Warner Bros.’ Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is taking flight with House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The actor screen-tested for writer-director Gunn last week, along with Meg Donnelly, who was also in contention for the role.
The film is partially inspired by the Tom King miniseries of the same name. Gunn and Safran have described this take as not the Supergirl audiences are used to. She will stand in contrast to her cousin, Superman. As Gunn told reporters in late January 2022: “We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth.”

James Gunn and Peter Safran have laid out their future plans for DC Studios, and the results are pretty exciting. Having the ship steered by someone with a clear vision and an obvious love of the source material is exactly what DC movies need. Speaking of comics, Gunn recently tweeted the inspirations behind DC's new direction. He was careful to say that while these books are significant to upcoming projects, DC Studios won't be adapting them all. It's great news because the comics serving as "touchstones" are all excellent!
DC Studios may not be directly adapting all the books Gunn mentioned, but we know one recent comic that is definitely getting a movie: "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." The eight-issue miniseries from Tom King and Bilquis Evely first hit stands in 2021, wrapping up the following year.

Black Adam is one of the most powerful characters in DC Comics' vast pantheon. He is the creation of Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, and made his debut in 1945. The character's backstory has been updated and fiddled with over the years, but the elements that have remained pretty consistent are that he is of ancient Egyptian origin who's granted superhuman powers by the wizard Shazam, and while he starts off as a good man, later becomes corrupted.
Like many comic book characters who've been around for ages, Black Adam has evolved and undergone numerous changes throughout. While he is generally portrayed as a villain, he's gone through periods of reform to take on a more heroic persona. While Black Adam spent much of his time in the DC Comics universe as the primary villain to Billy Batson-slash-Captain Marvel-slash-Shazam and the other members of the Marvel Family, he's risen...

The long journey of Black Adam to the big screen finally completed this year. Originally intended as the villain of Shazam! in earlier scripts for that DC movie, star and executive producer Dwayne Johnson asked WB to separate the two characters and grant them their own individual films. It’s a choice that over the years has seemed strange to comic fans who only knew Black Adam as Shazam’s opposite, a former magical champion who was corrupted by his powers before eventually becoming a DC antihero. But in observing the actual history of Black Adam, it’s a creative decision that makes sense.
Over the past 20 years, Black Adam has been radically transformed and shifted into a more complicated character and figure in the DC landscape rather than just “Shazam villain,” with a whole cast of colorful characters, and even his own super-family that have added to his mythology,...

This post contains spoilers for "Black Adam."
DC's "Black Adam" props up Teth-Adam (Dwayne Johnson) as an unconventional super-powered being who reluctantly winds up in a position to protect the modern world from evil. Despite his undefined stance on heroism, Teth-Adam teams up with the Justice Society to stop the Intergang from acquiring a crown of primordial power connected to the demon champion, Sabbac. After Intergang's leader, Ishmael (Marwan Kenzari), manipulates events to trigger the rebirth of Sabbac in his host body, Black Adam and the Justice Society of America attempt to fight this super-powered, awakened demon who seems to be powerful beyond measure. The battle is rife with hurdles, but dogged determination and sacrifice allow Teth-Adam and the others to overpower and kill Sabbac.
There are several differences between "Black Adam" and its comics storyline, including the details of Teth-Adam's origins and the origins of the Jsa members. The...

For well over a year now, Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the team behind "Black Adam" have been hyping the upcoming DC film as a turning point for the DC Extended Universe, with special emphasis on the fact that the titular character is a somewhat merciless badass. As it turns out, they weren't joking: according to Collider, the film came very close to landing an R rating for its violence.
The outlet spoke with producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia in an interview, where Flynn revealed that "Black Adam" went not one, not two, but "four rounds" with the MPA, the group responsible for approving American theatrical movie ratings, before it finally landed a more audience-friendly PG-13 rating.

