Summer Camp is a comedy about three childhood friends who attempt to reconnect at a summer camp reunion. It also features a great cast, including the talented Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton, and Alfre Woodard playing the trio of friends. While the film does win some laughs, and the third act is noticeably better than the first two, Summer Camp won't be for everyone.

It is a sad state of affairs in Hollywood when you can have such talented actors as Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, but the best you can do is stick them in boomer-baiting forgettable comedic contrivances like Summer Camp, the latest in a long line of movies for Keaton, who also is a producer on it, in which she is cast with female peers of similar age to mix slapschtick with attempted pathos and senior romance. It is the kind of formula you can sell with a simple pitch: Take three beloved septuagenarian Oscar winning and nominated stars and send them back to the summer camp where they bonded as kids. Hilarity and hijinks ensue, along with giving each a later-in-life regret or dead husband to add a bit of drama to the proceedings. Bingo! The mid-week matinees will be sellouts!

If Hollywood aims to bring older audiences back to theaters by making movies about them, I submit Summer Camp as a case study in what works (Eugene Levy!) and what definitely does not — painfully flat attempts at wackiness being the chief offender. Veering between strained slapstick and thoughtful tête-à-têtes, this boomer-focused reunion comedy strands a game cast of accomplished septuagenarians in a mostly laugh-free zone of zip lines and predictable beats.

Director Castille Landon’s screenplay offers some well-crafted dialogue, but it never adds up to anything resembling momentum. Landon, whose previous features include the Katherine Heigl starrer Fear of Rain and a couple of entries in the After series of romance movies, does get the setting right in a story that brings together three lifelong friends at the sleepaway camp where they first met. The friends are played by Diane Keaton (who also serves as a producer), Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard.

It happens to many of us above a certain age. You wake up one day, and realize that your life involves neither your childhood besties, nor the carefree bliss you once took for granted. With that in mind, Castille Landon’s wearisome comedy “Summer Camp” ponders, what if there was a way to awaken our inner child and reestablish our priorities later in life through some fun and play? It’s surely a worthy enough premise for a good time, but one “Summer Camp” squanders through dull jokes, an uninspiring story without any real stakes and an overall phony feeling that the film can’t shake.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin is having a serious case of writer's block. In an exclusive scene from "After Everything," his character, Hardin, is pressured by his publisher to release his second book after receiving a sizable cash advance.

"You have a tiny window of relevance and it's dwindling every day," the publisher tells him, to which Hardin quips, "Can't rush greatness, can you?"

"I can when I've given you a quarter-million dollar advance," she responds.

"After Everything" is the fifth and final installment in the After franchise. Directed by Castille Landon, the film finds Hardin and Tessa (Josephine Langford) living separate lives following the release of Hardin's revealing book, which Tessa knew nothing about. While summer camp settings have long become synonymous with nightmarish tales of camping gone wrong, Summer Camp will be sticking to the fun side of camping with a relatable story at its center.

After Ever Happy, the fourth installment of the popular After romance/drama franchise, will gross circa 1.1 million since its release last Wednesday on 1,085 screens. From Fathom Events, this was the top film in the domestic marketplace Sept. 7-8 for a two-day run before dipping to 200+ screens this weekend. Vertical Entertainment will pick up the film’s U.S. theatrical starting September 16.

After Ever Happy opened in Canada Aug 26 (non-Fathom), grossing an estimated 695,000 to date — for a total 1.8 million cume in North America.

This weekend open is a 22 bump over 2021’s After We Fell, the third film based on the ‘After’ book series by Anna Todd and driven by a fan base that calls themselves the Afternators. The first two installments were After (2019) and After We Collided (2020). The fifth film, After Everything, just wrapped production with release date Tbd.

Spoken English evolved such useful phrases as “blah blah blah” and “yada yada yada” so that in conversation we don’t have to suffer through numbingly repetitive descriptions of the perfectly obvious. Sadly, no such shorthand exists in the “After” universe, which, now on its fourth instalment, seems dedicated to spinning the already vanishingly wispy romance between good-girl Tessa and bad-boy Hardin, YA fiction’s most colossally boring golden couple, into ever thinner straw. After a placeholder second film (“After We Collided”) and a wheel-spinning third (“After We Fell”), the new episode — which itself ramps up to a face-palming “to be continued” — can’t even charitably be said to be blah. If you're not ready to say goodbye to Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford) just yet, don't worry, you won't have to - well beyond "After Ever Happy"'s upcoming release. Tiffin just revealed in an August Instagram video that a fifth film is coming. Fans had previously thought the fourth film, out Sept. 7, was Tiffin and Langford's final contributions to the saga.

Said Tiffin, "We have just wrapped filming on the fifth after movie. I can't tell you too much about it yet but I can tell you that it will be called 'After Everything,' and I cannot wait for you all to see it."

Voltage Pictures has debuted a new trailer for the conclusive ending to the ‘After’ series of films, ‘After Ever Happy.’

The movie finds Tessa and Hardin at a crossroads: Does Tessa continue trying to save him and their relationship, or is it time to save herself? While Hardin remains in London after his mother’s wedding and sinks deeper into darkness, Tessa returns to Seattle and endures a tragedy. If they want their love to survive, they’ll need to work on themselves first. But will their paths lead them back to each other?

Exclusive: Arrow and The Hobbit actor Manu Bennett is joining Kiana Madeira (Trinkets), Ross Butler (13 Reasons Why) and Matthew Noszka (Star) in YA movie Perfect Addiction.

Filming is due to get underway in Poland on Monday.

Written by Stephanie Sanditz (The High Life) and to be directed by Castille Landon (Fear of Rain), the story centers on successful boxing trainer Sienna Lane, who discovers that her boyfriend Jax, the reigning champion, has been cheating on her with her own sister. She sets out to get revenge by training the one man capable of dethroning him: his arch-nemesis Kayden. Bennett will play Julian, the Mma coach to Kiana Madeira’s Sienna.

Exclusive: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina alum Chance Perdomo is set as a lead in Prime Video’s college-set spinoff of The Boys. He will play a young superhero alongside previously announced Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Reina Hardesty and Maddie Phillips.
