Exclusive: CAA has signed The Umbrella Academy star Emmy Raver-Lampman for representation in all areas.
Raver-Lampman is best known for her role as Allison Hargreeves in Netflix’s Emmy-nominated series The Umbrella Academy, opposite Elliot Page and Tom Hopper. Season two had the longest #1 streak for any scripted show on Netflix, according to the streamer, and the series has been renewed for a third season.
On the big screen, Raver-Lampman will next be seen in Open Road’s Blacklight, starring opposite Liam Neeson. She is also set to star in Warner Media’s Gatlopp and recently wrapped production on MGM’s Dog with Channing Tatum. She recently starred in Nick Simon’s Untitled Horror Movie, a comedy-horror film shot entirely during lockdown with the entire writing, pre-production, and filming process taking place remotely.

Two stars of Shadowhunters reunite for one of the most comical movies you'll see this year, and it premieres on VOD on Saturday.
Untitled Horror Movie follows a group of actors who are surprised to find their show on the brink of cancellation, so they set out on a mission to create their own horror movie.
Former Shadowhunters stars Luke Baines and Katherine McNamara star alongside Claire Holt, Darren Barnet, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Timothy Granaderos on the flick.
We got the chance to catch up with them with Baines and McNamara ahead of the movie launch.
Baines co-wrote the movie with Nick Simon, with Baines saying they get along because his co-writer does not take himself too seriously.

Kino Industries has entered into a creative and co-financing partnership with Rocketman financier Starlings Entertainment.
As part of the deal, Starlings will establish a fund for film and TV development, also meeting co-financing and P&a commitments on projects shared with Kino.
To this point, Kino Industries has been best known for creating CtrlMovie, a “pioneering, interactive technology” allowing film and TV audiences to have real-time collaborative influence over the direction of a story and its characters. The first CtrlMovie production involving Starlings Entertainment will be Echo on Sunset (working title), a feature from BAFTA-winning director Tobias Weber (Late Shift), who co-founded Kino Industries and invented its “proprietary, patented film, streaming and gaming experience.”

"I didn't film that!" Another webcam horror! (Yet) Another Distribution Company (that's their name) has released an official trailer for an indie horror film called Untitled Horror Movie - yep, that's the real title for this, too. Also can be abbreviated as Uhm. A supernatural comedy about making a horror movie. When six actors learn their TV show is about to be canceled, they decide to make their own film, unintentionally summoning a spirit with an affinity for violence. Untitled Horror Movie is another follow-up in the make-a-horror-film-over-Zoom craze (see: Host), at first mocking it, then becoming seriously scary as well. Or so it seems. The big ensemble cast features: Luke Baines, Darren Barnet, Tim Granaderos, Claire Holt, Katherine McNamara, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Kal Penn, Aisha Tyler, Kevin Daniels, Lesly Kahn and Sohm Kapila. It looks much funnier than it does scary, for better or worse. Check it out below. Here's...

What did you do during the pandemic? If you’re a filmmaker with horror tendencies, you made a lo-fi horror film, it seems. That’s what Ben Wheatley did with “In The Earth,” same with filmmaking duo Nick Simon and writer/actor Luke Baine (“The Girl in the Photographs“), and it’s also what “District 9” and “Chappie” director Neill Blomkamp did too with his “free time.” The result is “Demonic,” a horror-thriller about unleashing demons and supernatural forces between family members.

The Umbrella Academy star Emmy Raver-Lampman has joined Apple’s animated series Central Park in a recasting for the role of Molly Tillerman, the mixed-race character originally voiced by Kristen Bell. The announcement comes ahead of tonight’s Central Park season one finale.
In June, Bell and the show’s creative team mutually decided that Bell would step back from the role, releasing a statement which said that “casting of the character of Molly is an opportunity to get representation right – to cast a Black or mixed race actress and give Molly a voice that resonates with all of the nuance and experiences of the character as we’ve drawn her.”
Bell’s exit from the role came amid the racial reckoning occurring in Hollywood and around the world following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

As the pandemic lockdown changes the landscape of film and TV, many are shifting the way they tell stories — and a lot of that is shooting remotely. Filmmaker Nick Simon has done exactly that with the film Untitled Horror Movie which recently completed principal photography.
Directed by Simon, who co-wrote it with Luke Baines, the comedy-horror was shot entirely during lockdown with the entire writing, pre-production, and filming process taking place remotely. Set on computer screens and found footage style content, the movie follows six actors who decide to shoot their own horror movie as their hit TV show is on the brink of cancellation. In their search for a plot, they unintentionally summon a spirit with an affinity for violence, who starts picking them off one by one.
Baines also stars alongside Claire Holt, Darren Barnet, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Katherine McNamara and Timothy Granaderos (13 Reasons Why). The cast also features Kal Penn, Kevin Daniels, and Sohm Kapila.
“I’ve always believed that film should be a collaborative art form, and I don’t think there’s a truer example than with this picture,” said Simon, who was mentored by Wes Craven. “The actors did everything from lighting themselves — guided by our incredible Dp, Kevin Duggin — to recording their own sound and doing their own hair and makeup. As crazy as that could have been, it was easily one of the most enjoyable experiences in my professional life. It was one of those once in a lifetime moments when everything aligns at the exact right time.”
The film comes from Sundance and SXSW Grand Jury Award-winning producer Bronwyn Cornelius and Marina Stabile. Randy Sinquefield’s Spectrum Studios financed the picture. CAA Media Finance represents the film’s worldwide distribution rights.

