Globalisation isn’t just about lax child labour laws lowering the price of t-shirts; it also has its downsides. Global markets have a tendency to replace local idiosyncrasy with the accessibly bland. Should, for instance, the makers of Sweden’s chocolate Plopp Bar ever branch out into English-speaking territories, they’d be forced to rename their product to something much less funny, and we’d all be the worse off for it.

“Notting Hill” actor Hugh Grant, “The Thick of It” creator Armando Iannucci and soccer star turned sports host Gary Lineker are among the industry heavyweights criticizing the U.K. government’s threats to freeze and potentially scrap the licence fee altogether.
Any U.K. household that watches any form of live television on any network or streaming platform – whether on a television or a computer screen – is required to pay the licence fee. “The BBC is something the whole world admires with envy,” Grant tweeted. “It is entirely appropriate that the insecure, spittle-flecked nut jobs of this government want to destroy it.”

Murder in Successville star Tom Davis has revealed he wants David and Victoria Beckham to guest on a second series.
BBC Three's semi-improvised comedy series stars Davis as the burly Di Sleet, with celebrity guests helping him solve a murder in the fictional 'Successville'.
"Everyone involved in it is dying to do a second series," the actor and comedian told Digital Spy. "If I'm honest, it's just whether there's a channel there to make it for!
"But yeah, fingers crossed - I'm really hopeful. There's nothing confirmed yet, but I'd love to take it up to the next level.
"We've always had big plans if it goes to a second series of what we want to do - the worry would be that people think they know how to handle it, but they've only seen the tip of the iceberg and we can pull the rug out from under them a lot more!

Murder in Successville starts on BBC Three tonight, but even though we've seen the first episode, we'll be damned if we can describe it to you.
Is it a reality show? A comedy? An impressions show? A murder mystery? A prank show? Well, it's kind of all of those things at once - and that's what makes it pretty special indeed.
It's honestly hard to describe the series, but the basic idea is this - a celebrity sidekick teams up with the brilliantly awful Di Sleet (played by Tom Davis) to solve a murder mystery. But that's making it a little too simple, because what we didn't mention is that the celebrity taking part has no idea what they're getting themselves in for. And we didn't mention that the 'murder mystery' is taking place in the fictional town of Successville, populated by celebrities - or at least enjoyably terrible impressions of celebrities.

"It is now the right time for me to move on, although entrepreneurship and diversity are two of my greatest passions so I will continue to focus my energies on supporting both.

Deborah Meaden has argued that Katie Price shouldn't use public funding to pay for her son Harvey's transport to school.
The Dragon's Den star told Loose Women that she agreed with Katie Hopkins's points on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this week.
During a debate in the house, Hopkins criticised Price for relying on the government to pay for her son's driver and an accompanying nurse on the way to and from school, when she could pay herself. Price responded by saying that she pays taxes so has the right to use government funding.
Meaden said: "I am going to agree with Katie Hopkins and I never, ever thought I'd say those words.
"I actually don't agree with the thing that if you put tax in, you expect to get it out. I pay tax into society because I want a better society. I want a safe, happy, healthy society.

An entrepreneur who successfully secured a deal on last night's Dragons' Den later changed his mind, it has been revealed.
Last night's (March 2) series finale saw James Roupell receive offers from all five Dragons for his children's travel pack business Bobo Buddies.
After negotiating the figures behind the deal, he eventually accepted a joint offer from Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden.
However, soon after leaving the BBC studio, he regretted his decision, The Daily Telegraph reports.
"Standing there, surrounded by film crew and cameras, with all eyes on you, is so surreal," he said. "You're under so much pressure to make a decision. I was trying to think rationally. It was only once I'd left that I thought, 'What have I done?'"
His accepted offer saw him receive £50,000 in exchange for a 40% stake in his business. This would reduce to 30% if targets were met.

Deborah Meaden is feeling ''very sad'' about her 'Strictly Come Dancing' exit. The 'Dragons' Den' star was eliminated from the BBC One ballroom show last night (27.10.13) and admits she woke up this morning (28.10.13) feeling devastated after a stormy night wiped out one of her favourite trees to add insult to injury that she isn't heading to dance rehearsals today. She wrote: ''We lost the old Willow the horses stand under last night...feel sad...that and I don't dance today. First day out of @bbcstrictly #verysad ''Rainbow just appeared over our house...that.s better ''I found my pot of gold and it is...

Deborah Meaden and her partner Robin Windsor were eliminated from 'Strictly Come Dancing' tonight (27.10.13). The 'Dragon's Den' star, 54, put on a brave face after losing a dance-off against an injured Patrick Robinson. The judges unanimously decided to save the 'Casualty' actor and his partner Anya Garnis after Deborah failed to impress the judges with her Viennese Waltz. Craig Revel Horwood said: ''I would like to save the couple who both did the best dancing in the dance off tonight and that couple is Patrick and Anya.'' Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli agreed with his decision before Len Goodman added that he would...

Deborah Meaden has been voted out of Strictly Come Dancing.
The Dragons' Den star is the fourth celebrity to leave the competition, following Julien Macdonald's departure last week.
Casualty's Patrick Robinson and his partner Anya Garnis found themselves in the bottom two with Meaden and Robin Windsor, after the judges' scores and viewers' votes were combined.
The two couples repeated their dances to fight to stay in the competition, with Meaden and Windsor performing a Viennese waltz to 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World' by James Brown. Robinson and Garnis performed their salsa to 'Wings' by Little Mix.
Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli each chose to save Robinson, with head judge Len Goodman agreeing that he would have done the same.
Meaden said of her time on the show: "I can't tell you. Strictly gave me a gift but the big gift that Strictly gave...

The drama has started before a dance step has even been pranced on this week's Strictly Come Dancing as Bruce Forsyth, at the grand old age of 85, has been forced to pull out of filming with flu.
Get well soon Brucie! Nice to sneeze you, to sneeze you... not nice.
Cometh the hour, cometh the Winkleman. Claudia will make her Strictly debut slightly earlier this year, pairing up with Tess tonight and on Sunday's results show.
Aside from the hosting merry-go-round, we'll get to see every single celebrity dance for the second time tonight. Can Abbey Clancy be as sexy in Latin as she was elegant in ballroom? Can Dave Myers possibly top week one? And is there any hope for poor Tony Jacklin? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter (@dsrealitybites) and at the bottom of the page.

If Friday night's Strictly was a tasty starter, then this evening's extended edition is a mouth-watering main course, brimming with glitter, tassels and the slightly scary prospect of a Vanessa Feltz cha cha cha.
Eight fresh celebrities will be hitting the dancefloor for the first time this evening. We can probably expect some early signs of brilliance from a couple of twinkle-toed celebrities, but we should probably also brace ourselves to watch through our fingers as some famous faces display their two left feet.
Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight (September 28) at 7pm on BBC One. Join Digital Spy for all the action as it happens.
20:26We'll be back here for more live-blogging next Saturday and the first celebrity will get the boot next weekend as well. Julien, Vanessa and Tony could all be in trouble. Abbey, Natalie, Patrick and Susanna look like the early frontrunners. But that could easily change fast.
