Veteran sports journalist Rachel Nichols will work as a contributor to CBS’s overall basketball coverage. The network does not carry NBA games. However, CBS and Warner Bros. Discovery Sports share men’s March Madness rights through 2032. Nichols will find other venues on CBS to share her insights and analysis.
That assignment is only one item on a busy dance card for Nichols. She is also developing two news series for Showtime and Paramount platforms — all of the entertainment brands share a corporate parent in Paramount Global. One of the projects in development, called “Headliners,” is an interview series that will highlight some of the most influential figures in sports and entertainment.

A federal judge dismissed on Wednesday a lawsuit against celebrity endorsers of the cryptocurrency EthereumMax accusing them of fraudulently misleading their followers into buying Emax tokens only to sell their stakes once its value was inflated.
The proposed class action alleged the celebrity promoters, including Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather and Paul Pierce, conspired with the founders of the cryptocurrency to dupe investors into purchasing Emax tokens using their endorsements in a pump-and-dump scheme.
While the case raises “legitimate concerns” over the ability of celebrities to persuade undiscerning followers to buy “snake oil with unprecedented ease and reach,” U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald found that there’s an expectation for “investors to act reasonably before basing their bets on the zeitgeist of the moment.”

“I’m never wrong about this stuff, never,” said a dismissive and scoffing Larry David earlier this year in that now infamous Super Bowl ad for investing in cryptocurrency exchange Ftx.
While the Seinfeld co-creator rejected the wheel, coffee, the U.S. Constitution, electricity, putting a man on the moon and more innovations in the much praised commercial, looks like David might have been right about the now collapsed Ftx, for all the good it’s going to do him.
Along with the likes of Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, Shaquille O’Neal, and Naomi Osaka, David is now a defendant in a class action suit against the now hollowed out Ftx and its ex-ceo Sam Bankman-Fried.

Nearly a decade after acquiring the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, Steve Ballmer is finally realizing his dream to build a bigger and better TV platform for his beloved basketball franchise.
The Clippers today are launching ClipperVision, a regional subscription streaming service that offers six channel options for watching the vast majority of the team’s home and away games – more than 70 out of 84 regular season games. The service will cost 199 per season and is available largely in Southern California. The service’s first live stream bows Oct. 22. with an away-game against the Sacramento Kings.
One of the six channel feeds will be dedicated to the team’s traditional linear cable TV coverage via Bally Sports. Two more are dedicated to Spanish-language and Korean-language coverage of live games – with the Korean team anchoring from a studio in Seoul.
Another feed is an alternative view of the game — akin to ESPN...

Kim Kardashian will pay 1.26 million and has agreed not to promote any crypto securities for three years to settle charges with the SEC that she didn’t disclose payments for touting assets that were offered and sold by EthereumMX.
Kardashian “agreed to settle the charges, pay 1.26 million in penalties, disgorgement, and interest, and cooperate with the Commission’s ongoing investigation,” the SEC said.
The SEC found that Kardashian failed to disclose that she was paid 250,000 to publish a post on her Instagram account about Emax tokens, the crypto asset security being offered by EthereumMax. Kardashian’s post contained a link to the EthereumMax website, which provided instructions for potential investors to purchase Emax tokens.

