Tim Burton has directed several instant classics throughout his 54-year career in Hollywood. One of them, 1988's Beetlejuice, received a sequel last year, and it's now streaming on Netflix.

The streamer has announced that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now available to watch on its platform. Released in 2024, the long-awaited sequel to Beetlejuice picks up roughly 30 years after the events of the original movie, with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara reprising their roles as Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz, and Delia Deetz, respectively. They are joined by Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Justin Theroux as Rory, Monica Bellucci as Delores, and Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, among others.

Warner Bros. Studio heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca teased Monday that the early cut they have seen of James Gunn’s “Superman” relaunch assured them that the franchise is in good hands and is worth the wait.

Interviewing together on the “SmartLess” podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes on Monday’s episode, the longtime studio executives said that Gunn — previously of Marvel fame with “The Guardians of the Galaxy” trio of films — “really understood the assignment” when it came to relaunching a “new version of DC” and its most iconic character.

WeAreMovieGeeks.com attended the TCM Film Festival in Hollywood over the weekend and as usual, it did not disappoint! The theme of this year’s festival was Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds On Film and it was chock full of all the sci-fi, fantasy, and film-noir selections anyone could ask for!

The TCM Classic Film Festival opened April 24th with a 45th Anniversary screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at the Tcl Chinese Theater followed by a conversation with filmmaker George Lucas.

Superman The Movie (1978)

First up was Superman the Movie, from 1978. Starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder, this is long considered the penultimate Superman movie. And there have been a few since, but none compare with this masterpiece. In attendance to present the film was Michael DeLuca, Co-Chair and CEO of Warner Bros.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners beats all odds to become a huge success in theaters, earning great reviews from critics. This blood-sucking vampire drama was different from the conventional storytelling in the genre. Out of all things that worked for the film, the chemistry between Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld was a crucial element.

However, you wouldn’t view the romance the same after some disturbing stories from the film set. According to a TikToker who worked on the film, the scene where Steinfeld’s character spits into Jordan’s character’s mouth was shot without any CGI. Even worse, the TikToker revealed that there were multiple takes for the scene.

In a surprise upset, the movie beat fellow Warners blockbuster A Minecraft Movie and topped the chart with an estimated $45.6 million from 3,308 theaters, including Imax screens, well ahead of an expected $40 million. James Gunn has been putting in serious work to revamp the DC Universe, and the results are finally speaking for themselves. Losing Cavill as Superman left a Krypton-sized hole in their hearts, and they weren’t shy about letting Warner Bros. know it.

Michael Giacchino's remake of Them! just got an infusion of star power behind the scenes. Matt Reeves, the director of the 2022 superhero blockbuster The Batman, is producing the giant creature feature for Warner Bros. De Luca and Abdy discussed a number of upcoming projects exploiting WB's massive IP library, including a new The Matrix film with Drew Goddard, a reimagining of The Bodyguard, and new Goonies and Gremlins projects from Chris Columbus. Reeves is a high-profile star in WB's stable, and is no stranger to giant creatures: he directed Cloverfieldin 2008, which saw a giant monster rampage through NewYork City. The film made $411 million worldwide, and Warner Bros. has even tried to remake the property before, including most recently in 2011.

Using a couple flops and risky upcoming films as fodder, several reports with scant backup say their Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav is scouring for replacement candidates (which he denies in a tepid manner). Despite the rough press, De Luca and Abdy will actually spend this weekend same as their counterparts at other studios do: trying to keep an eye on kids while they read scripts, watch dailies and dream up slates for 2026 and beyond.

The overheated reports quieted after A Minecraft Movie did way better than anyone imagined, and quickly joined another surprise blockbuster, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, as top-priority sequels to go with other IP revivals from The Matrix to Practical Magic, Gremlins and Goonies.

Warner Bros. Pictures Group studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy took a victory lap after the stunning record opening for “A Minecraft Movie” this weekend, telling staffers in a companywide memo Monday, “This is truly a world-class achievement!”

The pair claimed victory on behalf of the studio for the record-smashing video game adaptation – which earned nearly $315 million at the worldwide box office in its first outing – a movie co-produced with Legendary Entertainment.

The box office blues have been banished in historic fashion.

Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie, made with help from Legendary Pictures, struck gold with a record-shattering $163 million opening domestically and $150.7 million overseas for a global start of $313.2 million, according to final weekend numbers. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has begun taking early-stage talks with potential successors about possibly replacing WB studio heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, according to a Sunday report from Bloomberg.

The outlet noted these discussions have been informal, but they come after Warner Bros. has recently suffered a string of box office failures like “Alto Knights,” “Mickey 17” and “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the latter of which grossed just $200 million after the first “Joker” crossed $1 billion and suffered poor reviews. Still, WB also seen recent success with other movies such as “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which grossed over $450 million last fall.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is meeting with potential candidates to replace film bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, according to a report by Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the matter.

The talks, Bloomberg says, are “at an early and informal stage” with a final decision about De Luca and Abdy’s fate at the company having not yet been made.

Still, Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson Robert Gibbs told Bloomberg that “the rumor of an imminent leadership change at the studio is not accurate.”

Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” which has been deemed his most “commercial” project yet, reunites him with Warner Bros. As it gears up for a busy year of tentpole releases, Warner Bros.’ film division has hired an Amazon MGM Studios executive as its chief business officer.

Ted Lim, who most recently served as head of global strategy and business development at MGM, will join Warner Bros. in a newly created role this week, Motion Picture Group co-chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy wrote in a memo to staff on Tuesday.

Lim joined MGM in 2018 from Participant Media, where he served as senior vp strategy and business development, working on investments and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, the exec was part of the corporate strategy and business development team for Disney.

On Jan. 7, Warner Bros. worldwide marketing chief Josh Goldstine was called into the office of his bosses, studio chiefs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, at the end of the day to find out that he was being let go after four years at the company. His three year-contract was renewed in early 2024, so Goldstine’s dismissal came as a surprise to many on the Burbank lot, given that he played a key role in promoting successes that range from “The Batman” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” to “Barbie” and “Wonka.” Goldstine’s firing was publicized the following day, at the height of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, which some found to be in poor taste, though knowledgable individuals chalked up the timing to an unfortunate coincidence.

There’s an adage in Hollywood: When a movie flops, blame marketing.

So this executive shuffle is unusual because Warner Bros. had enjoyed a decent 2024 in terms of ticket sales.

Warner Bros. Pictures and MRC’s “Wuthering Heights” from acclaimed filmmaker Emerald Fennell will be released on Feb. 13, 2026, the studio announced on Friday.

The adaptation will star Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Additional cast includes Hong Chau, Alison Oliver and Shazad Latif.

The box office performance of Joker 2, or Joker: Folie A Deux to its friends, is hardly on the catastrophic side, but it’s also very clearly a sizeable disappointment for Warner Bros.

The original film was made for a modest sum of around $60m and went on to gross over $1bn. The sequel has cost more than three times the original to make, and looks set to top out at around $400m once its box office run is complete. The opening weekend in the US of some $37m came in below expectations, even if international box office held up okay.

But the worst one of all was Todd Phillips’ misguided belief that marrying the maniacal Batman villain who revels in chaos, carves up his face for laughs, and kills people as an afterthought with La La Land would be a good idea. Joker 2 does not work as a fantasy derivative of some rom-com musical. The film only works if it remembers what, or rather who, it is marketing – the Joker.

The first film, made on a $60 million budget, earned $1.1 billion by the end of its theatrical run. The sequel, with a budget of $200 million, now ranks lower than Madame Web (which was laughable at best) and struggles to cross the $100 million ceiling,...
