[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers about “The Rain” Season 1, including the finale.]
In Netflix’s post-apocalyptic series “The Rain,” the pernicious precipitation is deadly to most of Scandinavia and has a massive impact on anyone else who’s survived. For Rasmus Andersen (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen), living through the (un)natural disaster has a traumatic effect on him, especially when he understands that although he’s resistant to the virus that’s carried in the raindrops, and therefore he could be the key to developing a vaccine, he’s also a carrier of a mutated strain that is even more devastating than the original.
In the series’ sixth episode, viewers get their first clue that not all might be right with Rasmus. After spending an intimate night with Beatrice (Angela Bundalovic), he finds her lying dead next to him in the morning. It’s not entirely clear what may have caused this. The rain that dripped on...

Tagline: "Stay Dry. Stay Alive." Director: Kenneth Kainz. Writers: Jannik Tai Mosholt, Christian Potalivo and Esben Toft Jacobsen. Cast: Alba August, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard and Lars Simonsen. "The Rain" is a science fiction thriller from Denmark. The initial series consists of eight episodes. And, this is the first Danish series for Netflix. In the series, a family struggles to cope with a virus, which is spread through water droplets. The first episode, "Stay Inside," puts the family below ground in a bunker. But, events force some of the characters back outside. The series does not really offer hyper-realism, with a brother and sister surviving in the bunker for five plus years. Still, "The Rain" is a decent apocalyptic series, partially set in the beautiful Danish countryside. The first episode begins and stays with the protagonist, Simone (Alba August). The initial scenes are very light in tone. Characters wear bright smiles and bright,...

The end of the world is pretty terrifying, no matter how it happens. In the upcoming Netflix series “The Rain,” the main culprit is a deadly downpour that wipes out most of Scandinavia’s population.
People outrunning killer weather isn’t entirely new in apocalypse stories (just ask Jake Gyllenhaal), but it looks like this show is more concerned with what happens years later, after two children who survived the initial attack venture back out into the world to find companions. Emerging from a bunker they’ve been locked in for half a decade, they eventually found people who had their own way of lasting through the killer precipitation.
After finding a small pack of other survivors, it’s clear that even though the streets and schools and supermarkets are deserted, the danger didn’t end when the deadly virus got swept away. There are guns and gangs and killer...

In a world where precipitation carries a deadly virus, an umbrella isn't just an item of luxury, it's a necessary tool for survival. Calling to mind post-apocalyptic films and Richard Laymon's One Rainy Night (one of my favorite infection novels of all time), the new teaser trailer for Netflix's series The Rain may have you digging out your yellow slicker (just don't walk by any sewer drains while wearing it).
You can watch the teaser trailer below and read on for additional details before The Rain arrives this spring:

There isn’t a month that goes by that I don’t silently send thanks to having gone to high school before cellphones were the hip thing. If it was hard being an awkward teenager before, it’s undoubtedly more difficult now when your awkwardness can be instantly uploaded online for everyone to see.
That doesn’t seem to be exactly what happens in Kaspar Munk’s feature film debut Hold Me Tight (Hold om mig) but it’s darn close. Written by Jannik Tai Mosholt who was also responsible for the Danish horror film Room 205 (review) (currently in Sam Raimi’s remake pile), it’s the story of four teens and an event that arises from a misunderstanding and is caught by cellphone video.
My language skills aren’t enough to discern what’s going on in this trailer and the video clues are tantalizingly vague but it certainly looks promising.

Sam Raimi will remake two European horror flicks via his Ghost House Pictures. The first will be "Anguish," remade from the Spanish film of 1987 which was helmed and written by Bigas Luna. Tells of two girls who watch a horror film and end up living their own horror in real life which mimics the plot of the film. The other film is a remake of "Kollegiet" (a.k.a. "Room 205), a Danish horror of 2007 which was helmed by Martin Barnewitz and written by Jannik Tai Mosholt. Story focuses on a college freshman who, after he moves into a dorm, finds out that her room is haunted. Was part of the Ghost House Underground series of DVD releases. Sam Raimi and Rob Tabert will produce the film which will be well labeled as "The Dorm." Stephen Susco, writer of "The Grudge" and "The Grudge 2" will work the screenplay. ...
