A New O.J. Movie Stars the Controversial Charlotte Kirk (But Definitely Not Owen Wilson)
Hey, Hollywood, anybody interested in a partially finished film about how O.J. Simpson might have been innocent? One that stars Charlotte Kirk — the English actress best known for her previous role in taking down moguls Kevin Tsujihara and Ron Meyer in a 2019 sex scandal — as Nicole Brown Simpson? If yes, this is your lucky day. According to British director Joshua Newton, about 30 minutes of The Juice (originally titled Nicole and O.J.) is in the can, mostly flashback scenes featuring Kirk and German-born actor Boris Kodjoe, currently on ABC’s Station 19, who plays the late NFL star turned acquitted murderer. Newton, who has been working on this “satirical thriller” since 2015, says the picture’s main plotline involves a real-life attorney named Douglas McCann who got sucked into various conspiracy theories during Simpson’s 1995 criminal trial.

After Dennis Quaid accepted CinemaCon’s cinema icon award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, host Kevin Frazier surprised the veteran actor with a birthday cake as the crowd inside the Colosseum sang “Happy Birthday.”
Quaid turned 70 on Tuesday, and it was a fitting celebration for the star, who was feeling particularly reflective about where he’s at in his life and career at this chapter. “I’m on my sixth decade in this wonderful business,” Quaid said in accepting the honor, which arrives as he has The Long Game in theaters this weekend and the release of Reagan on the horizon. “To tell you the truth, I really do feel like I have more fun. I enjoy it now more than when I was young and hungry — not trying to get anywhere. I do it because I love it and that makes me kind of the luckiest guy on Earth,...

Conor McGregor vs. Dwayne Johnson: Who Cashed the Bigger Check?
Did Conor McGregor really set a world record with his Road House payday? That’s what the onetime UFC superstar has been bragging about in recent weeks, claiming he’s now “the highest paid first-time actor of all time.” If true — and McGregor, 35, hasn’t disclosed how much he got for his debut role in Amazon’s reboot of the 1989 kickboxing flick — he would beat Dwayne Johnson’s record of $5.5 million for 2002’s Scorpion King. While some have scoffed at his claim, sources indicate he was indeed paid in that ballpark, and given the Irishman’s stature in the martial arts world and the offers he has turned down (he accepted a role opposite Vin Diesel in 2017’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, only to back out before filming began) it wouldn’t be surprising if some sort of record was broken.

Anyone who tuned into CBS hoping to see Ghosts this evening was certainly disappointed. The sitcom, which focuses on a couple who inherited a haunted New York estate and the spirits that roam the grounds, was replaced with college basketball this week. The March Madness tournament tipped off on March 21. So, exactly how long will the break last? The bad news is that the series won’t be back next week. The good news is that the break isn’t too long.
‘Ghosts’ will return to CBS on April 4
Ghosts and several other beloved series have been bumped from the TV lineup this evening. The March 21 TV schedule on CBS is focused on March Madness instead of the must-see sitcoms that the network is famous for.

Fans won’t be getting a new episode on March 28, either.

Sunday’s Oscar telecast delivered a rare moment in the sun for some of Hollywood’s most unsung heroes: Personal publicists. And while TV viewers might’ve wondered why they got so much love, those in the audience at the 2024 Oscars might argue the shine was due to a classic case of reverse psychology.
At precisely 4 p.m. inside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, David Alan Grier took to the stage with a microphone in hand to make pre-show announcements. “Good evening and welcome ladies and gentlemen to the 96th Academy Awards,” said the veteran star with a clock ticking over his shoulder on the big-screen with less than three minutes and 40 seconds before showtime. “Y’all are going to be hearing from me for the rest of the night, but for the next minute, enjoy seeing me. Feast your eyes upon my body. I’m a real zaddy.”

The 2024 Oscars returned to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. The awards ceremony began with an emotional win for Da’Vine Joy Randolph and ended with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer taking home the top prize, as well as six other awards. But there was plenty going on off-camera as well. From Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence hugging backstage to how John Cena went from practically naked to donning a toga, here are some of the things the cameras missed during the 96th annual Academy Awards.
Snack Boxes for All
As per usual, Jimmy Kimmel brought his A-game to his Oscar-hosting gig — and some snacks. This year, the late night host provided snack boxes that included Shappy Pretzels and mustard, Mike & Ike’s, water and a note from the host that, “to keep the karma flowing,” they would be providing a donation to St. Joseph Center.

