'Focus' movie: Will Smith has third weakest weekend box-office debut of his career (photo: Will Smith in 'Focus') According to those referred to in polite society as "conservatives," winter storms and freezing temperatures are evidence that there's no such thing as global warming. Let's not even go there. Instead, let's focus (bad pun intended) on the Focus movie starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie as a con couple, which opened below expectations – with wintery weather as a possible culprit – in North America this weekend, February 27-March 1, 2015. According to box-office tracking, as late as a couple of days ago Warner Bros.' modestly budgeted Focus was expected to take in between $22-24 million. Barring a miracle akin to a sudden halt to rising ocean temperatures (pardon the hyperbole), that's not about to happen. Now, before I proceed: "modestly budgeted"? Well, for a Will Smith movie, $50 million – after...

I read the synopsis of Left Behind aloud to a friend and at more or less the same moment we both said, “…so it’s The Leftovers?” I haven’t even seen that television programme, but knew enough about it that I could recognise personal hero Nic Cage’s latest vehicle to more than slightly recall the set up. For the uninitiated, the film asks what would happen to everyone else if the righteous were suddenly beamed out of our plane of existence, presumably ascended up to heaven. I understand that The Leftovers doesn’t directly address what has happened to those that vanished but in Left Behind we’re given a pretty clear indication that...

So the day has come for you folks to take home Costas Mandylor in the final chapter of the phenomenon that is Saw! Well, at least until the inevitable reboot. Even cooler...if the jolly red-suited fatman brought you a 3D television last month, you can watch this puppy in its gory 3D glory, too.
Another franchise that is buzzing this week is the video game sequel, Dead Space 2. In addition to the game itself, you can also bring home the collector's edition, the album soundtrack, a hardcover game guide, and an animated DVD movie. That should keep you busy for a while.
Oh yeah, there are a couple of other interesting titles with some familiar faces from "True Blood", "Angel", "Buffy", and even "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman".

Whoa, what a way to start the new year! After several weeks of desolate conditions in terms of horror title releases, the floodgate just burst open.
This is the week you may want to think about using up those giftcards and cash you got from returning your holiday presents. Major releases are vying for your greenbacks alongside re-releases in Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D (in case Santa brought you a 3D TV recently), and other more independent titles. In addition to movies, there's also a Buffy motion comic and the next volume of a vampire's diary in paperback.

Mirrors 2 and its 2008 predecessor were pitched, I'm guessing, on the visual hook of one's reflection doing horrible things to itself, which in turn, happen in real life. I admit, looking at the number of reflective surfaces I pass by on a daily basis, it's quite the effective paranoid fantasy to imagine that at any moment one of those reflected images could decide to say, jab a pen in my eye. In fact, fear of mirrors is an actual recognized term--eisoptrophobia.
Unfortunately, neither of the Mirrors films had anything particularly interesting or compelling to say or do with their core haunted mirror premise, living off of their respective "killer on the other side of the mirror" premises, buried under not terribly engaging mysteries. In both films, the murders are the result of some sort of nascent wrath trapped inside the mirror, and the efforts of the troubled leads to confront...

We may have caught a completely nude bathtime Amy Smart in Alexandre Aja's original 'Mirrors', but there was little time for enjoyment as her twisted reflection forced her to tear her own jaw off (Aka the stiffy killer). Now it seems we get to see more boobage in Victor Garcia's direct to DVD follow-up 'Mirrors 2'. The sexy Christy Carlson Romano strips off and looks to be yet another victim to more horrific mirror-esque events this time in her shower. Nick Stahl, William Katt, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Lawrence Turner, Stephanie Honore and Jon Michael Davis all join Romano and her ample assets. Check out the goddamn sweet clip below and be warned that the clip does contain full female nudity, or 'boobs and bum' for the more immature of us. Clip courtesy of Egotastic. Even though director Alexandre Aja's 2008 horror movie, Mirrors, was brutalized by critics and didn't quite earn back its $35 million production budget at the domestic box office, it took in an additional $46 million internationally, which was apparently enough to warrant a sequel, albeit a direct-to-dvd sequel. Based on the concepts first developed in the 2003 Korean movie Into the Mirror, Mirrors 2 was directed by Victor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill) and stars Nick Stahl, William Katt, Emmanuelle Vaugier, and Stephanie Honore.

