Being in the spotlight certainly isn’t new to Vanessa Simmons. She is the daughter of rap music icon Rev Run of Run Dmc who is considered one of the early pioneers of the genre. On top of that, Vanessa became a reality TV star as a teenager thanks to her family’s show, Run’s House. The show was incredibly popular during its time on the air and allowed Vanessa and her siblings to build large fan bases. Although Vanessa tends to be a bit more private than her younger sister, Angela, she has still been very active in the entertainment industry

Exclusive: Umc, the AMC Networks streaming service with a focus on Black film and TV, has renewed four of its original series including the top-rated Craig Ross Jr.’s Monogamy and A House Divided, which will both return for their third seasons.
The streamer also gave Season 2 renewals to rookies Double Cross and Stuck With You, part of a renewed focus on originals that has seen a new series premiere almost every month on the service in 2020. That has helped spur a subscriber surge of 200% over the past 12 months, according to the network, with about half that total coming since the coronavirus lockdown that began in March.
Debuting in May 2018, Craig Ross Jr.’s Monogamy follows four troubled couples who sign up for an experiment called “swap therapy” in order to determine if their relationships are worth saving or if they should walk away for good. The series stars Caryn Ward Ross,...

Long before what is now referred to as the streaming wars began, Robert L. Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television (Bet) and Chairman of Rlj Entertainment, announced Umc — Urban Movie Channel, Rlj’s proprietary streaming network. Officially launched in February 2015 featuring “urban-themed” series and movies, the service, which is now known only as Umc, is part of a suite of channels and streamers owned by AMC Networks, after the media company acquired Rlj in late 2018.
A direct competitor to the more recognized brand in Bet+, which launched just last fall, Umc might be smaller in comparison, but it’s a characteristic that makes them much more flexible and far less averse to taking risks, especially when it comes to programming decisions. Additionally, having a five-year head start has allowed them the time to work through kinks that typically come with being a pioneer, which arguably gives them a leg-up when...

In the not-too-distant future of Syfy’s “Van Helsing,” vampires and humans alike are battling to survive any way they can, and it doesn’t look like diplomacy is their strong suit.
When last we left vampire hunter Vanessa (Kelly Overton) in the Season 1 finale, we learned that the source of her strange powers is that she’s a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, the doctor-turned-monster hunter from Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” It was actually more of a confirmation, since that’s been obvious from the start, but her father’s identity still appears to have some mystery surrounding it.

Lifetime's "Project Runway Threads" should have been "MasterChef Junior," the unexpectedly great food competition between kid chefs. But while "Threads" is a competition between kids, it's inferior to both its competition and to the show that shares its name. "Project Runway Threads" dumbs everything down for its kids, from its twists (the "Surprise Door Twist" is revealed on a rotating platform as if this show was "Let's Make a Deal") to its set (which looks a collection of former pieces of the "Big Brother" house along with leftover props from "Double Dare"). The first judged challenge is between already-completed looks, so there's no sign of the process that the kids went through to create the work, and process is what's so interesting about "Project Runway." Worst of all, the kids' parents work as their assistants, which is an obvious attempt at creating drama, as is the "assistant steal" prize, which...

Actress and shoe designer Vanessa Simmons took to Instagram on Monday (Sept. 30) to share the news that she's expecting her first child with boyfriend Mike Wayans. Along with the sonogram image she announced that she has "a little princess on the way."
"Our families are super excited. Our baby is coming into two big families with lots of love and lots of joy," Simmons said later in an official statement. "This is my family's first grandchild, so everybody can't wait for her arrival."
Simmons, 30, is the oldest child of Run Dmc's Rev Run (Joseph Simmons). Her early 20s were chronicled first on the family's MTV reality show "Run's House" and then on its spin-off, "Daddy's Girls," which followed Vanessa and her sister Angela as they moved across the country to Los Angeles.
There's also quite the show business legacy on the baby's paternal side as well. Daddy Mike is the son of Damon Wayans.

Vanessa Simmons may not have had a childhood like most of ours (things are bound to be a little different when you're the eldest daughter of hip-hop legend Reverend Run of Run-dmc), but that doesn't mean she didn't experience the same growing pains we all do.
Just like everyone else, Vanessa went through perhaps the single worst rite of passage for any teen: the first heartbreak. The actress/reality star sat down with MTV to open up about her painful split with her first true love for the latest episode of "When I Was 17," which also features ?uestlove and Christina Perri.
As a teen, Vanessa had a serious boyfriend, whom she described as her "high school sweetheart.

Written and directed by filmmaker Lamont Pierre, Talking With The Taxman About Poetry is an indie drama interlaced with poetic flow.
The film stars Kareem Ferguson, singer Steph Jones, Diarra Kilpatrick and Vanessa Simmons (daughter of Joseph “Reverend Run” Simmons and co-founder of Pastry Shoes).
The synopsis for the film states:
Living a comfortably meaningless, anonymous, non-existent life as a recently fired substitute teacher, Theodore, an uninspired writer and literary scholar, is manipulated back to life when a local, lowly, enigmatic trumpet player, Seven, causes an awakening in him of passion, contradiction, and purpose through the medium of the written word.
This will be the third feature film by Pierre who’s previous films have screened at various film festivals including the San Francisco Black Film Festival and Atlanta Underground Film Festival.