Arguably the biggest surprise at the 2024 Oscars occurred when Poor Things‘ Emma Stone won best actress over Killers of the Flower Moon‘s Lily Gladstone. While both delivered lauded performances and had won precursor awards during a close race this season, Gladstone was many high-profile Oscar pundits’ pick for most likely to win, having notably taken the SAG Award for best actress. However, Stone did win the BAFTA award for best actress; Gladstone wasn’t nominated.
Still, Gladstone is far from the first actor to lose the Oscar despite winning the SAG Award, a list that includes Denzel Washington (Fences), Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation), Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) and Viola Davis twice (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and The Help).
After Gladstone’s loss, Killers director Martin Scorsese was spotted consoling his star and giving her a big hug.

While Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 2024 Oscars, his fourth time as the emcee, the late-night host made sure to continue a ceremony tradition: Provide snacks.
Ahead of the ceremony, A-list stars and others in attendance were greeted with snack boxes placed under each seat inside the Dolby Theatre. Inside the boxes were Shappy Pretzel and mustard, Mike & Ike’s candy, Open Water and a note from the host that read, “To keep the karma flowing, we made donations on your behalf to St. Joseph Center.”
As he did with the 2023 Oscars, Kimmel enlisted help once again from actor Adam Shapiro’s Shappy Pretzel Co. (The host is known to be a longtime fan of the soft pretzels.)

John Cena may have not run across the 2024 Oscars stage nude Sunday, but he certainly did awkwardly walk to present the award for best costume design.
Jimmy Kimmel initially kicked off the bit by asking, “Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?” The host was referencing when Robert Opel infamously streaked during the 46th Academy Awards in 1974.
Cena proceeded to pop his head out from backstage to inform Kimmel, “I changed my mind. I don’t want to do the streaker bit anymore. … You should feel ashamed right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea.”
“It’s supposed to be funny,” Kimmel responded before Cena quipped, “The male body is not a joke.” But the host added, “Mine is.”
As Kimmel continued to push Cena to streak across the stage, he reminded the WWE star, “You wrestle naked. Why not?...

Most times, the Oscars broadcast goes off without a hitch. But other times, things happen that leave people talking about it for years — or even decades — to come. While surprises have been happening since before the Oscars were even broadcast — much less before the boom of social media — The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at the biggest viral moments from the last 10 years. Hollywood won’t forget about the streaker or Jennifer Lawrence tripping up the stairs, but those moments happened before 2014.

U2 wrapped the inaugural residency at Las Vegas’ $2.3 billion technical and visual marvel Sphere this weekend, closing out a 40-show run that started in September. Fittingly, the legendary band did so by bringing things full circle.
The shows commemorated one of U2’s most successful records, the chart-topping 1991 release Achtung Baby, played in its entirety with selected tracks from other U2 efforts over the years. To further honor the album, U2 bandmates Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Bram van den Berg (sitting in during the residency for an ailing Larry Mullen Jr.) welcomed Achtung Baby producer Daniel Lanois to the stage Saturday night to play guitar and sing backup on the track “One.”
“There would be no Achtung Baby without Daniel Lanois,” Bono said in welcoming him up the back stairs with a request to the audience. “Show him your light,” and they did by holding up smartphone flashbulbs in a beautiful scene.

Film Independent posted up on Santa Monica Beach on Sunday to present its annual Spirit Awards, the biggest party for the independent film scene. In the early moments of Bryant’s debut, nominees Greta Lee (Past Lives) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) were seen entering the tent and hustling their way to their respective tables as two of the last stars to get seated. It was a good thing, too, as Bryant then zeroed in on Lee in particular during her faux-roasting jokes. “Greta, you are a slob and...

The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were filled with memorable moments, from humorous to heartfelt ones. From Meryl Streep crashing into a microphone onstage to Billie Eilish autographing Melissa McCarthy’s face and Lily Gladstone making history with her best actress in a film win, here are some of the most memorable moments from the 2024 SAG Awards on Saturday night.