After bringing alligators to the big screen in Crawl, Alexandre Aja will next direct a new haunted house movie that will incorporate its audience into its storytelling.
According to Collider, Aja will helm an untitled haunted house movie for Amblin Partners, based on an idea by Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, the latter of whom will also write the script along with Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs) and Aja.
Collider describes the film as a "choose-your-own-adventure-style horror movie" in which audience members will vote on the decisions they'd like characters to make using an app on their phone, resulting in multiple endings and narratives for viewers to experience. Amblin is teaming up with Kino Industries’ CtrlMovie technology to create the new haunted house movie.

Naturally being able to rely on your intuition to help guide you to make the right choices and form meaningful connections is a powerful personality trait some people possess that can greatly empower their lives. But for those people who lack the ability to trust their instincts, their lives unfortunately won’t leave them feeling fulfilled. The meaningful examination into both types of people is grippingly presented in the new horror film, ‘The Girl in the Photographs,’ which was directed by Nick Simon, who also co-wrote the script with Robert Morast and Osgood Perkins. I don’t like speaking ill of the dead, especially icons who’ve defined an entire genre, but name-dropping is a marketing tactic best left for the living. Director Nick Simon’s newest feature film is titled The Girl In The Photographs and I honestly believe I see Wes Craven’s name pop up in connection with this film more than Simon’s. Naturally, with Craven having passed in August of 2015, he’s likely to have had little [if anything] to do with the marketing of this movie, but it would certainly seem like he’s calling the shots from the gave.
Sadly, The Girl In The Photographs is not the shining example of groundbreaking genre filmmaking for which the legendary master posthumously deserves credit. Nick Simon‘s The Girl in the Photographs seems to be a story reverse-engineered from its final image — which, for a low-budget horror film, is an effective one. No spoilers here, and it wouldn’t matter if there were. By that point, it’s too little and far too late to redeem the film after we’ve been subjected to recycled horror tropes, which predictably clunk their way toward an unsettling final moment. Perhaps this should have been a short and not a ponderous, forgettable feature. In a sense, it’s a horror picture for the selfie generation — fitting, as the narrative is utterly vapid and shallow.

Last September, TheWrap’s list of breakout talent at the Toronto International Film Festival included the female cast of Nick Simon’s slasher movie “The Girl in the Photographs,” the final film to boast the involvement of horror icon Wes Craven. Little did we know, however, that it would be the the guy behind the photographs, a young actor named Luke Baines, who would leave the strongest impression as the film’s primary villain — and no, that isn’t a spoiler. “It’s not a secret and it was never meant to be,” Baines hold TheWrap as “The Girl in the Photographs” hits theaters.

Playing as part of the 2016 Victoria Film Festival at: The Vic Theatre 808 Douglas St. Victoria, BC Friday, Feb 12 — 8:45pm The Girl in the Photographs is making its BC premiere during the 2016 Victoria Film Festival and both Thomas Mahoney (who will be in attendance) and director Nick Simon could not be any happier. Both of these producers made this garden city their home away from home when this movie was filming here. Mahoney is one of the many producers involved this film and both have a passion for crafting many a tale of terror. Mahoney made a very Euro-flavoured tale of terror, Anarchy Parlor (2015) and Simon with Robert “Oz” Perkins (Anthony Perkins son) on several scripts. Some were commissioned, on spec. The most notable movie is Removal (2010). Although they do not work on every movie together, they’ve broadened. Without giving away too much away about this thriller/horror movie product,...

The Girl in the Photographs was a film I was very interested in checking out and with good reason. I’ve been a fan of writer/director Nick Simon’s ever since I caught his first film Removal several years back and have been eagerly to see what his next effort would be like. I’m also – like the majority of the horror-loving world – a long-time admirer of the late, great Wes Craven. When I heard Craven was the executive producer of Mr. Simon’s sophomore film, I couldn’t wait to see what Girl would actually be like.
It’s the story of young South Dakota resident and grocery store clerk, Colleen (Claudia Lee). Colleen’s rather lackluster life is turned upside down when a mysterious photographer begins to stalk her, leaving bloody, grisly photographs for her to find, each depicting the aftermath...

While the Toronto International Film Festival has mostly garnered a reputation as a place to often get the first look at movies that go on to critical acclaim and Academy Awards, the festival’s Midnight Madness section, which is reserved for genre films, has built a following of its own as well, getting a more prominent showcase as the years have passed. This has, in turn, led to films such as Adam Wingard’s You’re Next and Gareth Evans’ The Raid to make their world premieres at the festival under this banner, making the lineup every year an announcement that genre fans anticipate. For the 2015 incarnation of the festival, Tiff has now announced their first wave of screenings.

I’ve been a sucker for a good tomb raiding adventure film ever since I first fell in love with the Indiana Jones movies as a kid. The same goes for absolutely anything to do with ancient Egypt or the pyramids, so naturally I was excited about a chance to check out The Pyramid.
Written by Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon, The Pyramid is directed by Gregory Levasseur (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D). It makes use of the found footage storytelling device to depict the adventures of father and daughter archaeologists Miles Holden (Denis O’Hare) and Nora Holden (Ashley Hinshaw) as they explore a mysterious three-sided Giza pyramid (most of the pyramids of Giza have four sides) with their team during the Egyptian protests of 2013. At first, they rely on camera-equipped, remote-controlled robot “Shorty” to show them what’s what inside the pyramid.