Dwayne Johnson's "Black Adam" is about to shake up the DC Extended Universe. Based on the character created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, Adam is an agent of extreme chaos. In the comic books, he is typically the archenemy of Shazam. In Jaume Collett-Serra's film, he will be portrayed as an antihero, one who has the potential to be a powerful ally of the Justice Society of America or one of its most dreaded foes.
As written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the movie will introduce both Adam and the Jsa into the Dceu. Given that the beleaguered brand is attempting to right itself after years of aimless development, it's vitally important that "Black Adam" palpably connects with mainstream audiences. It won't be easy. There's a ton of backstory to cover in this film, which, if not cleanly conveyed, could prove to be a major...

DC League of Super-Pets takes a crack at comic cannon hero and Superman/ Superboy companion Krypto, the super dog. This exceptional film, directed by Jared Stern and starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, shows why DC creates some of the best animated content around.
Krypto made his first comic appearance in Superboy Adventure Comics in March 1955 and was created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan. He wasn’t supposed to last more than one issue, but his popularity kept the character in canon. He has all the powers of Superman and is often seen fighting alongside the caped hero.
Now, League Of Super-Pets exists in a world that knows about and accepts superheroes. In Metropolis, Superman Clark Kent (John Krasinski) and his dog Krypto (Johnson) continually save the city from danger. With Kent and Lois Lane (Olivia Wilde) growing closer, the dog wonders if he’ll be abandoned,...

You don’t need him to tell you this, since obviously you know it’s true: Dwayne Johnson definitely will “kneel before no one,” and you can see for yourself in the first full trailer for “Black Adam.” Watch the embed above
“I was a slave until I died. Then I was reborn a God. I kneel before no one,” he says in the trailer.
Can you reason with Black Adam? Probably not. When Hawkman tells him, “Heroes don’t kill people,” Adam replies, “Well, I do.” This is followed by Adam enduring waves machine gun fire and catching a rocket in mid-air with a wave of explosions to boot. He’s pretty powerful — obviously, since he gets his powers from the same place Shazam does.
You can watch the full trailer for “Black Adam” in the video above.

Do heroes kill? The Rock certainly isn’t the first person to raise this question, but he does need to answer it after fans expressed frustration with the latest trailer for his upcoming Dceu movie, Black Adam.

“Leverage” star Aldis Hodge is in talks to play the role of Hawkman opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in “Black Adam,” DC and New Line’s highly anticipated superhero movie, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Hawkman is the name of several DC Comics heroes, but the best known versions are the original incarnation created by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville in 1940, and a rebooted version created by Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert in 1961, and later revamped by Timothy Truman.
The 1940 character was the alter-ego of archaeologist Carter Hall, who discovers he’s the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian prince cursed and murdered by an evil priest. The 1961 version reimagined him as Katar Hol, an alien from the planet Thanagar whose costume is the uniform worn by his world’s police force, the “Wingmen.” An individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap “Black Adam” will feature Carter Hall,...

In the past couple years, Warner Bros has caved to the Marvel trend and begun including bonus scenes during and after the credits of a lot of its movies based on DC Comics. These things tend to exist to tease future movies in a franchise, and that’s exactly what DC is doing with them as Geoff Johns and co. try to rebuild the DC Extended Universe after the “Justice League” disaster. And the latest film in that filmic universe, “Shazam,” definitely has an eye toward the future of the Dceu.
That said, the mid-credits teaser on “Shazam” can be quite a head-scratcher if you don’t know what’s going on, because it gets a little bit obscure with the character it brings out for this extra scene. So let’s take a look at what exactly that bonus scene means.

The New Line movie, Black Adam, based on the DC comics property will hit cinemas on Wednesday Dec. 22, 2021, five days after Fox’s Avatar sequel on Dec. 17.
Pic is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who recently directed star Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise. Black Adam will open up against Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 4, Universal’s feature adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, and Warner Bros. still has Sherlock Holmes 3 on that date. I have to imagine it will move.
Though a villain, Johnson is positioning Black Adam as a good guy. Created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck, Black Adam, an ancient Egyptian predecessor of Captain Marvel, was a recurring enemy to him and his family. He made his debut as a one-time villain in the December 1945 first issue of Fawcett Comics’ The Marvel Family.

