Bat For Lashes’ The Dream of Delphi music video from filmmaker Freddie Leyden – who last joined us here on Dn with Under the Skin of a Guild: Wake of Lost Souls, a movement based indictment of London Guildhall’s legacies of slavery and colonisation – combines 70s folk horror influences with surreal imagery and retro camera-trickery to invoke a palpable atmosphere of dreamlike ethereality. The video stars Bat For Lashes’ Natasha Khan as, initially, a lone figure, dressed in an eye-catching red dress, flowing and weaving her way through the mystifying electronic tones of the song. It’s very much a video that understands the power of colour, costume and composition, and how through a tight combination of each of those elements, an effective and transportive ambience can be created. Barbie leads the feature competition of the annual Hpa Awards, whose nominations in features, TV, documentaries, commercials and restoration were announced Tuesday.
The postproduction community nominated Greta Gerwig’s hit film for outstanding color grading, editing and sound. Close behind with two nominations apiece in the feature categories are Oppenheimer (color grading and editing), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (sound and visual effects), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (color grading and editing), Tár (color grading and editing) and Avatar: The Way of Water, for which teams at Weta FX and Industrial Light & Magic were both nominated in the VFX category.
The eligibility period runs from September 2022 to September 2023, which is why some of last year’s Oscar winners and contenders are nominated alongside some of the upcoming season’s contenders.

As the war between Russia and Ukraine closes out its fourth month, displaced Ukrainians continue to make their way to safe-haven countries, most without any guaranteed prospects of work.
Diana Olifirova — a Kyiv-born and London-based cinematographer — saw the gap that was widening between refugees and the need for work and set about organizing a London networking event that connected recently relocated Ukrainian film and TV professionals with established London industry folk.
On Monday, before the doors even opened at the Cvp & Arri Creative Space, a dozen Ukrainian film industry professionals were already waiting outside, seemingly eager for the evening to begin.
“It’s important to connect people and not neglect introductions,” said Olifirova whose recent credits include Netflix’s “Heartstopper” and Channel 4/Peacock’s BAFTA-winning “We Are Lady Parts.” Olifirova was astutely aware of the influx of fellow Ukrainians as they reached out to her for connections and possible work.