Killer Mike is still on a victory lap following a clean sweep at the recent Grammy Awards, and on Monday that tour placed him on a panel at The View.
The rapper, 48, said he was “overwhelmed” after winning three awards during the pre-Grammys telecast, including trophies for best rap song, performance and album. Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Santiago Render, then encouraged viewers to keep their dreams alive.
“You have to keep whatever 9-year-old, 12-year-old, 15-year-old that is in your head, keep that child alive,” he said. “No matter what you see in the mirror, you’re still that child and your imagination has to be bigger than the room, bigger than the building, bigger than the sky because if you keep your imagination alive, everything is possible. When you limit your imagination, nothing becomes as possible as it could be.”

Rapper Killer Mike was detained at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, less than an hour before the 2024 Grammys were set to begin.
Earlier Sunday afternoon, the rapper won big in the rap category during the premiere ceremony, scoring the awards for best rap song and best rap performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” and best rap album for Michael.
An arena security official initially told The Hollywood Reporter that Killer Mike was detained for a reason (unknown at this point) that had nothing to do with Grammy Awards.
“At around 4 p.m., an individual was detained at [Crypto.com Arena] for a physical altercation,” a LAPD spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “The individual is currently being questioned. I cannot confirm the identity of the individual until the person is charged. The investigation is ongoing.”
The rapper was seen in handcuffs being taken into a security room inside the L.A. arena, near the VIP entrance.

Killer Mike was detained at the 66th Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles Sunday afternoon, shortly after winning three of the four rap categories in the pre-show telecast about two hours earlier.
An LAPD source tells Rolling Stone that Michael Santiago Render (Killer Mike’s real name) was handcuffed and detained after an alleged “physical altercation” inside the arena involving a third party. “Somebody complains, obviously we have to do something about it,” the source said. Render was questioned and later booked for misdemeanor battery, according to the LAPD.

What is the Sundance Film Festival outside of Park City?
Sundance Institute CEO Joanna Vicente has addressed the possibility of a move for the Sundance Film Festival out of Park City, where it has taken place since the early ’80s.
Vicente was the surprise guest at the live-taping of Puck founding partner Matt Belloni‘s Ringer podcast The Town. During the wide-ranging conversation that touched on everything from the Netflix acquisition of Fair Play to the five-year plan for the festival, Belloni asked Vicente about the state of negotiations for staying in Park City.
“Park City is part of Sundance,” Vicente answered. “It’s a beautiful location. It’s kind of remote. We get immersed into the festival.” At that point, Belloni interjected to say, “I feel a but coming,” adding that in his conversations with Uber drivers, restaurant employees and ski industry insiders, “They don’t like Sundance.”

The Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night hosted the world premiere of Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man starring Sebastian Stan, Adam Pearson and The Worst Person in the World breakout Renate Reinsve in her first American film.
Stan toplines the A24 release as an aspiring actor, Edward, who undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But a new face turns into a nightmare when it causes him to lose a dream role he was born to play when the playwright/object of his affections, Reinsve, replaces him with someone who looks nearly identical to his former self, Pearson, a man with a disfigured face.
As for Pearson, he lives with neurofibromatosis (type 1), a rare genetic condition that causes excess body tissue to grow predominantly on his face. The condition fuels the plot of A Different Man and the actor, Pearson, actually inspired the film after having...

Melissa Barrera and Indya Moore were among the several husband protestors in support of Palestine chanting “Free Palestine” and “stop the genocide” at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Traffic on Main Street in Park City came to a complete halt on a busy Sunday afternoon during the Sundance Film Festival as several hundred pro-Palestinian protesters — among them actors Melissa Barrera and Indya Moore — packed the sidewalk to chant “free Palestine” and “stop the genocide.”
Calls for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War and protests surrounding the conflict have seen participation from those in the entertainment industry since the outset of the conflict.

Julia Fox didn’t have much to say during the post-premiere Q&a of Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story Presence on Friday night, but the brief comments that came out of her mouth got a ton of laughs inside the Library Center Theatre — and maybe a few raised eyebrows.
After the credits rolled well past 11 p.m., moderator and Sundance director Eugene Hernandez asked the cast for their reactions to seeing the film for the first time. Standing in front of the big screen and joined by cast mates Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday and West Mulholland, Fox took the microphone as it was passed down the line.
“Traumatized,” she said in offering a one-word reaction while wearing a black sequined dress, leather gloves and a black hoodie with the word “Mom” on the chest. “I hadn’t even read the script, to be honest. But when Steven calls,...

