She sang in Zurich, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, The Royal Opera in London, La Scala in Milan and Metropolitan Opera, New York.
She directed Il trovatore in Philadelphia and Porgy and Bess in Rio de Janeiro.
In 2011, she was recipient of the National Opera Association's "Lift Every Voice" award.
She did sing for the Chicago Lyric Opera in the 1960's, appeared in roles at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London (England) in 1970, and made her Metropolitan Opera debut in New York in 1965.
She recorded a very fine album of Puccini and Verdi arias which is still available today and it is a testament to a very fine expressive voice.