Superman's pal, Jimmy Olsen is taking on...a very angry kitty cat. And it looks awesome. Seriously.
Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen is one of the most bananas Superman-adjacent books in DC history. It started out as what would later become the foundation for the “Superman is a dick” memes that have provided the internet (and the Batman: The Brave and the Bold writers) with so many hours of joy and so much content. The book ran Jimmy through every ridiculous Silver Age transformation and nonsense comic book science power Otto Binder could think of. It was magical.
Then it was the landing spot for Jack Kirby when he migrated to DC. There, he laid out much of his Fourth World mythology, pitting Superman against Darkseid, rolling out the Forever People and Cadmus, and reinvigorating the Newsboy Legion and Guardian. It started out a wacky side story...

Black Adam doesn't appear in the Shazam movie, but he's headed to the Dceu soon. We have a history of one of DC's best villains for you.
As we all know, Shazam is really Bally Batson, the young orphan boy who is pure of heart and worthy of the power of six mythological champions. But Billy isn’t the only mortal who was able to tap into the power of Shazam. There were a number of other Shazam family members, but today we are going to focus our attention on the most badass recipient of the ol' Shazam magic, Black Adam. Black Adam is truly the most complex (and violent) character to spring from the Shazam mythos and has been the center of some of DC’s best tales of the past 20 years. We have a handy guide to everyone in the Shazam family who can call down the power of the lightning.
With one magic word, Shazam has become one of the greatest superheroes in history. Billy Batson was imbued with the power of the wizard Shazam when he spoke that one magic word, Shazam! A fierce lightning strike would transform Billy into the World’s Mightiest Mortal. He first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (1939) and was created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck. Shazam took the world of comics by storm and became the most popular character on the stands. Captain Marvel (as he was then known) and his magic word even outsold Superman much to DC Comics’ chagrin.

Who is the mysterious character introduced in the Shazam end credits scene?
This article consists of nothing but Shazam! spoilers. We have a spoiler free review of the film here.
Shazam! continues the arc of recovery we've seen in recent Dceu movies. Much like Wonder Woman and Aquaman, it exists firmly within the DC Extended Universe, but also doesn't spend much time worrying about things like setting up crossovers or potential team-ups in the future. But what it does extraordinarily well is lean into what makes the magical world of the Shazam family so unique in the first place. After all, a character who has been around for 80 years certainly has enough mythology to support a franchise all his own, and doesn't need help from the Justice League or anyone else.
Shazam! has two after credits scenes, one that happens mid-credits, and one that happens at the very end.

Take a look at the newest version of the 1950's DC Comics' supervillain 'Brainiac' (Blake Ritson) from the upcoming live-action superhero TV series "Krypton", debuting March 21, 2018 on Syfy:
"He traverses the universe in a gigantic 'skull ship'", said Ritson about 'Brainiac', "ripping cities out of planets, miniaturizing them and placing them on board.
"But he does so in the spirit of conservation...like 'Noah' plucking out two of every animal to ensure their survival, even while knowing that others must perish."
Created by writer Otto Binder (of "Adam Link" fame), 'Brainiac' debuted in "Action Comics" #242, July 1958.
In storylines involving time travel and cloning, variations of Brainiac depict him as a green-skinned alien android from the planet 'Colu'...
...capable of manipulating computer systems, exerting control over time and responsible for shrinking 'Kandor'...
..the bottled, surviving capital city of Superman's destroyed home planet 'Krypton'.

Even though many enduring elements that we now associate with Superman were products of the Silver Age or the 1940’s radio drama, it’s important that we never forget the contributions that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster made to comic books – and pop culture as a whole – when they created the Man of Steel for Action Comics #1 back in 1938. After all, that served as the very blueprint for the superhero genre as we know it today.
With that, one could say that the character’s 80th anniversary being celebrated by the release of the one-thousandth issue of Action is a bit too poetic. And appropriately enough, DC is complementing the periodical release of said issue with a commemorative hardcover titled Action Comics #1000: 80 Years of Superman. Suffice it to say, this is shaping up to be a must-own for any fan of Big Blue.
Understandably, many of you reading this...
