Movies I've been psyched for this year that have not performed well at the box office: "Kick-Ass." "Splice."Considering "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" is included in my list of films I most anticipate this year, I'm going to try to tone down the guileless shilling. It seems films with the full enthusiasm of the movie blogging public get bogged down in needless hype.Edgar Wright, director of fun fare like "Shawn of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" debuted a clip from "Scott Pilgrim" on the MTV Movie Awards, so I'm told. It is, was and will remain a clip of Scott (Micheal Cera) fighting one of the evil ex-boyfriends of his new crush Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). This particular ex is an action-movie star named Lucas Lee, played by action movie star Chris Evans (soon to be Captain America to you punks). This is the first footage of...

With the release of Iron Man 2, Marvel Comics' plot to enslave moviegoers moved another step forward. But for those turned off by the looming onslaught of comic-book movies – Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America, etc, all building up to an Avengers team-up in 2012 – resistance is at hand. As Kick-Ass recently showed, comic-book movies no longer necessitate special powers, product placement or family values. And there are more where that came from.
Admittedly, the next graphically derived offering, The Losers represents the more explosion-friendly, A-Team-wannabe end of the spectrum, but closer to Kick-Ass is Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, based on Brian Lee O'Malley's six-volume series (Oni Press), and led by the decidedly un-superheroic Michael Cera. Higher in brow but right up Guardian street is Tamara Drewe, adapted from Posy Simmonds's update of Far From The Madding Crowd. Directed by Stephen Frears and starring it-girl Gemma Arterton,...

As promised, Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Edgar Wright's upcoming comic book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which is based on an awesome series of books by Brian Lee O'Malley. And as we see here in the trailer, this isn't what some might expect out of a comic book movie -- but it is certainly what fans of Scott Pilgrim might expect out of a Scott Pilgrim movie.

Universal Pictures has released a brand new poster for Edgar Wright directed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the live-action adaptation of Brian Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series, featuring a shot of Michael Cera with the tagline “An epic of epic epicness”.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Synopsis: Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl...

Admittedly, we were somewhat disappointed when we arrived at the 2010 ShoWest only to find a thrown-together mock-up of a poster for Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World , essentially the previously-released still and a generic title logo. That was exacerbated by Universal neglecting to show footage from the movie at the Opening Ceremony. At least the former has been rectified with the very first teaser poster for Wright's take on Brian Lee O'Malley's popular series of graphic novels, starring Michael Cera in the title role, joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Jason Schwartzman and more. It's a fairly simple image of Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim wielding his bass guitar and the slogan "An epic of epic epicness," which doesn't say a lot about what the...

The first annual Indie Game Challenge wrapped up this past Friday and over $200,000 was awarded in prize money to the winners.
Steam punk puzzle game Cogs won the day with three different awards including Best Professionally Made Game with a prize of $100,000. Lazy 8 Studios, the developer of Cogs is a three man team and hopefully these awards will help them continue to develop more great titles.
After the ceremony, the Indie Game Challenge announced their plans for next year’s iteration of the contest. Hopefully they consider adding more categories for awards, simply so they can garner attention for a greater body of independent titles.
Other winners include 2D puzzle platformer Gear and multiplayer aerial shooter Altitude.
Here’s the offical list:
Non-professional $100,000 Grand Prize Winner: Gear
Gear was submitted by: Joshua Maiche, team lead; Mike Halbrooke, level designer; Ben Frazier, level designer; Brian Lee, designer, graphics, art and music; and Andrew Hill,...

Universal Pictures has set release dates for a few major 2010 releases, including Little Fockers and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
The third comedy in the Meet the Parents trilogy has been bumped from July 30 to December 22, which domestic distribution exec Nikki Rocco told THR is an “opportunistic” way to cash in on a Christmas season lacking in laughs. It also puts the threequel in the same moneymaker slot as the original in 2000 and the follow-up in 2004.
The already wrapped movie deals with the Fockers (Ben Stiller and Teri Polo) dealing with the arrival of baby twins. Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson, Jessica Alba, Laura Dern and Harvey Keitel also star. It’s title is subject to change.
The newly vacated July 30 slot will now house The Adjustment Bureau, a story about a politician (Matt Damon) who encounters mysterious forces keeping him from being with the only woman he...

Universal Pictures has released their 2010 line-up, which finally includes a release date for Edgar Wright's live-action adaptation of Brian Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The film, which stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, and Jason Schwartzman, will be released Summer 2010 on August 13th. This gives Wright and crew a chance to promote the film at Comic-Con in San Diego (they were unable to attend the 2009 con due to the intense shooting schedule). The film is scheduled to go head to head with Sylvester Stallone's action throwback The Expendables and Julia Roberts' Eat, Pray, Love. The first of which seems like a real conflict. I'm thinking the characters from Wright's Hot Fuzz might be more interested in seeing the former. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World recently test screened in Las Vegas to really...