Rachel Nichols, a veteran sports TV host whose lengthy ESPN tenure was cut short by controversy, is finally re-emerging in a new on-air home.
She is joining Showtime Basketball, a new content vertical on the Paramount Global premium network, and will contribute to multiple programs and projects. Along with the announcement of her new corporate address, Nichols took part in her first sit-down interview about the circumstances surrounding the ESPN situation.
In 2021, Nichols was removed from The Jump, ESPN’s signature NBA show, and the show was canceled after an audio recording surfaced including comments Nichols, who is white, made about former colleague Maria Taylor, who is Black. Nichols contends that an ESPN staffer recorded her without her knowledge via a remote-video hookup and then supplied the recording to The New York Times. The news outlet framed the audio as evidence of racial insensitivity directed at Taylor. Nichols later settled with the network, but in the interview with All the Smoke, a Showtime video podcast hosted by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Nichols describes what she says were extreme restrictions on her options during and immediately after an internal ESPN investigation into the matter.
In the All the Smoke conversation, Nichols pushed back on the characterization of her exit by The Times and other outlets. She said her contract extension in 2019 had included a stipulation that she would be the studio host for the ESPN/ABC coverage of the NBA Finals on NBA Countdown, which she called “my dream job.” When Taylor was positioned in 2020 to host Countdown instead, Nichols said, “I thought, ‘I have worked so long for this’ … I wanted the chance to do it.” When she vented to a friend about the situation during the bubble environment in Florida in 2020, a colleague cherrypicked material from that conversation.
Nichols, who has developed a specialty in NBA coverage during her 25-year career, will join a roster at Showtime that includes Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jr Smith and Twitter influencer Josiah Johnson.
“We are delighted to welcome Rachel Nichols to the Showtime Basketball family,” said Brian Dailey, SVP Sports Programming & Content at Showtime Networks. “Rachel brings unmatched journalistic credibility, great familiarity with our roster and a work ethic that will take us to another level.”
Nichols created and hosted The Jump from its inception as a daily ESPN show in 2016 to 2021. She has also covered multiple Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, Olympic Games and tennis and golf majors, after nearly a decade writing for the Washington Post. At Turner Sports from 2013-16, she hosted Unguarded with Rachel Nichols on CNN, covered the NBA for TNT, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on CBS and TBS, the MLB playoffs on TBS, the NFL and boxing. During her first stint at ESPN starting in 2004, she covered the NFL, NBA, contributed as a correspondent for E:60 and appeared on SportsCenter.
“I’ve been so fortunate to live my dream job alongside some of the best journalists in the business for more than 25 years, and this new development deal with Showtime Sports gives me my most broad playing field yet,” Nichols said. “They’ve asked me to produce, create and host new sports programming across platforms, working alongside Hall of Famers, multiple guys with championship rings and an uber-creative team behind the camera. Tonight on SNL, Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che weighed in on new allegations made against their “favorite Florida congressman.”
“Matt Gaetz is back in the news. But this time, it’s good,” said Jost. “I’m kidding, it’s still the sex stuff.”
Reportedly, Jost noted, Gaetz—”who looks like all the dudes from American Pie combined”—sent $900 via Venmo to an alleged sex trafficker. Subsequently, the trafficker is said to have forwarded the same amount to young women in payments labeled ‘Tuition’ and ‘School.’
“If true,” Jost joked, “[this] would make him the only congressman actually helping with student loans.”
While Gaetz remains under investigation by the FBI for sex trafficking, Jost was happy to see, at the very least, that the congressman is taking the allegations seriously. “That’s why yesterday, he spoke at the Women For America First summit, which is a nice change,” he said,...

ESPN and Paul Pierce have parted ways, an individual with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap. The news comes a few days after Pierce was seen in an Instagram Live stream that featured the NBA analyst in a room full of exotic dancers.
You can see the video here. It shows Pierce playing poker and smoking with friends in an Instagram Live stream, with strippers dancing behind him. While Pierce did nothing illegal, ESPN’s parent company Disney probably does not want one of its most recognizable on-screen NBA talent showing up in those kind of videos. Unless Pierce and everyone in that room was vaccinated, it also runs afoul of pretty much every kind of Covid-19 protocol.
ESPN declined to comment.
The news of Pierce’s ouster was first reported by Ryan Glasspiegel, a freelance sports reporter. Pierce had been with ESPN since the 2017-18 NBA season, appearing on...

Anheuser-Busch and Panay Films will launch “Not A Sports Show,” a six-episode series that features host and comedian Lil Rel Howery chatting with athletes like former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce, snowboarder Shaun White and Los Angeles Sparks WNBA player Chiney Ogwumike. The program can be watched via Ficto, a free streaming-video service. The show will not be interrupted with beer ads, but the host and his guests hash things out at a bar filled with dozens of A-b beverages, and even drink some of them as their conversations progress. After last night, I don't know who to compare Chris Bosh to: any given soccer player, or Paul Pierce. And the Pierce comparison has nothing to do with his skills on the court. During last night's Miami Heat game in Chicago against the Bulls, Chris Bosh spent a large amount of time guarding Bulls forward Carlos Boozer on defense. Halfway through the second quarter, Boozer was in the post against Bosh. Boozer pivoted in order to face the basket. In the process of his pivot, it looked for a split second as if he may have elbowed Chris Bosh in the face. Our initial reaction was that Bosh was wacked with that big ol' Alaskan elbow of Boozer's, and was knocked to the floor. But after a few replays, it was extremely evident that Boozer Did Not Touch Miami's third wheel.
