Director/writer: Brian A. Metcalf. Cast: Brad Dourif, Mackenzie Rosman and Elaine Hendrix. The Fading of the Cries is primarily a fantasy film with a few horror-styled monster trappings. The walking dead and unassuming vampires are used in a tale about a young lad, Jacob (Jordan Matthews), who rescues an equally aged, Sarah (Hallee Hirsh), from certain death. All they mostly do is run around town in a vain attempt to find a safe haven. A tiny bit of interest with Jacob and Sarah is developed. But what happens is hardly Twilight. The interest is there, but they do not go the extra mile. The chemistry developed has the feel of Matthews giving a very early Keaanu Reeves-like performance and Hirsh with the presence of Sandra Bullock. She’s clearly in charge, but not by much. When the little township she lives in suddenly becomes zombie central, nobody is interested in learning why.

Title: Fading of the Cries Writer-director: Brian Metcalf Starring: Jordan Matthews, Hallee Hirsch, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Brad Dourif, Mackenzie Rosman, Elaine Hendrix, Jessica Morris, Julia Whelan, Lateef Crowder A hobbled sci-fi thriller that cobbles together various disparate mythologies, the independently produced Fading of the Cries clearly doesn’t have the money to compete with the genre big boys, but it also lacks an imagination in presentation or execution that might enable it to escape the downward pull of its limitations. Writer-director Brian Metcalf utilizes special effects as a sort of tech-age concealer, to try to spackle over various production cracks and shore up narrative deficiencies, but the result is a risible hodge-podge...

Writer/director Brian A. Metcalf’s largely ambitious horror-fantasy Fading of the Cries is almost too much of everything, and not enough of something, creating a hog bosh that somehow is interesting despite these criticisms.
The film starts off as a typical horror movie, one of those home invasion/Diy zombie movies, and then swirls the viewer into a fantasy world much like a low-budget, darker Chronicles of Narnia. Zombies, swords, bats, Wormtongue, um, I mean Mathias, played to slimy satisfaction by Brad Dourif, Fading of the Cries is a wonderful case of “almost”, where ambition arm-wrestles its flaws in a tug-of-war.
This indie production uses nearly 1000 VFX shots, which is pretty much unheard of for an indie, yet that’s the spirit we love to see in these films. We rarely get that, and it’s a shame that the film, no matter how courageous in its ambition it has,...

Back in August of 2009 we weren't kidding when we said this one was deep in post-production, with release far off. However, almost two years later, the good folks behind Fading of the Cries have finally has announced a release for sometime in late May or early June. This is no direct-to-video release though, Eammon Films is planning on sending this one to theatres.
No details yet on how wide this will release, or the after-market plans. However, with a film of this scope, it's only fitting that it get some kind of theatrical release. Check out the trailer ... g'head we'll wait.
This looks like something far removed from the average indie film; boasting over 1,100 effects shots and genre mainstay Brad Douriff. Quite frankly, I'm also kind of a fan of Thomas Ian Nicholas. No I'm not kidding, he entertains me.