Last October, White House hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a decision to switch parties in his presidential bid by exiting the Democratic party and running as a third-party Independent. The move was quickly denounced by members of his own family, including Oscar-nominated documentarian Rory Kennedy, who joined her siblings in posting a family statement.
“The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country. Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment. Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country,” read the Instagram post signed by Rory Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Joseph P. There’s a scene in the Paul Reubens-starrer Pee-wee’s Big Adventure that finds its titular character setting off on a vagabond adventure. He hops aboard a train to sit side-by-side with a grizzled, toothless man known as Hobo Jack, and they sing camp songs until Pee-Wee suddenly sours on the moment. The disgust radiates from his face and he makes a rash decision to jump off the moving train and tumble into the dirt below. The scene lasts all of 53 seconds.

Eva Maria Daniels, the Icelandic producer and film festival favorite behind such recent indie dramas as What Maisie Knew, Hold the Dark and Joe Bell, has died. She was 43.
Daniels died June 30 in London after a battle with cancer, her friend and publicist Jessie Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter. She was diagnosed in March 2020 with a type of Stage 3 cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes, but she declared herself cancer free in an interview with THR‘s Chris Gardner a year later.
“Eva died on the same terms as she lived,” director Börkur Sigthorsson wrote on Facebook. “She played her cards close to her chest. She didn’t seek recognition when she had success. She didn’t seek pity when she suffered. I will miss her friendship greatly, but mostly I will miss seeing what she would have done next.”
Daniels most recently executive produced the Sydney Sweeney-starring Reality.

The Cannes Film Festival got in the zone of auteur Jonathan Glazer on Friday evening, hosting the world premiere of his anticipated new film The Zone of Interest.
The competition title, set and shot in Auschwitz, tells the story of a Nazi commandant and his wife striving to create a dream life for their family in a house and garden just outside the camp’s walls. It is loosely adapted from the Martin Amis novel of the same name. Toni Erdmann breakout Sandra Hüller stars opposite Christian Friedel, Ralph Herforth, Max Beck, Lilli Falk, Marie Rosa Tietjen, Stephanie Petrowitz and Sascha Maaz.
After the credits rolled, the audience responded with a six-minute standing ovation. Glazer took the microphone and offered brief comments, saying, “I’m really overwhelmed by this. Of course, it’s a dream. To be part of this, to be part of you, means everything.” The audience then continued applauding for another minute.

Indy’s back — and in tears.
The time finally came for the Cannes Film Festival to host an old friend — a swashbuckling archaeologist named Indiana Jones — courtesy of the world premiere of James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Held Thursday evening at the Palais, the screening saw the filmmaker joined by beloved franchise star Harrison Ford alongside co-stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge (in Schiaparelli Haute Couture), Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore (in custom Ami), Shaunette Renee Wilson and Mads Mikkelsen.
And after every last credit rolled for the Lucasfilm and Disney blockbuster, the black-tie audience responded by dialing up a rousing standing ovation to five minutes, a strong showing for the out-of-competition title on what turned out to be a very emotional night for its franchise star.
Ahead of the screening, festival director Thierry Fremaux surprised the audience by taking the stage and presenting a highlight reel of Ford’s legendary career.

The film to garner the most attention yesterday was Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s 31-minute short, “Strange Way of Life,” starring Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke as two cowboys who might be considering taking their friendship to the next level. In looking at the social media reactions and reviews that cropped up in the immediate aftermath of those who saw it next year’s Oscars may have a front-runner for Best Short Film.
Speaking previously on the Dua Lipa podcast, the filmmaker stated that “it’s a queer Western, in the sense...

