Deftones took the stage at Coachella on Friday night, delivering a ferocious 12-song set that included a cover of The Smiths’ “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.”
During their set, Deftones also performed “Combat,” from 2006’s Saturday Night Wrist, for only the second time ever. They also ran through “Feiticeira,” “Digital Bath,” “Ohms,” “Change (In the House of Flies),” and “My Own Summer (Shove It).” Watch video of Deftones’ Coachella performance and see the full setlist below.
Perhaps even more exciting, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno confirmed in a backstage interview that the group is nearing completion of their next album. As Moreno explained to Kroq, all of the music for the album is recorded and he just needs to finish up the vocals. “We want it to be great. I think that’s most important. But it is coming, and, yeah, it’s really good. We’re...

Folks who were clinging to hope of seeing a concert at the Greek Theatre this summer are succumbing to reality. The beloved outdoor amphitheater in Los Angeles has pulled the plug on its 2020 season as the coronavirus pandemic plays out.
It’s the first time in the Greek’s 90-year history that it has scrapped a season.
“Although we had hoped to celebrate our 90th anniversary season of providing live entertainment for the citizens of Los Angeles, we feel it is the right, responsible and safe thing for fans, artists, staff and our Griffith Park community to put a pause on live, large crowd events until 2021,” said AP Diaz, executive officer and chief of staff of L.A.’s Department of Recreation and Parks, which owns the celebrated facility.

About two minutes into “Outta My Head,” from the new album Free Spirit by pop-r&B star Khalid, a strange, foreign sound bubbles to the song’s shiny disco-pop surface. It’s a squiggly, pitchy thing that echoes the melody for about 15 seconds before receding into the background.
Could it be … yes, it’s a guitar solo!
The solo on Khalid’s album, played by John Mayer, is a way for the genre-hopping Khalid to show off his omni-directional vision. But in 2019, there’s no denying that the flashy guitar-breakout moment,...

Garage punks Le Butcherettes get confrontational on their cheeky new video for “strong/Enough,” the latest single off their upcoming fourth album. Due February 2019 via Rise Records, the untitled new album follows their psych-laden 2018 Ep, struggle/Struggle, and is produced by Talking Heads keyboardist Jerry Harrison.
Filmed in the beautiful, architectural Box House in the Hollywood Hills, the new video sees frontwoman Teri Gender Bender (née Teresa Suárez) going about her day dressed as a gigantic heart. The costume, she describes to Rolling Stone, is “a morbid-looking, deformed elephant-type heart with a David Lynch essence.

Jerry Cantrell and Batman collide for the new song “Setting Sun.” It’s the Alice in Chains guitarist’s contribution to a series of tracks inspired by the DC Comics graphic novel Dark Nights: Metal: Deluxe Edition.
Cantrell recorded the pounding track with producer Mike Elizondo and film composer and Marilyn Manson collaborator Tyler Bates.
“All you were is wiped away / All your love has died today / Run, you are a setting sun,” Cantrell sings on the grim solo track that would sit comfortably alongside his Alice in Chains output.

There’s a particular joy that comes from an excellent soundtrack accompanying an excellent movie. When the music matches the moment, from The Full Monty to Pulp Fiction to Cool Runnings, we experience a moment of aesthetic contentment.
But what about when the soundtrack is infinitely superior to the film? Buying soundtracks is often a great musical choice, because you get songs from a variety of artists – but what if the film they accompany was mediocre? Or worse still, one you’d never consider (or admit to) watching in a million years?
Here are a few that deserve to be placed in brown paper covers, or filed in itunes under a different name:
The ok-movie-Kickass soundtracks:
10 – About a Boy is a feelgood romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant (how very surprising, I hear you gasp), with a lovely script. It’s one of those films you enjoy, but can’t really remember.

Currently on the road in the midst of the fourth Music As A Weapon Tour, David Draiman, frontman of Chicago's Disturbed, recently sat down with Fangoria Musick prior to a show to discuss music, film, and the horrors of real life and beyond.
James Zahn (Fangoria): When people hear the band Disturbed, I don’t think they necessarily associate you with the horror genre, but your latest album Indestructible is pretty dark in terms of subject matter, primarily with real-life horror…
