Craig Mazin, co-creator, executive producer, writer and director of HBO smash The Last of Us, says there remains “quite a bit of story to tell” in the video game adaptation. “Our plan is to do it not just for one more season,” he said. “We should be around for a while.”
An hour-long panel about the apocalyptic drama on Sunday at Nab in Las Vegas didn’t offer many teasers about Season 2, other than the status report that it’s still in script stage and the fact it will be shot in British Columbia. Instead, Mazin and four key members of the production team drilled down on the craft elements in the first season, specifically visual effects, cinematography, editing and sound.
As physical effects, prosthetics and visual effects converged, Mazin recalled the debut of the “clickers” in Episode 2 starting “fights” over the question, “Is it real, or is it effects?...

“Poupelle of Chimney Town” begins where “Toy Story 3” ends, with a daring escape from a dangerous garbage incinerator. You see, it’s not always easy to tell the trash from the treasure in Chimney Town, a richly imagined steampunk metropolis where smokestacks crowd the skyline, belching so much thick black haze into the air that an entire generation of soot-covered townspeople has ceased to believe in the stars. The lone exception, a bobble-headed boy named Lubicchi (Antonio Raul Corbo), is always looking up, determined to prove to everyone that there’s something beyond all that “smoky smoke.”
To prove his theory, this pint-sized Galileo’s gonna need help, and he finds it in the form of an unlikely friend, magically brought to life one night from the local landfill — a literal “garbage man” he decides to call Poupelle. This stinky scarecrow-looking character might not seem like the most appealing of companions,...

What a great time to be a grandparent (or so I’m told). There are now plenty of books, games, clothing, and video to encourage girls to be strong and independent. DC Comics offers up their Super Hero Girls line and this week they have released their second animated feature, DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games, a 77-minute romp.
Writer Shea Fontana improves on the first offering with a story set at the Intergalactic Games where Earth’s powered women take on the vile challengers from Korugar Academy. To prepare for the competition Academy teacher Doc Magnus (Phil Lamarr) is building battlebots and supervising Batgirl (Mae Whitman) and Bumblebee (Teala Dunn) as they build their own. Principal Waller (Yvette Nicole Brown) is not amused nor is she happy that Magnus’ bots seem to have free will but were not programmed with any morality, a theme that plays out across the 77-minute fast-paced story.

Gail Simone is an adept writer who brings a unique voice to her projects and when she took over Dynamite’s Red Sonja, it was no different. Her initial foray, Queen of Plagues, saw the she-devil with a sword lead an army as payback for a man who spared her life. Not only did she display a good handle on Sonja but gave us the arresting figure of Dark Annisia, a unique antagonist.
Coupled with fie art from Walter Geovanni, it was a strong story and remain available in trade. For some reason, Shout! Factory chose this story as their next motion comic, out now on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack.
As nice as Geovani’s art is, some of it proved difficult for the limited animation of motion comics and pales in comparison with the more detailed art found in some of Shout!’s Marvel offerings, such as Wolverine: Origins.

First rule of attending a seance: Don't be late. Especially when you're keeping the star of Fox's new summer series Houdini & Doyle—and the spirit of Harry Houdini himself—waiting. Animation producers (and spouses) Allison Abbate and Tony Cervone recently stopped by the Radio Rashy podcast to talk with animation writer/producer Paul Dini and his wife, actress/magician Misty Lee.
A lot of the discussion revolved around Abbate's work on Tim Burton's Frankenweenie feature film but Cervone, who's a supervising producer on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, mentioned the Cartoon Network series.
Cervone said, "There are 11 shows left that will finish the series off at 52 episodes. I'm not sure when they're coming back. I never know when they're coming back. If I had to guess, probably in the summer because it usually airs in the summer. But I can't wait for these last 11 to get out for people to see them because they're crazy."

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.

We've been hearing rumors for awhile that Marvel would be cancelling their awesome animated series Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Today that rumor has been confirmed; the series is gone. It's a shame that this only got two seasons, as it was one of the best animated series on TV. The news was confirmed in a press release by Marvel that also revealed the show would be replaced by another Avengers series called Marvel's Avengers Assemble.
The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013.
The image above was released to promote the new series, which looks like it's going to fall more in line with Joss Whedon's Avengers film. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more Marvel characters introduced in the series though. We should get some more details at this year's Comic-Con.

Disney has released this fun new trailer for Marvel Animation's upcoming series Ultimate Spider-Man. The new promo trailer is actually pretty awesome and gives us sense of how cool this series might be. It's going to have a lot of great action mixed with some crazy humor. This is one of those series I'm going to enjoy watching with my kids. There's a fun little surprise in the trailer showing Spider-Man wearing an Iron Man type suit, while fighting Iron Man.
Ultimate Spider-Man is set to debut on Disney Xd on April 1st, 2012. I really hope you enjoy the trailer below as much as I did. One of the things I like about what I see is how off the wall and different it is. From this trailer, what do you think the show's strengths and weaknesses are?
The series’ creative team includes a few names you might be familiar...

