holiday song, "Sleigh Ride." He also was at the podium as the ensemble played the Jackson Five's "Can You Feel It" and Queen's "We Are the Champions." Alas, there was no Pops rendition of Fu-Schnickens' "What's Up Doc," which would have allowed Shaq-Fu to conduct and rap simultaneously.
The somewhat surreal video of the Big Aristotle in white tie and tails (custom-tailored, we're guessing, because Men's Wearhouse doesn't carry many rental tuxes for a 7-foot, 350-pound man) and conducting "Sleigh Ride" is below. The Celtics next play on Wednesday.

Shaquille O'Neal certainly conducts himself with dignity. And he conducts others with dignity as well. The NBA giant set aside the basketball uniform for black tie and tails on Monday night at Boston's Symphony Hall to lead the Boston Pops Orchestra and Tanglewood Festival Chorus through a rousing rendition of "Sleigh Ride." And no, you're not alone in thinking that the baton looks like a toothpick in the 7'1" behemoth's hand. Check out O'Neal's debut as a conductor below. How do you think he did? Let us know in the comments section.

Less then three weeks in and musician Amanda Palmer has had a pretty smashing 2010. On New Year's Eve, she performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra singing Tchaikovsky as well as material from her Brechtian Punk Cabaret group Dresden Dolls and material from her Ben Folds produced solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer? Sometime around New Year's, she was proposed to by her literary rock star boyfriend Neil Gaiman. They officially announced their engagement to their fans on the 15th. Then Palmer and Gaiman made their way to the Golden Globe awards this past week, where Palmer immediately became the most interesting thing at the awards. Summertime. To many people it means that the fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high. To others it means plenty of sun, surf and sand. Yet to another faction of the world's population, summertime means participation in America's favorite pastime: baseball, where peanuts and Crackerjacks reign supreme and the crack of a bat sends shivers of excitement down even the most jaded spine. Keith Lockhart, the conductor of the world renowned Boston Pops Orchestra, falls into the latter category. The handsome maestro is an avid baseball fan and has been since his youth.
