Fiend Without a Face, the surf punk/psychobilly side-project of Mastodon guitarist-singer Brent Hinds, are hitting the road for their first tour dates since 2016.
The Fall 2023 US trek kicks off Tuesday (September 26th) in Atlanta and routes across the South, wrapping up October 8th in San Antonio, Texas. Dirty B and The Boys will provide support. Pick up tickets to select dates via StubHub, where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.
Fiend Without a Face have origins that pre-date the formation of Mastodon. Their self-titled debut album was released on CD via the ShutEye imprint in 1998 (and subsequently reissued on vinyl by Volcom in 2012), and the single “Black Grass” was released in 2001. Eventually, Hinds enlisted Mastodon bandmate Brann Dailor on drums for another self-titled effort in 2017 — considered the proper debut album from the project.

Mastodon’s Brann Dailor spent his pandemic year embracing an unusual hobby: Drawing illustrations of clowns, in often terrifying settings.
The fruits of that bizarre obsession will soon be shared with the world in the form of 101 Clowns of the Coronavirus, a book that the drummer will publish in partnership with Revolver.
“The clowns kept me from spiraling out during all the uncertainty,” Dailor says. “They kept me from sinking into a deep depression or experiencing crippling anxiety. The clowns were perfect for that — even the dark ones.”

Mastodon’s Brann Dailor and Baroness’ Sebastian Thomson linked up for a Halloween-appropriate quarantine cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s 1981 track “Over the Mountain.”
Dailor — hamming it up for the camera in a long black wig and an “Ozzy for President” T-shirt, flanked by a pair of fake skeletons — sings lead on the heavy track, with Thomson on drums. They’re joined by Darkest Hour’s Mike Schleibaum (guitar), Kvelertak’s Marvin Nygaard (bass) and Jordan “Gwarsenio Hall” Olds, host of the “Two Minutes to Late Night” series (guitar).

Mastodon’s Brann Dailor and Russian Circles’ Mike Sullivan joined for a collaborative version of Alice in Chains’ “Rain When I Die” as part of the “Two Minutes to Late Night” quarantine cover series.
Dailor plays drums on the colorful rendition, adding harmony vocals alongside lead singer Justin Suitor (Painted Wives). Sullivan and Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man) nail the song’s wah-wah guitars, and host Gwarsenio Hall adds bass. Midway through the track, the quintet break into the riff from another Nineties rock classic, Soundgarden’s “Spoonman.”

So, How Was Your Decade is a series in which many of the 2010s’ most innovative musicians answer our questionnaire about the people, places and things that shaped their last 10 years. We’ll be rolling these pieces out throughout December.
“What the hell happened in the last 10 years?” Brann Dailor asks Rolling Stone over the phone from Atlanta. In the past 10 years, the drummer released three records with Mastodon — The Hunter (2011), Once More ‘Round the Sun (2014) and Emperor of Sand (2017). Jerry Cantrell and Batman collide for the new song “Setting Sun.” It’s the Alice in Chains guitarist’s contribution to a series of tracks inspired by the DC Comics graphic novel Dark Nights: Metal: Deluxe Edition.
Cantrell recorded the pounding track with producer Mike Elizondo and film composer and Marilyn Manson collaborator Tyler Bates.
“All you were is wiped away / All your love has died today / Run, you are a setting sun,” Cantrell sings on the grim solo track that would sit comfortably alongside his Alice in Chains output.

What can we expect from the final season of Game Of Thrones? The Night King’s last stand, we’d bet. More nephew-fucking, definitely. And yeah, probably another Mastodon cameo. And, if an easy-to-overlook scene with Melisandre is any indication, a role for R’hllor, the Lord Of Light.

Ed Sheeran made his Game of Thrones debut in the season seven premiere. The people of the internet had a lot of thoughts. The singer, who isn't the first musician to make a cameo on the series, appeared in a scene with Maisie Williams' Arya Stark, right after she did one of her most badass things (read all about that here). His appearance, which included singing, was done for Williams, a fan of Sheeran. "For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it," co-creator David Benioff said at a SXSW panel in March. Other musician cameos have included Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon, but...

