- In 2005 while working on the film "Homo Erectus" directed by Adam Rifken, (Detroit Rock City, Look) Darryl was struck in the face with the end of a spear during a malfunctioned battle scene by an extra. The wound was so bad it scraped to the bone 1-inch from his left eye. Luckily no scars can now be detected.
- Promoted to a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the KBK/A.M.I.D. System in July 2008. Also holds a 1st Degree Black Belt in Bushido Kempo.
- On January 13, 2010, he founded International Pictures DKP, his production company. It is no longer in operation.
- In 2001 was ranked 2nd in the Nation on the Martial Arts Circuit. Continually ranked in the top five in the state of Texas from 1998 till 2005 on the Texas Sport Karate circuit.
- He entered foster care at the age of 11 and stayed until be was 18.
- Attends Abundant Life Church in Brownwood, Texas when he visits his hometown.

- Has 2 sisters. Chimene Jasmin Lewis, 18 of Cleaveland, Texas. The second is Tisha Phipps who died back in 1993.

- In April 2011 Phipps was promoted to his 4th degree black belt. He received his hall of fame induction ring.
- Inducted into the Universal Martial Arts Hall Of Fame (UMAHoF) The 2nd largest martial arts hall of fame in the world, July, 2008.
- 2009 graduate of the William Esper Studio professional acting training school specializing in the Misner Technique.
- He is a former leader for Models for Christ in New York City.
- On October 23, 2012 Phipps created his own production and entertainment company Option A Entertainment.
- Was promoted Godan, 5th Degree Black Belt in 2012. He is now a Master rank in the Martial Arts. His official title is Master Darryl K. Phipps.
- Started working on the web television show Sentinel-The Web Series in August 2012. He is the creator, producer and the star of the 13 episode show.
- On August 3rd, 2013, Darryl was inducted into the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame for the 2nd time. Darryl was a special guest at the event as well. Darryl was appointed as the New York State Hall of Fame Representative. Meaning Darryl can nominate other martial artist for the hall of fame.
- Currently attending the William Esper professional acting school (June 2008)
- In Brownwood Texas, working on the "Untitled Kellen Wilson Project" Pre-Production, ultra-low Budget Independent Film. Has one of the leading roles in this film. Filming is projected to start July 13th 2007 (April 2007)
