‘Doctor Who: 11th Doctor Vol. 1 – After Life’ Review
Written by Al Ewing, Rob Williams | Art by Simon Fraser, Boo Cook | Colorists: Gary Caldwell, Hi-Fi | Published by Titan Comics | Format: Hc, 128pp

With a force of personality capable of bending time itself and all the energy of a star’s exploding heart, the Doctor blasts into the hollow, tragic life of a woman with so much to offer – and gives her the chance to scream ‘Geronimo!’ at the thrills, colours and terrors of an infinite universe! It all starts with an alien dog terrorising London and from there they blast off into the stars with all new adventures from the Eleventh Doctor and his new companion.

So here’s my review of the Eleventh Doctor Volume 1. Reviews are cool. At least, that’s what I like to tell myself in the mirror each morning. Doing reviews for Doctor Who comics is also very cool, especially when it is a...

Titan's two Doctor Who #1s - "Doctor Who at its best"
As an ageless, time-travelling alien, you have plenty of, well, time to fit all sorts of adventures and mischief in. And obviously it isn't only us who thought this, as next week Titan Comics is launching not one but two Doctor Who comics.

Peter Capaldi might be taking command of the Tardis on the small screen, but that does not mean that the stories of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor have ended. Titan has gathered an impressive lineup of comics talent to bring us the continuing adventures of David Tennant and Matt Smith's incarnations of the Time Lord.

Writer Nick Abadzis (Hugo Tate), artist Elena Casagrande (Suicide Risk) and colourist Arianna Florean are working on Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor, which sees the Tardis arrive in New York ahead of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations.

While the Doctor has just lost Donna, he finds himself on...

[Comic Execution] 1/3 – ‘Revelations’, ‘Twilight Zone’, ‘Grindhouse’
It’s 2014! Have you made your resolutions for the new year? Well good for you!

You’re doomed to failure, naturally, but by all means, commence your futile efforts. I will savor your anagnorisis in the same way an ophiocordyceps unilateralis organism relishes the very exquisite climax in which its spores burst forth from the parasitic structure growing inside of and possessing the host ant.

My New Year’s Resolution for 2014? I’m So glad you asked. I plan on executing more comics! Sure, I won’t make any friends with this resolution, but who needs friends when you’ve got the promise of countless tears shed in the name of my brutal and razor sharp critical analysises! Wait… is it analysi? Analysae? Now I’m just being anal.

Man City vs Wigan – Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups
Media Image Ltd

The last time Manchester City met Wigan was last season’s Fa Cup final where Ben Watson’s last-minute header was enough to earn the Latics their first major piece of silverware. The two sides now meet each other in the Capital One Cup third round and here I will preview the game and look at team news, likely starting line-ups as well as giving my prediction for the outcome of the match.

Man City

City will come into tonight’s game full of confidence after their 4-1 drubbing of local rivals Manchester United at the weekend.

Two goals from Sergio Aguero as well as strikes from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri gave new manager Manuel Pellegrini his first derby success although his side have certainly showed signs of inconsistency throughout the early stages of the season.

Along with the win against United, City also enjoyed a...

England vs Scotland – Match Preview
Wayne Rooney is a surprise inclusion in the England squad for their clash with “The Auld Enemy” on Wednesday night.

The want-away United striker has played a mere 45 minutes in pre-season, and major questions will be asked whether a player with so little game time should have been included.

Aside from “Wazza”, it’s a vital preparation game for Roy Hodgson ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. He’ll also have a chance to blood 31-year-old striker Rickie Lambert, the Southampton star who scored 15 Premier League goals last season is yet to be capped for England.

Scotland, under new manager Gordon Strachan, have been going well of late, winning 1-0 in Croatia courtesy of a Robert Snodgrass strike. It’ll be a chance for the former Liverpool manager to try out certain players, with international debuts expected for Brighton and Hove Albion’s defender Gordon Greer and Dundee...

Man Utd vs Wigan: Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups
Venue: Wembley Stadium Date: Sunday, August 11 K/o: 14:00 BST

Manchester United take on Wigan at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the Community Shield.

Team News

Manchester United are likely to be without Wayne Rooney for Sunday’s Premier League curtain-raiser against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield.

The 27-year-old has missed the majority of the champion’s pre-season campaign and did not feature in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial against Sevilla on Friday.

Javier Hernandez is expected to take his place, while new signing Wilfried Zaha will likely get a run-out.

