The mystery of Ruby Sunday has been solved, and after teasing the parentage of Millie Gibson’s motherless Mancunian since she arrived in Doctor Who’s 2023 Christmas special, series 14 finale “Empire of Death” brought everything full circle. Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteen had been helping Ruby try to trace her family tree all series, and now, we know who her mother is… a regular human woman with no supernatural or alien connections.

At the start of The Responder’s first series, written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, the cracks were already showing in Martin Freeman’s police officer Chris Carson. He was depressed, angry, and having panic attacks.

A former inspector who’d been demoted to response policing when his squad came under suspicion of corruption, Chris had spent the last three years working night patrols in Liverpool city centre. He was unpopular at work and considered a loose cannon best left alone. His shift pattern meant that he barely saw his wife Kate (MyAnna Buring) and their young daughter Tilly. His wages couldn’t cover the fees at the care home for his dementia-suffering mother (Rita Tushingham). He wanted to be a good bobby, but under-funded public services made him at best, a sticking plaster on the desperate needs of his drug-flooded and impoverished community.

The first series of psychological drama The Responder held a mirror up to the emotional extremes of life on the front line of British policing. Written by former Merseyside police officer Tony Schumacher, the show was equal parts a thrilling police procedural and intense character study, with a tour de force performance by Martin Freeman at the centre. It was one of the biggest dramas of 2022, winning Freeman an International Emmy for Best Actor and several BAFTA nominations. Half of the first series was directed by Philip Barantini, who went on to direct the brilliant Boiling Point.

“The Second Best Hospital in The Galaxy” Trailer Out Now

The doctors are in! Prime Video has released the official trailer for the upcoming adult animated series “The Second Best Hospital in The Galaxy,” coming to the platform late next month.

The new series, produced by Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, and Danielle Renfrew Behrens’ Animal Pictures, follows Dr. Sleech (voiced by Stephanie Hsu) and Dr. Klak (Keke Palmer), two alien best friends-slash-intergalactically renowned surgeons in the business of rare illnesses, including anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, and deep-space STIs.

Good Omens star David Tennant is to play infamous Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen in an ITV drama from the makers of Sky and HBO’s Catherine The Great.

New Pictures’ three-part miniseries, Des, is based on the Brian Masters book Killing For Company, in which the author cooperated with Nilsen to get inside the mind of a man who murdered at least 15 men and boys between 1978 and 1983. Nilsen died in jail last year.

Joining Tennant is The Crown star Jason Watkins, who will play Masters, and Line Of Duty actor Daniel Mays, who features as Detective Chief Inspector Peter Jay. The story charts Nilsen’s arrest and trial, through the prism of the three men.

Des was developed by Luke Neal and Lewis Arnold, with Neal writing the first two episodes and Kelly Jones penning the third. Willow Grylls, Kim Varvell, Charlie Pattinson, Elaine Pyke, Neal, Lewis Arnold and Tennant are the executive producers.

The War of the Worlds star Rafe Spall and His Dark Materials actress Anne-Marie Duff have been cast in BBC Two’s dramatization of the Novichok poisonings in the historic British city of Salisbury in March 2018.

Also joining the cast of Dancing Ledge Productions’ Salisbury are Game Of Thrones actor Mark Addy and Ripper Street‘s MyAnna Buring, as well as Annabel Scholey and Johnny Harris.

Filming has begun on the three-part miniseries, which is written by McMafia writers Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn. It will tell the story of how ordinary people reacted to the crisis as their city became the focus of an unprecedented national emergency when Sergei and Yulia Skripal were poisoned by Russian operatives.

Salisbury is executive produced by Les Miserables producer Chris Carey and Dancing Ledge CEO Laurence Bowen along with Patterson and Lawn and the BBC’s Lucy Richer.

Halliwell will arrive at the tills of the show's Valco supermarket and be served by superfan Lisa (Beverly Rudd).

Trollied is one of Sky1's most successful homegrown comedies and has aired three series.

The show stars Jane Horrocks, Jason Watkins, Rita May, Joel Fry, Carl Rice, Lorraine Cheshire and Faye McKeever.
