The Bachelor and The Bachelorette fans have spent years watching couples fall in love and get engaged on national television. Many proposals have been captured throughout the seasons, and various gorgeous rings have been used. Not all pairings end up making it down the aisle, though. The ones who don’t say “I do” often find themselves contractually obligated to give back their engagement rings, which are gifted to contestants.
Theresa Nist, the winner of the first-ever The Golden Bachelor season, touched on the ring issues briefly during her divorce announcement. So, what happens to all those rings?
Failed relationships lead to returned engagement rings for ‘Bachelor Nation’ contestants
The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have led to epic proposals and dramatic breakups. The producers considered the volatile nature of relationships when creating contracts for the contestants. Over the years, plenty of contestants have been asked about their engagement rings post-breakup.

Inside ‘The Golden Bachelor’ Wedding: Unaired Speeches, Guest Warnings and More You Didn’t See on TV
Bachelor Nation knows a thing or two about a wedding special. They’ve been able to pull it off effortlessly through the years — from Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter’s 2003 nuptials to the most recent “I do” between Kenny Braasch and Mari Pepin, which aired as a part of this season’s “Bachelor in Paradise.”
However, the last time a wedding special aired live was when Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici married in 2014. Ten years later, “The Golden Bachelor” couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist did just that — with all the above individuals in attendance — at the La Quinta Resort and Club just outside Palm Springs, Calif.
Variety, along with a select few other reporters, attended the ceremony and the reception. The special aired on ABC from 8-10 p.m. Et, but guests began arriving (and actually checking in at an event table) about an hour beforehand. To be fair,...

ABC’s first Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner wed Theresa Nist Thursday on a live ABC telecast, with former Bachelor Nation couples and contestants in attendance at the California desert nuptials.

There’s a reason there are almost 30 seasons of The Bachelor. Watching a group of women vying for the final rose — and a sparkly Neil Lane engagement ring — can become addicting. Drama and romance, set in the backdrop of exotic destinations, is candy for the soul.
However, the franchise has begun to earn a reputation for being a stepping stone to becoming Instagram’s next big influencer instead of being on the show “for the right reasons.”
Enter Fox‘s Farmer Wants a Wife. The reality show, adapted from a worldwide hit series, follows four real-life farmers based across the United States. They seek love with women ready to leave the city behind in favor of a more rural lifestyle.
And while on the surface the show looks like The Bachelor’s country chic cousin, there are a few key differences that host Jennifer Nettles says give the farmers a genuine chance to find love.

Perhaps the most coveted 1-on-1 in The Bachelor franchise is the “shopping date,” where the lead showers one lucky woman with gifts. Though this type of date doesn’t occur every year, it pops up quite a bit in the franchise. This season Zach Shallcross took Gabi Elnicki on the coveted shopping date — in London, nonetheless. We’re looking back at shopping dates of years past and how far the contestants who went on them made it on the show.

Star stylist Sam Woolf has been working with Latto only since November, but what a thrilling few months it’s been. Since releasing her second studio album, 777, last March, the best new artist nominee at Sunday’s 2023 Grammys has been riding a wave that could be dubbed “Big Energy,” to borrow from 777‘s hit single, which spent 37 consecutive weeks in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Her record blew up globally and really put her on the map, but she’s still the same easygoing person, so open to ideas and fun to work with,” Woolf says of the Atlanta-born artist, whose real name is Alyssa Michelle Stephens. “For the Grammys, she said she wanted simply to feel really pretty and beautiful. We know pretty could mean a lot of things: princess, sexy, avant-garde. But we already did a more avant-garde look for the [American Music Awards], so we’re going in...

List of Bachelorette couples that are still together. Pic credit: @therachellindsay/Instagram
The Bachelorette has been around for close to a decade.
The premise is the same every season, one woman goes on the Bachelor to find the love of her life. She gets rejected and sometimes cries ugly tears in the limo back to the airport.
Although she didn’t win the Bachelor’s heart, she often wins America’s heart, placing her in the best position to become the next Bachelorette.
Out of heartbreak is born the opportunity to be in control and be the one to hand out the roses. She is then given six weeks to find the man she will marry.
Some people have found lasting love on the show, saying that it’s like going to a love boot camp.
There are no distractions whatsoever and the contestants can truly concentrate on getting to know one another.

Tia Booth's journey to find love has come to an end—with nary a red rose or Neil Lane diamond in sight. The Bachelor Nation star is engaged to her boyfriend Taylor Mock, her manager Paul Desisto confirms to E! News. The proposal took place during The Bachelor Live On Stage event in Atlanta on April 10. As seen in footage shared by fellow Bachelor alum Sydney Lotuaco, Taylor dropped down on one knee on the Fox Theatre stage in the middle of the show, stunning Tia, who yelled out, "Are you kidding me?" Of course, she said yes and the two embraced as the crowd erupted with applause. "Never been more shocked or sure in my life," Tia wrote on Instagram alongside another video...

