"It's not them I'm worried about." Paramount+ in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for a horror thriller film titled No Escape, from director Hans Herbots and writer Kris Mrksa. Reinventing themselves on the other side of the world, 19-year-old Brits Kitty and Lana find refuge on a yacht in the Philippines called "The Blue" - full of beautiful people, parties and endless beaches. But in joining her crew, they fall into far greater dangers than the ones they were trying to escape. Sounds like a modern version on The Beach, involving a yacht and pirates this time. Adapted from a book by Lucy Clarke. "It's been the most incredible experience to see my novel re-imagined for screen. I’ve loved every moment of the journey from reading early scripts to visiting the set in Thailand. The series is breathtaking: transportive, gripping, and thrilling from beginning to end. I...

The CW has always had a thing or two for an international acquisition, and it seems that this strategy is continuing under new ownership.
The network has acquired British supernatural drama series The Rising and Australian surfer drama Barons for its summer lineup. Both series will debut on Monday, May 29, with The Rising airing at 8 p.m. and Barons at 9.
It comes after Nexstar acquired the network and brought in Brad Schwartz to oversee programming. Deadline has revealed that the network will lean further into unscripted programming, with the hire of Heather Olander and the recent pickup of FBoy Island, and it seems global drama is also on the cards as it trims its original scripted budget.
The Rising comes from Sky in the UK, as Deadline revealed back in 2019, and is a remake of Belgian supernatural crime thriller Hotel Beau Séjour.

The premiere of Amazon’s Back to the Rafters last month and the impending production of Netflix’s Heartbreak High offer insight into how international platforms approach local IP with cultural resonance.
Whereas one picks up the story of a family six years after their last outing, the other will reimagine a world from before the turn of the century, sharing only its title and young adult genre with the original.
The local and international popularity of both series – Heartbreak High was sold to more than 80 countries in the ’90s and Packed to the Rafters to a number of European and Asian territories, as well as South Africa – makes them appealing for platforms like Netflix and Amazon with global audiences. However, the process of bringing back an old favourite is not always a smooth one.

Justin Kurzel’s exceptionally disturbing, horribly plausible “Nitram” opens with an excerpt from a 1979 Australian news report on firework accidents. A boy of about 12 is being interviewed from his Hobart hospital bed, and when the posh, compassionate voice of the presenter asks if the injuries he sustained will discourage him from playing with fireworks in future, he smiles a strange, sly smile, and says no. Years later, he is a young man (electrically played by Caleb Landry Jones) in the backyard of his parents’ house, setting off firecrackers while neighbors howl at him from their balconies. The intense discomfort of this nitroglycerine meditation on what makes a mass murderer is exactly that of watching a lit firework burn down in your hand toward its gunpowder base, unable to let go of it, transfixed by its snapping sparks.

"Laughing at my pain..." An early teaser trailer has debuted for the chilling film Nitram, which is the latest from gritty Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel. The film will be premiering at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival currently underway, premiering in the Main Competition section at the very end of the fest. The film focuses on a young man named Nitram, and the events leading up to the 1996 Port Arthur massacre on Tasmania (Australia's worst mass shooting) in an attempt to understand why and how the atrocity occurred. The title is a reference to the name of the actual killer, Martin, and is a reverse spelling of his name. Caleb Landry Jones stars as Nitram, and the superb cast includes Essie Davis, Anthony Lapaglia, Judy Davis, and Sean Keenan. This is a very unnerving introduction and first look at an Australian film that seems like it will be haunting and uncomfortable to sit through.

“Nothing You Are About to See Is True.”
Those are the words that teasingly introduce True History of the Kelly Gang, the dazzling and defiantly rogue western from director Justin Kurzel that plays with facts to get at a deeper truth about Ned Kelly. While he played a noble soldier in “1917,” George MacKay’s latest film “The True History of the Kelly Gang” casts him as a ruthless, murderous outlaw and gang leader with a taste for blood and revenge.
MacKay stars with Russell Crowe and Nicholas Hoult in this western-esque thriller from director Justin Kurzel that’s set during a violent period in Australian history.
“Many would call me the coldest blooded murderer ever, but others knowing the truth would call me a hero,” MacKay says with menace in the first trailer for the film.

David Wenham on set of his directorial feature debut, 'Ellipsis'..
In the second part of his interview with If, David Wenham chats about his recent roles in 'Wake in Fright', 'In Like Flynn' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'...
When David Wenham was offered the role of the police sergeant Jock Crawford in the miniseries Wake in Fright he initially recoiled at the idea.
As a passionate admirer of Canadian director Ted Kotcheff.s seminal 1971 movie based on the Kenneth Cook novel he thought the idea of a remake was ridiculous.
Wenham had watched the restored movie twice, at the Sydney Film Festival and at the Chauvel cinema, rating it as a visceral experience and an incredible piece of filmmaking.
However he changed his mind after reading Stephen M. Irwin.s script for the Network Ten two-parter directed by Kriv Stenders.

Claudia Karvan in 'Newton's Law'..
How did you get involved in Newton.s Law?.
I think they originally wrote it for Miriam Margolyes. She was originally devised as an old, fat Jewish woman (laughs). I've never worked with them before so I don't know how I came on their radar. I was a big admirer of the film Mallboy.that Fiona [Eagger] produced a long time ago. It's one of my favourite Australian films. It really packs a punch..
I've never heard of it.
It's really worth checking out. I loved it. And then, obviously, [I.m] a big fan of SeaChange and totally appreciate the extraordinary phenomena that is Miss Fisher, and what successful producers they are. They just approached me, I read it, we had a few conversations and then it was all happening. I really wanted to play a character who was emotionally intelligent and had authority and...
