The Kodak Theatre has hosted the Academy Awards since 2001, and I kind of assumed that the ceremony would be staying there for the foreseeable future. I remember back when the Awards moved to the Kodak, with much ado made about how the theater was designed specifically to host the show and that now it would have a permanent home. That may not be the case, however. According to a report from THR, the Academy has informed the theatre that they will not automatically renew their release to present the show there after 2013. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Academy is looking to move, just that they’re keeping their options open. A lease not being automatically renewed wouldn’t even really be news if the Academy hadn’t already attracted a very viable second option. Apparently Aeg and their Nokia Theater are keen on being the new home of the Oscars, and...

Robert De Niro will become a cheese-head for 'Lombardi,' Espn announced Tuesday. The biopic will focus on the years Vince Lombardi led the Green Bay Packers from the bottom of the pack in the NFL to winning the league championships. "Having an icon portray an icon on film is amazing…The results could be magical for NFL fans," said Ron Semiao, senior vice president, Espn Films - Motion Pictures. Lombardi coached the Packers from 1959-1967, helping them to secure the Super Bowl I and II titles. Following his 1970 death at age 57, he was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. "There are few actors who could accurately portray the fire, passion and grit of Lombardi and we’re thrilled to have Robert De Niro on our team," Charles Coplin, the NFL's vice president of programming, told Espn. According to Espn, the movie is aiming to...

ESPN Films is moving up the court with its theatrical features.
The unit is developing a pair of scripted projects inspired by true events: a story of the basketball-playing grandson of infamous cult leader Jim Jones, and the tale of Louis Mulkey, a beloved high school hoops coach who died on duty as a firefighter. Both projects derive from reporting the company undertook on its network and its Web site.
The Jones pic -- which will be written by Sang Kyu Kim, who also has written for Starz's "Crash" series -- will center on Jim Jones Jr., the son of the reverend who lost most of his family in the 1978 Jonestown massacre. He went on to raise a family including a son, Rob, who now plays basketball for the University of San Diego.
Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele, who penned Michael Mann's "Ali," will write the script for "Mulkey,...

NEW YORK -- ESPN on Wednesday announced a broad reorganization of its content division, including the renaming of ESPN Original Entertainment and expanding its reach from only TV to all platforms.
EOE, as it was known, brought to the network original movies like 3, such series as Playmakers and Tilt as well as the series Cold Pizza and Pardon the Interruption and the forthcoming eight-part miniseries The Bronx Is Burning.
ESPN also has named Keith Clinkscales, who joined the sports giant in 2004, as senior vp content development and strategies.
Reporting to Clinkscales will be Ron Semiao, senior vp original events, who will oversee such content as the ESPYs and the X Games. Senior vp Rick Alessandri will continue to focus on the X Games and ESPN's consumer products business. Content development vp Bob Wallace is working on ESPN Reports as well as other projects.
Clinkscales said Wednesday that the creative community that works with ESPN to develop shows, movies and miniseries isn't going to see a scaling down of what he called the "phenomenal history" of EOE.
