Austin, TX – July 9, 2021 – Mondo Music, in conjunction with Hollywood Records, is proud to present the premiere vinyl pressing of Lorne Balfe’s score to the highly anticipated Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, available for pre-order at MondoShop.com on Friday, July 9.
Lorne Balfe’s first MCU score is a force to be reckoned with. He’s no stranger to crafting propulsive music for espionage epics (just listen to his masterful score to “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”) and his take on “Black Widow” is no exception. Balfe blends Russian choirs and soloists, with delicate and haunting piano and acoustic guitar; swirling strings with his trademark layered percussion. Balfe is incredibly elastic, delivering a beautiful score for this long-awaited chapter in Natasha Romanov’s story.
Pressed on 2x 180 Gram colored vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve, kick-start Phase Four with the latest in our ongoing celebration of the music of the MCU.

Of all the films I saw at Cannes last year, the one that I couldn't stop talking up, and yet at the same time didn’t want to say too much about, was a little British thriller which I caught in a small screening room in the market. I’d already seen Ben Wheatley’s previous film, Down Terrace—a film rightly summarized as Mike-Leigh-meets-The-Sopranos—and liked it a lot, so I was expecting his unique blend of kitchen sink dialogue-driven comedy and genre shenanigans. But that didn’t prepare me for Kill List, a film that does start in a kitchen, if I remember rightly—with a young couple arguing about paying bills—and ends deep in the heart of darkness. Do yourself a favor and don’t read anything more about this film (apart from this spoiler-free article of course) and just see it. Unless you’re very squeamish,...

What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly thing that collects things about movies, television and other things. Lots of things in store for you tonight, including some more Dark Knight Rises things… We begin tonight with an image of Ben Affleck as a real life former CIA agent from the early 1980s in Argo. In a way that can only be from the 1980s, he also looks like a Die Hard villain. So much mulleted intensity. Today’s top story is from Hero Complex, who has published a revealing piece about Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. It’s potentially a bit spoilery, depending on your definition, but it’s also another reminder of the grim Gotham Christopher Nolan seems hell bent on blowing up block by block. “At some point I would love to play Einstein. I would love to play him at some place, some...

2011 has been something of a banner year for Mondo. It brought the first work from legendary artists Drew Struzan [1] and Shepard Fairey [2], the advent [3] and expansion [4] of the Mondo Mystery Movie [5], inclusion into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences [6], licenses for DC Comics [7], Studio Ghibli [8], Pixar [9], Jurassic Park [10] and much more. Now, they've decided to end this incredible year the same way it began [11] - with Dracula. Martin Ansin continues the Universal Monsters series Friday with his interpretation of the 1931 film Dracula, a film which was previously designed [12] by Vania Zouravliov and Aaron Horkey way back in January but didn't have the vampire himself on the poster. But that's not all. In addition to a variant, there's an even more limited piece that's done on wood, shaped like a coffin. It's insane. Oh, and a new Tom Whalen Disney piece called Two-Gun Mickey will also be released for counter programming.

Here's a wonderful piece of poster art for the classic Halloween special It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. The poster was created by artist Tom Whalen for a website called Dark Hall Mansion, where it's availbale for purchase. I love this TV special, I've been watching it every year during Halloween since I was a kid.
Here's what the artist had to say about creating the piece:
The best part about working on the “Great Pumpkin” poster was being able to go back and re-connect with the original animation. Not having seen it in quite some time, it was refreshing (and reassuring) to find that this true classic still holds every bit of the charm, quirkiness and warmth that I remember it having when I was a kid.

Artist Tom Whalen has created this great Dumbo poster design for Mondo Tees' Disney Collection. The poster will go on sale today Friday, September 9th at a random time. Here's a note from the artist on working on the poster,
the coolest part of these assignments is being able to re-connect with the classic source material. after hunting down a copy of the DVD through amazon (it's currently in the disney vault), i was amazed at how well this 70-year-old (!) film holds up. it still looks fantastic, carries a huge emotional punch and dazzles with the groundbreaking "pink elephants on parade" sequence. (woah.)

Mondo has done a series for Star Wars, they're still releasing posters for Star Trek, they have several different Director's Series running and just yesterday they announced [1] they'll be doing a series for Jurassic Park. Yesterday saw the release of the first in a new series of posters from the amazing collectible art arm Mondo that would spread some much deserved love to Jurassic Park, one of Steven Spielberg's greatest films to date. But Mondo isn't done bringing the thunder, as they announced today, via Twitter, they are also starting a series paying tribute to Pixar, the company behind some of the greatest animated films ever made. Kicking off the new series is an adorable print for Monsters Inc. featuring the unlikely trio of one-eyed Mike Wazowski, hairy James P. "Sulley" Sullivan and the unknowingly mischievous little girl Boo. This poster is absolutely fantastic on every level, and it just gets me excited to see what Mondo will release for films like Toy Story or The Incredibles, my personal favorite of all the Pixar films. Former Sound On Sight contributor Bryan White of Cinema Suicide has been doing great things since he left us. While he is missed, it is nice to see how much progress he has made with his own website. He’s recently collaborated with artist, Tom Whalen to design some killer T-shirts for his site. 100% of the money received from sales of these shirts will then be turned around and donated to The Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. If you are not familiar with Tom Whalen, he’s done a tremendous amount of great work, and has been featured on Boing Boing for a series of great Star Wars posters he did and even got into the Mondo Tees scene with a couple of posters commemorating screenings of Paul and Steamboat Willie.

