General consensus among Halloween fans typically ranks Halloween: Resurrection last out of the eight original films, which is perhaps why efforts have rarely been made to produce special features for the film. 20 years later, defenders of the oft-maligned sequel finally have some new insight into the production.

It’s been really interesting to see the crazy different directions that Nicolas Cage’s career has gone over the years. He’s made a bunch of great films and a bunch of absolutely terrible ones, but Cage always seems to manage to entertain his fans.
His latest film project is a supernatural thriller called Beyond Worlds and Cage takes on the role of Joe, “a down-on-his-luck truck driver haunted by the memory of his deceased wife and child.”
Joe’s life get a lot more crazy and more complicated when he meets Julie (Franka Potente), “a spiritually gifted woman who enlists Joe in a desperate effort to find the lost soul of her comatose daughter, Billie (Penelope Mitchell). But the spirit of Joe's dead wife Mary proves stronger, possessing the young woman's body and determined to settle her unfinished business with the living.”
The more actually looks like it could be pretty good.

"When you go to the other side, are there other people there?" Saban Films has debuted the first trailer for an indie supernatural thriller titled Between Worlds, which premiered at Fantastic Fest to a few positive reviews. Following up Mandy also from this year with Nicolas Cage going full-on crazy, Between Worlds is another Cage Rage movie - but this time he plays a truck driver. Cage plays a down-on-his-luck truck driver haunted by the memory of his dead wife and child. He meets a woman who asks for his help, but the spirit of his dead wife takes over, possessing the young woman's body determined to settle her unfinished business with the living. Director Maria Pulera initially wrote this as a standard thriller, but collaborating with Cage on it made it "a much more surreal drama in the vein of David Lynch." The cast includes Franka Potente, Penelope Mitchell,...

Teens and their parents have a boatload of issues to deal with these days, and it seems like director Leif Rokesh wants to deal with all of them in “Reach.” Every character represents a superficial snapshot of modern strife in one form or another. Though its heart is in the right place when it comes to many of the boldly-portrayed sentiments, the indie melodrama plays like a hokey, weak after-school special rather than a powerful and alarming wake-up call.
Steven Turano (Garrett Clayton) is going through a rough patch on his first day as a high school senior. "Maybe it's time to consider getting some help." Freestyle Digital Media has released the first official trailer for an indie film titled Reach, from first-time filmmaker Leif Rokesh. The honest high school drama is about a social awkward kid named Steven, played by Garrett Clayton (from Hairspray Live! and "The Fosters"), who is planning on killing himself. A new kid in school befriends him and provides some comfort to help him step back. Steven's new friends try to find creative ways to pull him out of his depression. The cast includes Corbin Bernsen, Jordan Doww, Joey Bragg, Johnny James Fiore, Kevin Sizemore, and Concetta Tomei. This looks alright, a bit dour and depressing, perhaps with some positivity to offer. Here's the official trailer (+ posters) for Leif Rokesh's Reach, direct from Freestyle's YouTube: A socially awkward band geek, Steven Turano (Garrett Clayton), is planning on killing himself. However, when Clarence,...

Conspiracy theories and hard drugs blend into one deadly night of carnage in the new horror film Welcome to Willits, and before it's released in theaters and on VOD this Friday from IFC Midnight, we've been provided with a set of stills featuring some familiar faces.
"Aliens, burnouts and clueless campers collide in this bloody and bonkers slasher freak-out. Deep in the woods of Northern California lies the off-the-grid town of Willits, a haven for marijuana growers, meth addicts, and conspiracy theorists. When a gaggle of vacationing teens unknowingly set up their campsite on the property of Willits’ most disturbed resident—a psychotic, drug-addled pot farmer convinced extraterrestrials are out to get him—they’re in for one hell of a bad time. The feature debut from director Trevor Ryan is a no-holds-barred pileup of carnage, twisted comedy, and pure crazy."

A trailer has been released for an interesting looking sci-fi horror film called Welcome To Willits. Willits is a little off-the-grid town in the woods of Northern California that is a "haven for marijuana growers, meth addicts, and conspiracy theorists". The story centers around a group of teens who get mixed up with a crazy pot farmer and then the aliens show up to wreck havoc! It looks like good stupid fun.
The movie was directed by Trevor Ryan and it stars Bill Sage, Rory Culkin, Anastasia Baranova, Garrett Clayton, and Dolph Lundgren. Here's the synopsis:

"I ain't sure what they want, but they ain't nice." IFC Midnight has unveiled an official trailer for a sci-fi horror film titled Welcome to Willits, which played at various genre film festivals all last year. And then the aliens show up and all hell breaks loose. This is described as a "no-holds-barred pileup of carnage, twisted comedy, and pure crazy." Let's hope all of that is true. There are a lot of horror films which are marketed toward the teenage audience and this is where Don’t Hang Up fits in. Unfortunately, this is also where it is likely to get lost. Writer Joe Johnson creates an interesting concept, with some clever twists in the story, but there is nothing in the film which really makes it stand out. Horror fans have seen this done countless times before, with the film taking notes from others such as Saw, they will be able to foresee most of the events before they unfold.
Directors Damien Macé and Alexis Wajsbrot do however show some promise with their feature debut. The opening sequence where a call is received, plays on the classic theme of ‘There’s an intruder in the house’. It may not be the most original idea, but the scene works well to slowly build up a tense atmosphere.

Deep in the woods of Willits, Northern California lives a pot grower by the name of Brock (Bill Sage) and his wife Peggy (Sabina Gadecki). They are being visited by the young Courtney (Anastasia Baranova) for a while and not only that, but they are being visited quite often by those evil little grey bastards from space. Either that or Brock is growing some pretty potent shit. Things become complicated when a group of young campers decide to pitch up in the dense forest. No matter what is going on… There’s going to be carnage.
Well, that’s what the trailers and other reviews would lead you to believe.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Bomb, bomb bomb bomb, Boooooomb! Things just kept getting worse and worse at the box office as this past weekend saw more new releases not meeting up to their potential. The horribly-reviewed horror movie Rings (Paramount) ended up around where I predicted with $13 million, taking second place to M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. The sci-fi romance The Space Between Us (Stx Entertainment) didn’t make much of a mark, opening in ninth place with just $3.8 million with about $1,300 per theater. Robert De Niro’s The Comedian (Sony Classics) tanked worse than many recent movies, making less than a million in 848 theaters or about $1,000 per theater. By comparison, the doc I Am Not Your Negro made about 78% of that amount in 800 less theaters.