It's the release date shuffle today as a couple anticipated movies grab new dates as well as the announcement of a couple new Universal summer releases. Universal has announced an update to their 2010 line-up including the move of their comedy threequel Little Fockers , being pushed back from its original July 30 release to come out instead on December 22, in order to take full advantage of the holidays much like the previous installment, Meet the Fockers . Already scheduled for a Dec. 22 release were The Green Hornet , Gulliver's Travels and Life As We Know It . Meanwhile, Edgar Wright's anticipated follow-up to Hot Fuzz , the movie version of Brian Lee O'Malley's graphic novel Scott Pilgrim vs. the World , starring Michael Cera, has finally settled on its summer...

Readers, I apologize on behalf of comics this week. Not a whole lot of good new stuff (save Forgetless) is coming out this week, so my selections for this week’s installment were a struggle. To make matters worse, this will be the last installment of the year because I’ll soon be on vacation and I don’t want to have to do sh*t when I’m supposed to be loungin’.
Don’t worry, I’m mean to return from vacation on January 3rd. So expect more opinionated rambling then.
Since this column is more pessimistic than usual, here are the things I liked this year.
Best New Series: Chew, featuring a totally bizarre premise that no TV network would touch. Let’s wait for Cinemax to prove me wrong.
Best Collected Edition: Final Crisis hardcover by Grant Morrison, J.G. Jones, Doug Mahnke & Others. Morrison uses the good vs.

Ashbury's Brian Lee explains how 'Pregunta Deleon' started — and why it's now out of his hands.

It started back in July, with a treasure chest delivered to a hotel room in China. It continued with a message and a golden turtle in Korea and a pill bottle in Mexico. And it's apparently still going on right now, which probably explains why Pete Wentz has been seen wandering around Los Angeles wearing a gold mask and clutching a mysterious manila envelope.
It's what Fall Out Boy fans are calling "Pregunta Deleon," a viral campaign that involves time travel, continent-hopping messengers, a faux Bible, inscrutable Web sites, a shady doctor, some medication, the MTV Video Music Awards and — most notably — Wentz and the Cab frontman Alex Deleon (despite the fact that, until very recently, neither had any idea...

Shamed basketball star Charles Barkley has been released from jail after serving just 36 hours of a three-day sentence for drink driving.
The 46-year-old sporting legend turned himself in on Saturday to start his sentence for driving under the influence (DUI) relating to his 31 December arrest in Phoenix, Arizona.
Barkley left Tent City Jail, where he was housed in a separate area from other inmates, just before 8.00 a.m. on Monday, according to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lieutenant Brian Lee.
He served 36 hours before after getting 12 hours of work release on Sunday and Monday.
Barkley pleaded guilty in February to two misdemeanour DUI charges stemming from his 31 December arrest, when he failed a field-sobriety test after leaving a Scottsdale nightclub.
His sentence was reduced from 10 days by an Arizona judge provided he completes an alcohol-treatment program.

Totally movie related because Edgar Wright and gang are in Toronto making a movie about this series of books [Edgar? Why won’t you return my calls? :::sniffle:::]. We have sang the praises of Brian Lee O’Malley’s comic opus and I was reminded that the fifth volume, titled Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe came out this week! Hell. Yeah.
Scott Pilgrim just turned 24, and things couldn’t possibly be better! This means things are about to get infinitely worse. Suddenly, Two of Ramona’s evil ex-boyfriends are in town, and they’re playing dirty. His band is in turmoil, and his own exes aren’t making things any easier. And what’s up with Ramona, anyway? She’s been acting kinda weird ever since they moved in together. It’s the Second Last Volume of Scott Pilgrim: Scott’s precious little life is coming back around to bite him in the butt, and it may not be pretty!

The Hollywood Reporter have done the right thing and put me out of my misery by unveiling eight new cast members for Edgar Wright’s Brian Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim’s Wicked Little Life.
If this were still the late 90s and Edgar Wright was still to male his second feature film (for those only casually interested in the man, Shaun of the Dead wasn’t the first, you know – that honour goes to A Fistful of Fingers. And that’s probably only if we’re counting just commercially released projects too) and was still primarily best known for the sit-com Spaced, it’d still be blindingly obvious that he was so easily the best director to take up this material.
So, who are the eight? There’s an illustrated rundown after the break, alongside one of Edgar’s typically teasing snaps of one of them.