One of the more intriguing selections at this year’s Cannes Film Festival — a 30-minute gay Western short film from beloved Spanish auteur Pedro Almodóvar, presented by French fashion house Saint Laurent and starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal — finally had its world premiere.
Almodóvar, for one, was pleased as punch to see a capacity crowd seated inside the Théâtre Claude Debussy on a rain-soaked Wednesday afternoon to take in his Strange Way of Life.
“This is the best place to be in the world now, at least for me,” Almodovar said during brief remarks ahead of the screening. “You are the first audience that is going to see my new movie. You will be the first reaction. We are nervous and very excited at the same time.”
Almodóvar’s emotions are understandable considering he’s a Cannes legend who served as president of the jury in 2017 in addition to...

“I love what I do. I love what I do so, so much.”
So said Zendaya as she received a Star of the Year Award in Las Vegas on Thursday night inside Caesars Palace, host of CinemaCon’s Big Screen Achievement Awards. The starry event closed out the four-day gathering put on by the National Association of Theater Owners, and she dedicated part of her comments to them.
“I’m so grateful for all of you because without all of you, what I do wouldn’t have a home or place to go,” said the 26-year-old star who will give audiences a place to go this year in Denis Villeneuve’s epic sequel Dune: Part Two and Luca Guadagnino’s The Challengers. “I think my gift is storytelling. That’s what I love to do, and it means nothing if those stories don’t get to the people they need to get to.

Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet realized love and romance in a futuristic universe is a little different from Earth.
The Euphoria star told Vanity Fair, in an interview published online Thursday, while filming Dune: Part Two with Chalamet, “It was funny trying to figure out in this futuristic space talk, like, how do they flirt?”
She said it was difficult at first trying to navigate the relationship between a space warrior and the young duke of a planet. Zendaya added that it was actually “funny because all of us were stumped. I think it’s just as foreign to us as it probably is to the characters.”
In the end, they ended up accepting the “awkward and uncomfortable” nature of it all. “I was like, Does Chani get awkward?” the Spider-Man: Homecoming actress said. “Does that happen to her? Does she know what that feels like?”

Larry David is pretty ready to say goodbye to TV’s Larry David.
Curb Your Enthusiasm is likely to end with the already announced 12th season, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The forthcoming season, which does not yet have a premiere date, wrapped filming this week and the final episode felt like a homecoming, per a source.
Jon Hayman, writer and producer on Curb, shared in a since-deleted tweet a photo of himself with David and executive producer Jeff Schaffer filming what he called the final episode. He wrote, “Maybe you love the show. Maybe you hate the show. Maybe you don’t give a shit. In any event, shooting the last scene of the last episode of the final season.”
Curb co-star Richard Lewis also tweeted about filming his last-ever scene of the series. “There I was a few hours ago in my trailer on location to shoot my...

Sharon Stone Says She Lost “Half My Money to This Banking Thing,” Breaks Down in Tears During Speech
Sharon Stone prepared some remarks to offer in return for receiving the Courage Award on Thursday night during the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s (Wcrf) An Unforgettable Evening fundraiser. But she didn’t seem to need any help in delivering a speech that, at times, had her in tears and ended with a standing ovation.
“I brought a couple of notes tonight,” said Stone from the podium inside the Four Seasons’ Beverly Wilshire ballroom. “I usually just speak off the cuff because, as you well know, I don’t give a shit.”
The line drew lots of laughter from a crowd that included Rebel Wilson, Nia Vardalos, Rachel Zoe, Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin, Julianne Hough, Chord Overstreet, Maria Bello and Dominique Crenn, Kathy and Rick Hilton, Lori Loughlin, Olivia Jade Giannulli, Paul Wesley and NJ Falk. Rockers Maroon 5 closed the show with a set of their biggest hits...

The 2023 Oscars returned to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. The Oscars telecast may have featured Everything Everywhere All at Once taking home the top prize, as well as six other awards, but the cameras didn’t catch everything. From Ke Huy Quan’s emotional reunions to Lady Gaga’s heart of gold, here are some of the things the cameras missed during the 95th annual awards show.
You Get a Box, You Get a Box, Everybody Gets a Box
Jimmy Kimmel provided attendees at the 2023 Oscars with snack boxes under their seats that were topped with a caricature of a bearded Kimmel holding an Oscar and included Adam Shapiro’s Shappy Pretzels, a box of Sour Patch Kids or Milk Duds, an eco-conscious aluminum bottle of Open Water and a handwritten note from the host himself. “Isn’t this a nice surprise?...
