Life in Flight follows Will played by Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) who is a successful architect with a seemingly "perfect" life. A wonderful wife and child, a successful business that may soon be merging with a larger firm, and all the possibilities in front of him. Yet, from the opening scene it is decidedly clear that Will is not happy and looking for something more. Enter Kate (Lynn Collins from True Blood), a young designer who meets Will through a mutual friend. The two strike up a friendship over their mutual love of designing and the seeds are sown for Will to begin to look for that one little thing that’s been missing in life.
If the plot of Life in Flight sounds even slightly familiar, well it is. It is very much a by the numbers story of a man stopping to take stock of his life. Though rather...

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"The Fantasia Collection"
Released by Disney Home Entertainment
While the headliner of Disney's incredible group of releases on November 30th will be the four-disc Blu-ray double feature of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000," it's what's less publicized that should be exciting to both Disneyphiles and film fans in general. Starting with the hi-def debut of the two "Fantasias," Disney will finally include amongst the films' copious special features (many ported over from the out-of-print DVD set) the 1946 Salvador Dali-Walt Disney collaboration "Destino," along with an 82-minute making-of documentary. And incidentally, Disney is also releasing three standalone documentaries that shouldn't be overlooked in "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story" about the songsmiths behind the studio's most famous musicals like "Mary Poppins," "Walt & El Grupo," which details the company-shifting trip Walt Disney took with his animators to Latin America as part of the Good...

There's a moment late in "Life in Flight" when Will (Patrick Wilson) tells his young son, "I haven't been paying a lot of attention lately." It's a difficult thing to admit for the harried husband and father, who spends most of the film kowtowing to his wife Kate (Amy Smart), who'd rather see him land a major commission for his architectural firm than have him attend their son's biodiversity science fair. As Will finds out, such choices have left him with the life he might once have imagined for himself, but not one he wanted. Though he's become a successful architect, the lines that have defined his life have become blurred, particularly when he meets Kate (Lynn Collins), a free-spirited designer. Writer/director Tracey Hecht knows something about those kinds of decisions, having recently broken away from a career in design to make her feature debut, which...

NEW YORK -- This tale depicting the quiet existential despair of a married architect who finds his feelings reawakened by an attentive single woman is so muted and internal in its focus that its entire running time feels like a preamble to a drama that never quite begins.
"Life in Flight" recently screened at Tribeca.
Patrick Wilson, in a role not too far removed from his domestic adulterer in "Little Children", plays Will, a successful New York architect who seems to have it all: a beautiful, successful wife (Amy Smart), an adorable 7-year-old and a career that is on the verge of taking off thanks to a prospective merger with a big firm.
But there seems to be something missing, as evidenced by an early scene in which he attempts to initiate some early morning sex only to be rebuffed by his hurried spouse. When he meets young retail designer Kate (Lynn Collins), he begins a quiet flirtation in which he pointedly forgets to mention his being married. When she finds out, she's so distraught that she immediately moves to Los Angeles.
Although it's admirable that director-screenwriter Tracey Hecht refuses to infuse the proceedings with melodramatic plot elements, her tasteful restraint proves detrimental. Most of the drama takes place within Will's churned-up psyche, but though the handsome Wilson fulfills the physical aspects of his role perfectly, he's unable to provide the characterization with a depth that goes much beyond a hangdog expression.
Smart is similarly unable to infuse her thankless role with any significant texture, and though Collins is appealing as the emotionally naked Kate, her character also fails to come to life.

- A streamlined lineup, and some restructuring in the ticket pricing means that the Tribeca film festival folks are fine-tuning a festival which is slowly leaving the learning curve stages. With today's PR release, the 7th edition once again showcases global efforts, has tons of titles up for grabs and many of those titles and filmmakers are unfamiliar to me since about half of the 145 films are by first time directors. Scroll below to see the complete list of offerings: Films that I've heard of prior to include, from the World Narrative comp we have Shane Meadows' latest entitled Somers Town. The project which initially was supposed to be a short film until it ballooned into something bigger, we have Michelle Monaghan's taking on duel roles as producer and actress in a family drama called Trucker. Notable new works from the "Encounters" section include legends Melvin Van Peebles and Robert Drew,