Here's a new cool poster for Jason Eisener's "Hobo With A Shotgun". Jeff Proctor's 24x36 poster for "Hobo With A Shotgun" was created as part of Alamo Drafthouse Mondo's SXSW poster collection. The Jason Eisener-directed "Hobo With A Shotgun" is part of the SXSW Midnighters series at the festival and follows a Hobo (played by the awesome Rutger Hauer) who finds himself in an urban hell. When he witnesses a brutal robbery, he realizes the only way to deliver justice is with a shotgun. Additional posters that have been released in the SXSW poster collection include a "Director's Series" for Duncan Jones with "Source Code" and "Moon", by artist Olly Moss, and a poster for "Paul", by artist Tom Whalen. Gallery 1988 has just revealed their final of the six awesome posters made for PaleyFest 2011. This one, for the hit Fox show Glee by Tom Whalen, rounds out a broad spectrum of shows that were graced with fantastic limited edition posters. And while Glee normally isn't something we cover here on the site, as a poster collecting completest, anxiety would have set in if we only posted five of the six posters created for the series. All of these posters - including Eastbound and Down, Parks and Recreations and more -are on sale on the Gallery 1988 website [1]. Currently, all except Glee are on there, as their panel isn't until the 16th. See the full image and link to the rest of the posters after the break. Here's Tom Whalen's take on Glee. Buy it online on March 17. [2] Click here to see the posters [3] for The Walking Dead (which will be...

If you watch a lot of television, chances are you've heard of PaleyFest. And if not, here's the scoop. Each year, PaleyFest is an event where some of the biggest shows on television assemble their casts and creative teams for in-depth discussions about the past, present and future of their shows. For 2011, shows like The Walking Dead, True Blood, Eastbound and Down, Community, Supernatural and others are all scheduled to participate and they're even hosting a Judd Apatow TV reunion with nearly the full casts of Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared together on one night. Plus, this year Gallery 1988 (which you know because they do the awesome [1] pop culture [2] related [3] art shows [4] that we regularly feature) has commissioned several artists to do limited edition screen prints for some of the events. Daniel Danger did a frightening take on The Walking Dead, Dkng Studios gets to the essence of True Blood...

South by Southwest begins next week in Austin, Texas and besides incredible music and awesome films, the festival also has great art. Not only do they host a Flatstock [1], which is basically screenprint Comic Con, it's in Mondo's hometown, so they get in on the festivities. They've commissioned a whole bunch of posters exclusively for SXSW screenings and today we're got the first batch (with more coming next week). There's one for the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost sci-fi comedy Paul, by Tom Whalen [2], and a pair based on the mind-bending work of Duncan Jones, Source Code and Moon, by fan favorite Olly Moss [3]. The latter two also qualify as the next entry in Mondo's Director's Series [4], which previously featured Guillermo del Toro. Check out all of the posters, read a quote from Jones and more about after the break. The two Olly Moss Director's Series posters are courtesy of...

It’s great to see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s new film Paul doing so well at home, hitting the UK number one spot last week.
March the 13th sees the Premiere of Greg Mottola’s film at SXSW in Austin, Texas and it’s a fitting hurrah for a film with its roots steeped in geekery. Artist Tom Whalen has turned out this stunning poster, only a handful of which will be available at the event this month.
We enjoyed Paul and we’re hoping to see it do well across the pond, despite some reservations of the theological scraps which crop up as part of the film, but hell’s balls to that – go, see and enjoy.

We're still a couple weeks away from the March 18th release of Greg Mottola's sci-fi comedy Paul starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost but five days earlier the movie will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. We've already seen a couple posters for the film too, but now collectible poster shop Mondo has unveiled a poster by Tom Whalen made for the SXSW premiere, only available for purchase at the festival itself. Artist Tom Whalen has just created a pretty awesome poster for The Terminator. You can check out a ton of his artwork at his website. Here is what he had to say about this specificity piece:
“When i heard that the colonial theatre would be screening The Terminator in April as part of their first Friday Fright Night Series , I knew i had to do attack it… it’s one of my favourite movies of all time!”
Meanwhile artist Chris Thornley @ Design You Trust: designed this beauty for Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets. Chris wrote:
“The Final Cult movie posters created for local cinema alt film night.” See the entire set design by Chris Thornley at his official website.

[1] I wasn't planning to write about Gallery1988's first annual "Is This Thing On" art show as it really has little connection to movies or television (or so I thought... the above piece featuring Judd Apatow mashed-up with the infamous Star Trek Tribbles episode is a fine example of this). The show, co-sponsored by FunnyOrDie, features over 100 artists, each creating pieces that are portraits of their favorite funny people, both beloved comics of yesteryear and emerging superstars. The line up of comedians depicted include: Chris Farley, Will Ferrel, Richard Pryor, Don Rickles, Paul Reubens,Tim & Eric, Nick Kroll, Demetri Martin, Chris Rock, Whitney Cummings, Jon Lovitz, Sam Kinison, Bill Murray, Woody Allen, Colin Quinn, Bill Hicks, Howard Stern, Judd Apatow, Chris Hardwick, Marc Maron, Scott Auckerman, David Spade, Andy Dick, Lenny Bruce, Adam Sandler, Amy Sedaris, Lisa Lampanelli, David Cross, Andy Kaufman, Christopher Guest, Mr. Show, Rob Corddry and Children's Hospital,...