We've got a couple new clips from Marvel's upcoming animated series Ultimate Spider-Man for you to watch. The series is set to air on April 1st on Disney Xd, and it looks like it will be a fun series. I'm actually excited about watching it with my kids. The show is very playful with its audience, and I think that is going to be a main selling point. It's definitely different, and that's why I'm looking forward to it. Does the show interest you?
Below you'll find a couple of clips, a collection of images, and information about the short-form series that will air during Marvel Universe, in-between episodes of Ultimate Spider-Man and The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Even as we speak, fannish folk are gathering together at Dragon*Con, the insanely popular Sf/Fantasy/Horror/Film/Gaming extravaganza. It's almost as well known as ComicCon and has a bit more of a "pure" rep, given that it's organized and run by fans for fans. The Big Boys still show up, but it's focused on Regular Folk instead of the needs of Big Studios.
Guests this year include:
• Tobe Hooper • Eric Basaldua • David Prowse • Edmund Schubert • Paul Dini • Sharon Morgan • Flynn's Folly • Bradley H Sinor • Edward James Olmos • Misty Lee • Jason Yungbluth • Robert Duncan McNeill • Kaza Kingsley • George Romero • Eric Wight • Sean H Shaw
But the operative word is include. There's a huge listing of everyone showing up on the site. And there are all sorts of tracks, interest groupings, to suit damn well near every need, from gaming to How-To.
Best of all? doorQ.com is there.

This review was written for the theatrical release of "December Boys".
"December Boys" bathes in the summer sun and sea breezes even as it exudes the energy of youth and promise. It is set in an affable seaside community in South Australia in the 1960s, in a few homey shacks built within a cove. There is a flavor of nostalgia here, too, as old rock tunes waft through the air. The film's dramatic moments are small but exquisitely rendered so that you feel the emotions experienced so many years ago. The film lingers afterward in your mind like a favorite vacation that triggered moments of sheer intensity.
Based on the Australian coming-of-age novel by Michael Noonan and featuring Daniel Radcliffe in his first major role apart from the Harry Potter character, "December Boys" is a modest though poignant film that touches on timeless themes of love, friendship and family. Radcliffe is the film's calling card; otherwise, it would be difficult for Warner Independent Pictures to create awareness of such a small-scale film. Likewise, Village Roadshow, which handles international sales, must hope that Radcliffe will lead audiences to this satisfying movie experience.
The story, which Marc Rosenberg adapted from Noonan's novel, revolves around four orphan boys born in December who have grown up in a Catholic convent in the Outback. All have reached or are reaching an age when the prospects of adoption are increasingly slim. A Christmas outing to the seaside gives them a welcome respite from school.
The narrator actually is the youngest boy, Misty Lee Cormie, quite good), who is quiet, neat, mature and determined to get adapted. The eldest boy, Maps (Radcliffe), is closing in on 17 and not even certain at that age whether he even wants to be adopted.
Spark (Christian Byers) has a taste for the forbidden. This includes cigarettes and lingerie ads. Aside from the disgusting social habit that gives him his nickname, Spit (James Fraser) loves challenges and feels he is up to each and every one.
The boys stay in a house with an aging couple, Bandy McAnsh (veteran Aussie star Jack Thompson), a retired naval officer who salts his language with nautical terms, and his wife (Kris McQuade), who have a secret motive for inviting the lads to join them.
The boys meet a circus performer and his French wife. Since they can't have children, they seem the perfect couple to adopt. A competition breaks out among the three youngest boys, which puts friendships to a test. Meanwhile, Maps becomes utterly infatuated with a local blonde named Lucy (Teresa Palmer), who both enjoys and encourages his romantic interest.
Misty narrates from deep into the future, so this is a memory piece and, perhaps, memory plays its tricks. Could all of these slender narrative strands have been so neatly resolved? Did that idyllic December really freight so much emotional weight? Does Misty in the future really remember the cove's metaphoric wildlife -- a black horse that wanders the beach and a huge fish named Henry, which has eluded capture by an old fisherman for years. Not to mention a personal appearance by Our Lady to two of the young Catholic boys?
Director Rod Hardy favors sunsets over the ocean and high angle shots of the cove, the sea and the striking topography of this desolate, gorgeous location. It's a neat package save for a curious ending, many years later -- presumably today -- where actors far too old to be those boys in 2007 reassemble on the cove to spread the ashes of the one lad who has died. Didn't anybody do the math?
