Few contemporary directors have a style as instantly recognizable as Wes Anderson’s. While his films have spanned locations ranging from Japan to pre-war Central Europe to 1960s New England, his style of production design is equal parts twee pop and French New Wave, with healthy doses of vintage upholstery thrown in for good measure. His is an attention to detail giving design lovers plenty to obsess over.
Anderson has a love for symmetry, geometric patterns, and muted versions of the primary colors. Shots are often monochromatic at first glance, but reveal rich color and texture variations upon a closer look. He likes to show handwritten notes and furniture that look like it...

In 2011, Byron Lane was working the midnight to 7 a.m. graveyard shift as a newswriter for TV station Kcal 9 in Los Angeles when a friend reached out and asked, “Want to work for Princess Leia?” The New Orleans transplant spent the next three years as Carrie Fisher’s personal assistant, doing everything from traveling with her to Australia and Japan to meting out her daily medications, prescribed for her bipolar disorder.
Lane, an actor, screenwriter and playwright — his outlandish comedy “Tilda Swinton Answers an Ad on Craigslist,” starring Lane and Tommy Lenk, has played to packed houses in London and New York and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival — is now releasing his debut novel, “A Star Is Bored,” a fictionalized account of a depressed news reporter who lands a dream job as the assistant to film icon Kathi Kannon. NBC’s most venerable primetime hit, entering its 20th season, isn’t out of ideas yet, says one of its stars. But that’s hardly cause for celebration.
“Unfortunately, there’s still storylines,” said “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Ice-t at the Cinema Society event celebrating NBC’s fall season launch at New York City’s Four Seasons Restaurant on Thursday. “Unfortunately, the stuff we deal with is going on more than ever. We were pre-the #MeToo thing, we were talking about that 10 years ago. So, I mean, you can’t make this stuff up. Life has unfortunately given us unlimited amounts of material.”
“Svu” has for decades now generated its narrative energy from the investigation of assaults, but the rapper-turned-actor, who walked the red carpet with his wife Coco, noted mixed feelings about aspects of the #MeToo movement. “I have a kind of interesting feeling about it.

Lexus hosted their Laws of Attraction bash in San Francisco last night for plenty of loved-up celebrity couples. The event's DJ, Fabrizio Moretti, brought along his girlfriend, Kristen Wiig. The couple, who usually are shy about press attention, didn't seem to mind kissing for the cameras. Jason Schwartzman also partied with his wife, Brady Cunningham. Brady and Jason enjoyed an adults-only night, leaving their 18-month-old daughter Marlowe at home. Jaime King, meanwhile, made the rounds with husband Kyle Newman. Model Devon Aoki also showed Pda with her partner, James Bailey. Simon Doonan and his husband, Jonathan Adler, were the brains behind Lexus's new campaign, which was unveiled last night. Photographer Ellen von Unwerth snapped photos of the famous pairs - kissing in front of Lexus cars - for a new range of advertisements. Simon and Jonathan, Kyle and Jaime, James and Devon, and Jason and Brady are all in the...

At last night's gala benefit for The Moth, a non-profit dedicated to the art of storytelling, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels shared a few memories of Adam "McA" Yauch with The Huffington Post.
In the early 80s, McDaniels' group, Run-d.M.C., and Yauch's group, the Beastie Boys, were label-mates on Def Jam Records -- and tag-team partners locked in combat with music's status quo. Today, both groups are safely ensconced in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but it wasn't always obvious that they were destined for immortality.
"You know, it was early, so people thought Run Dmc's a fad, Beasties is a fad, you know, all of this is a fad," McDaniels said. "Run-d.M.C., we crossed over with the rock -- but then it was Run-d.M.C. and the Beastie Boys that took it to venues. We started playing Madison Square Garden, L.A.

Now that we know that actress, model, jewelry designer, and Old Navy enthusiast Molly Sims will be hosting an incredibly necessary Project Runway spinoff on Lifetime called Project Accessory, I feel a PopWatcherly duty to help her come up with a fairly lame but subject-specific sendoff line for each week’s eliminated contestant.
It won’t be that easy; it’s not like she’s German. (She’s probably a little German.)
How Should Molly Sims Shatter People’S Dreams?
“You’re booted.”
“Buckle up for the ride home.”
“I’m bagging you.”
“Nobody be jeweled by the rocks that you got.

Check out which celebs we bumped into in the front row, vote for you think was the best dressed of the day & read my daily Fashion Week diary!
The second day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was full of even more celebs than the first! My first show of the day was Rebecca Taylor, where Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg told us all about her sexy new Maxim photo shoot. Also in attendance was Ramona Singer and Garcelle Beauvais.
After we watched the very wearable collection come down the runway, I stopped into the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge, where Ramona was relaxing in between shows. After a quick break I was off to Rebecca Minkoff, where singer Kat de Luna and the Gossip Girl clan dominated the front row! Michelle, Jessica Szohr, and Tamika Sumpter were all on hand to witness a gorgeous collection.
Last but not least was Cynthia Rowley, where...

The festive six weeks are packed with food celebrations, crazy parties, and the annual unveiling of Simon Doonan's iconic and amazingly creative windows for Barneys! It features some of our favorite Food Network celebrity chefs - from Rachael Ray to Anthony Bourdain, no culinary personality was overlooked! Two things we learned on last night’s Celebrity Apprentice: 1) Girls just want to have fun Eiffel Towers and birdcages in their rooms, and 2) Bret Michaels, Poison frontman/activist/reality star also happens to be a very adept photographer. Honestly, guest judge Jonathan Adler wasn’t the only one wishing he could borrow Bret’s gorgeous New York City skyline photos for his own walls — both my mother and I (yes, we spent Mother’s Day watching Celebrity Apprentice, what of it?) found ourselves yearning to pick up a Bret Michaels original. Who knew the rocker was such a crackerjack photographer?...

Our pal John Polly is back with the next installment of the Beautiful Moments vlog, in which he consults Barneys Creative Director and all-around groovy fella Simon Doonan on a variety of topics fun and fabulous.
This week Simon shares some tips on having a personal and un-tacky wedding ceremony (Bridezillas are soooo 2007), and talks about his own wedding to Jonathan Adler last fall in CA. (Unison: "Awwwwwww!") Our fave tip: "Keep it small ... But alert the media!"
Enjoy!!

National Public Radio has a new series starting this week that will give some well-known names a chance to create a story of their choice for the Morning Edition. This "Open Mic" Series will let the guests who are usually the interviewee become the interviewer and ask the questions.
The new format will allow writers, directors, composers and artists to explore a subject that they are curious about or a subject that is close to them. Designer Jonathan Adler, memoirist Simon Doonan, Broadway composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and author Neil Gaiman are the first guests slated to appear. Each will pitch an idea and work with the Morning Edition team to make it happen.
Adler will air on June 18, along with his husband Doonan, to discuss their fathers and the way their relationship with their fathers affected their gay lifestyle and their differences in growing up in an accepting vs. non-accepting household.

Here's some great news for us folks Stateside: Logo (our parent company) has secured the rights to broadcast the first two seasons of the British comedy Beautiful People here in the States. The show is based on the memoirs of style icon Simon Doonan (also the husband of American superdesigner Jonathan Adler).
Set in the early '90s, the show tells the story of Simon's coming-of-age as a gay teenager in working-class Britain, and made a big splash with mainstream audiences when it premiered in the fall overseas. We've been dying to get a look at the show (being big fans of both Doonan and of the people behind the sitcom, who also brought us a little show called Absolutely Fabulous) and we're stoked that we'll all get the chance in the near-term.