Defender Jonny Evans and winger Nani are expected to miss out after limping off against Aik Solna on Tuesday, while midfielder Darren Fletcher is continuing his recovery from a serious bowel condition.

Wigan could hand a debut to new signing James McClean, who has become the Latic’s 10th summer signing after joining from Sunderland.

However, fellow new signing...

Scotland vs Wales: Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups
Home Nations rivals Scotland and Wales will face-off tomorrow at Hampden Park, with both sides needing a win to keep any hope alive of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The two bottom sides in Group A met last October at the Millenium Stadium with Wales emerging victorious thanks to a Gareth Bale double. James Morrison had earlier scored for the Scots and Steven Fletcher had a goal disallowed but like much of Craig Levein’s tenure as Scotland manager luck was not on their side.

Chris Coleman also has not endured the best of times as a national team manager. However, he picked up his second win as Wales manager in February when Austria were beaten 2-1. This gives them some momentum going into this match. Scotland also have a new sense of optimism with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan now at the helm and he will be...

Emily S. Whitten: Simon Fraser and Seven Years of Act-i-vate!
While I was in NYC a couple of weekends ago, I ended up at a Gowanus Studios party out in Brooklyn (as you do), chatting with my friend Reilly Brown and some other excellent comics folks. In the middle of all this (all this being pizza and wine, la-di-la, because I’m too fancy for beer), I learned about Act-i-vate, which some of you may have heard of, but I sure hadn’t. That’s one of the things I love about comics – even if you’ve been a fan for years, or know quite a bit about it, there’s always so much going on that you’re never going to reach the end of learning new stuff about comics – the art and the industry. (And also, if you’re me at least, the genre being so large means you don’t have to feel like a bad fan...

Chelsea vs Wigan: Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups
Venue: Stamford Bridge Date: Saturday 9th February Kick-Off: 3pm Team News

Chelsea are without captain John Terry who is suffering inflammation of his knee, while John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses are at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, and long-term absentee Oriol Romeu remains sidelined. David Luiz is back after a calf injury, and Eden Hazard is back after serving his ball-boy-kicking ban, while goalkeeper Petr Cech should be available after making his recovery with no flare ups.

Demba Ba is expected to wear a protective face mask to shield the broken nose he got off the end of Fabricio Coloccini’s boot last weekend. He’ll probably be on the bench though.

For Wigan, captain Gary Caldwell is rated at about 50-50 to be fit after pulling out of Scotland’s midweek friendly with a recurrence of a hip problem, and Antolin Alcaraz, Emmerson Boyce and Piscu are all still injured.

Wigan vs Arsenal – Live on Sky Sports 3
Arsenal take on Wigan Athletic in Saturday’s early afternoon Barclays Premier League clash of the day. Kick-off at the Dw Stadium is at 12.45pm and the match will be screened live on Sky Sports 3Hd on UK television.

Here’s the team news ahead of the game…

The Gunners have no fresh injury problems going into the game having come through their Monday night victory at Reading unscathed. Contract rebel Theo Walcott could once again be utilised in a central forward position ahead of Olivier Giroud, after the Englishman caused Reading’s defence much panic in the 5-2 drubbing, for which Walcott got on the score sheet.

Left-back Andre Santos (stomach muscle) and midfield anchor Abou Diaby (thigh) remain sidelined through injury.

For Wigan, former Arsenal player Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) remains on the long-term injury list, along with Albert Crusat (knee). Ben Watson’s broken leg keeps him out,...

Newcastle 3-0 Wigan – 6 Things We Learnt
Newcastle United stopped the rot last night with a comfortable 3-0 win over 10 man Wigan Athletic at St James’ Park. Demba Ba delivered a brace, whilst Gael Bigiramana allayed any doubt with a 20-yard stunner 5 minutes from time.

Wigan were reduced to 10 men with a harsh penalty decision in 13th minute which saw Maynor Figueroa use his strength too excessively in the box and promptly receive his marching orders from referee Mike Jones. Ba converted from the spot. Before Wigan manager Roberto Martinez could react Davide Santon had cut inside following a strong run down the left wing and fired a stinging shot which Ali Al-Habsi palmed into Demba Ba’s path who cooly slotted homet. Although the Latic’s started the 2nd half strongly, it was a relatively comfortable 3 points for United with the away team failing to manufacture any clear-cut chances.

It was only Newcastle’s 2nd clean sheet of season and,...