Ed Sheeran appeared on the Game of Thrones Season Seven premiere. The songwriter appeared around a campfire with a crew of Lannisters, eating rabbit and crooning the unofficially-titled "Hands of Gold." The song first appeared in A Storm of Swords, George R.R. Martin's 2000 installment of the Song of Ice and Fire series.
"For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm," the grinning Sheeran sang, as Arya Stark happened upon the dining Lannister clan. "It's a new one," the musician explained in close-up.

Mastodon gave a devastating performance of "Show Yourself" on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday. Drummer Brann Dailor and bassist Troy Sanders delivered a thunderous dual vocal performance over Brent Hinds' searing guitar solo.
"Show Yourself" appears on Mastodon's new LP, Emperor of Sand, a concept record that explores life, death, time, illness and doom through the story of a man who is handed a death sentence from a desert ruler and then wanders an arid wasteland.
However, "Show Yourself" has served as a respite of sorts from the album's heavy and personal subject matter.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that HBO plans to quietly wind down Game of Thrones just because of the reduced episode count; if anything, the final, truncated two seasons will give showrunners the ability to “break boundaries” through the use of cutting-edge CGI and new camera techniques.
That’s according to Kit Harington, whose Jon Snow quite literally received a new lease of life in Game of Thrones season 6. Now appointed King of the North, Harington has spoke at length about the monumental encounters that await in this year’s seventh season, and during a recent interview with the Huffington Post (via Comic Book), the actor touched base on the scale and scope of Game of Thrones season 7, and why it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet – even if it’s technically the shortest.

Ed Sheeran will be on the HBO hit, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss announced at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas on Sunday.
The producers said the “Shape of You” singer is a favorite of cast members and they have been trying to get him for awhile — and this season they did.

Since its inception, Game of Thrones has had deep ties to real-life musicians. Kristian "Hodor" Nairn has a lengthy career as a guitarist and DJ. The Hold Steady's version of the popular-in-Westeros song "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" appears in the Season Four episode "Walk of Punishment." And Alfie Allen, who plays everyone's favorite humbled eunuch Theon Greyjoy, is the brother of pop star Lily Allen.
But the show has gone beyond that, casting actual recording artists as regular cast members or occasional superfan guests for the benefit of eagle-eyed music fans.

Mastodon rocker Bill Kelliher fell asleep while filming his cameo for 'Game of Thrones'. The guitarist has revealed he was so exhausted that he dozed off after being told to ''play dead'' when he and his bandmates Brent Hinds, Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor and Eric Saner filmed their guest slot for the HBO medieval fantasy drama. He said: ''There was a lot of playing dead which contrary to popular belief is not that easy to do. I actually fell asleep, laying down on the ground with my battle axe by the water because I was so jet-lagged.'' Bill spoke about how he and...

Mastodon has shown two very different sides with the two song releases thus far for forthcoming album "Once More 'Round the Sun." There's the more melodic, mass consumer bent on "High Road," and then there's today's "Chimes at Midnight." The latter chomps a bit deeper, hits a bit heavier, and is representative of how fans may see this album meander more than their used to. This is not a bad thing. The most progressive sounds from the metal band have been exorcised on "Crack the Skye," their more bounding, commercial licks like on the "Jonah Hex" soundtrack and on 2011's "The Hunter." After a couple listens to "Once More..." there is just an expanse that even veers into (dare I say it?) glam. All the while, Brent Hinds' voice is in snarling, excellent form and drummer Brann Dailor is still a godd*mned monster. Veteran producer Nick Raskulinecz -- yup,...

Brent Hinds, frontman and lead guitarist for Mastodon, has reached the inevitable point in the evening when his speech starts to slur. A few hours back, during a listening session for his Atlanta metal band’s epic new album, Crack the Skye, he polished off at least six Budweiser tallboys; here at a clubby midtown Manhattan steakhouse, where his tribal forehead tattoo and reddish lumberjack’s beard are comically out of place, he’s deep into a procession of Jack-and-gingers. He’s cracking some increasingly nasty but harmless jokes about...