Mirrors 2 Concept PosterThe plotline for Mirrors 2 is almost identical to the first with a nightwatchman guarding the remains of the Mayflower Department Store. Thankfully, some subplots have been introduced, as this latest watchman, played by Nick Stahl (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), is attempting to recover from a tragic accident, which left his wife dead, by returning to the work force (Uhm). Except, a haunted department store is not a great place for recovery. This sequel will to straight to DVD October 19th, 2010 and this latest in the series was directed by Victor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill). Have a watch of the first trailer for Mirrors 2, courtesy of Dread Central.

Boggy Creek is definitely not a remake of 1972, as Julin (Spirit Camp) tells 28Dla.com, but an original feature that is the first to show the Caddaja. The Caddaja is an ancient creature from the ancient Caddo culture, that likes human flesh. Julin, who appears as Kay O'Brien in the feature, also states that the film was shot in the north-east of Texas near Louisiana. Lots of swamps here. Also, director Brian T. Jaynes sums up the plot of the film succintly: "it's a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas" and "we painted our own version of Sasquatch." The Bigfoot could really use a revamp. So, check out some of these pictures of Julin, the set, and her co-star Cory Hart as Dustin O'Brien.

Yah, you heard us right! We said “Mirrors 2″. As in, a sequel to the Keifer Sutherland horror movie “Mirrors” directed by Alexandre Aja that came out in 2008 and squatted a big fat goose egg. The lack of a box office punch ain’t gonna stop the powers that be, though....
Mirrors 2 will be a direct to DVD sequel to 2008’s Mirrors which starred Keifer Sutherland.
We hear the scribes are on set during certain gore/kill scenes so it sounds like this sequel is being cared for and looked after in stead of most sequel rush jobs we get, who knows maybe this one will be better than it’s predecessor! God we hope so.
Synopsis:
“When Max (Stahl), a recovering addict, takes a job as a night-time security guard job at his father’s department store, he begins to see visions of a young woman in the store’s mirrors.

We've been following the progress of two new swamp monster movies in the works, and today we can bring you new news on both. More plot details have emerged on the Boggy Creek non-remake. The first image giving us a good look at swamp thing on the prowl in Brett Piper's Muckman is now available for gawking at. Put on your galoshes; things are about to get swampy.
It seems almost strange that more and more information about this Boggy Creek flick is coming via local newspapers in the areas where the film is shooting rather than Internet horror websites. That truly is the mark of an old school indie film production. Another surefire sign is when you're actually filming in a town named Uncertain.
Last month I reported on news courtesy of a Texarkana newspaper, and this month our Boggy Creek news comes via the Marshall News Messenger.

Is it a remake or not? That seems to be the question surrounding Boggy Creek , a low budget creature feature by Brian T. Jaynes. Principal photography has commenced on the film which stars Texas Battle ( Wrong Turn 2 ), Melissa Carnell, Stephanie Honore, Damon Lipari and Shavon Kirksey. Early reports stated it was a redo of the '72 The Legend of Boggy Creek by Charles B. Pierce. But Jaynes says it's only similar in themes. "It's a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas," he tells the Marshall News Messenger from the set in Uncertain, Texas. "They end up crossing paths with an ancient evil creature that lives in the swamp." He adds that this is his own version of Sasquatch that's...

Since all the characters from the previous “Final Destination” movies seem to know about a group of other kids that survived similar events based on a premonition by someone in the group, you’d think they would also know that those guys eventually all died at the end, and not bother to try to cheat Death themselves. I mean, what, did they stop reading the stories halfway through or something? If Death was after me, I’d invest in a little time to read to the very end, but that’s just me, I’m thorough that way, especially with Death on my ass. Two new “The Final Destination” TV spots below. After a teen’s premonition of a deadly race-car crash helps saves the lives of his peers, Death sets out to collect those who evaded their end. Starring Krista Allen, Nick Zano, Mykelti Williamson, Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo,...

If ever a scandalous situation was born to live again in a Lifetime movie, it was the one that occurred last year in McKinney, Tex., after a bunch of nasty, spoiled cheerleaders who ran their school like the SS (spoiled sexpots) caused so much terror that it became a national story.
How much do I love the idea of cheerleaders gone bad, who beat up other cheerleaders? Who knew there even was such a thing as marauding, run-amok, scary cheerleaders to begin with? It's all so - what? - so Texan of them.
Lifetime's wonderfully titled "Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal,...