The Bachelor‘s Clayton loves all three of his final women, of course — but which one does he love the most?
As Tuesday’s season finale begins, he has managed to get back in the good graces of Gabby and Rachel, even after last night’s “rose ceremony from hell,” where they found out he was in love with both of them and was “intimate” with both of them, too. But that’s not enough for him: He still can’t stop thinking about Susie, who walked out on him after hearing what he did with the other two. (Does...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 18 finale of “The Bachelorette,” which aired on ABC on Dec. 21.
“The Bachelorette” wrapped up its 18th season with a franchise-first: the dating series, which premiered nearly two decades ago, had its first Black winning couple.
Leading lady Michelle Young fell in love with Nayte Olukoya, who ended the season with a televised engagement. The couple, very much still together, then sat down for a live TV interview to update America on their relationship progress. The pair are currently house-hunting, which was made easier, thanks to the show gifting them a $200,000 check towards a down payment (in addition to a pricey Neil Lane diamond ring).
“It’s so important,” Young tells Variety, in an interview the day after her TV engagement. “Not only seeing a Black love story, but seeing a healthy Black love story is something that’s really not showcased.

It looks like this season may end with a trip to Neil Lane. The 26th season of The Bachelor hasn't even started, but its leading man, Clayton Echard, is already throwing around the "L" word. In an interview with Good Morning America on Dec. 1, Clayton revealed that this season was a success. "I did find love, and I was a little skeptical going into the whole journey but I'm so pleasantly surprised that things worked out much different than what I had thought," he explained. "I'm just so excited to watch it back and have everyone else watch it as well." Clayton brought more than his good looks and warm personality this season, he also brought a "checklist of...

With those words, Madonna opened the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, which along with her iconic 40-year career as the Queen of Pop, is also celebrating the network’s four-decades-long anniversary.
The pop legend nodded to her own arrival in New York City as a 19-year-old with an opening segment. “I told the taxi driver tp take me to the center of it all,” says Madonna in a voice over while riding the cab to Times Square. “I came to New York City with nothing but 35 dollars and a pair of dance shoes. … I was 19 and terrified.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Aug. 9 season finale of “The Bachelorette.”
Katie Thurston’s reign as “The Bachelorette” has come to an end. During Monday’s three-hour finale, Katie walked away engaged to Blake Moynes.
But the path to engagement was less than smooth. Viewers last saw the Season 17 lead locked in the bathroom on the heels of her breakup with former front-runner Greg Grippo. The two exchanged a heated (and controversial) split during the penultimate episode, which left her with two finalists: now-fiancé Blake and Justin Glaze.
The finale episode jumped back and forth between present-day reactions and the finale production events in New Mexico. After introductions and a season recap by hosts Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams, viewers reunited with Katie in tears in New Mexico. The playback was followed by her present-day reflection, where she reacted to her exchange with Greg.

The compelling, controversial and chaotic 25th season of “The Bachelor” came to a startling end as Matt James offered a non-proposal, which led into an awkward “After the Final Rose.”
At the outset, Matt contemplated his final week with Michelle Young and Rachael Kirkconnell. He said Michelle checks off a lot of boxes, but Rachael pushed him to tap into his emotions. Meeting with his mother Patty and brother John, he reminded them that he did indeed sign up to not only find a wife but to be ultimately engaged. He also felt confident in the decisions he had made thus far. “It’s exciting to see you so animated, happy and expressive” Patty said. “I can’t wait to meet the girls.” Patty felt it was a “long shot” Matt would be engaged at the end of the competition, but she still vowed to offer her opinion while trusting...

Reality host Chris Harrison coined the phrase “the most dramatic season ever,” but nothing has been more dramatic than the tension escalating off-screen during this season of “The Bachelor.”
Season 25 — featuring the franchise’s first-ever Black star — culminated in such a way that even the most twisted producers could have never imagined.
Following a racist scandal that exploded due to contestant Rachael Kirkconnell’s resurfaced social media photos, it was none other Kirkconnell who ended up winning Matt James’ heart.
Before the titular Bachelor gave out his final rose, he spent his last days at the Nemacolin resort vetting each relationship. He was joined by his mom, Patty Cuculo James, and brother, John James, to meet his final contestants.
Finalist Michelle Young joined the family first, where she was quickly embraced for her fun and joyful demeanor.

It’s a Bachelor scenario more predictable than a Neil Lane engagement ring on finale night: The longer a season of the ABC dating series runs, the more time its cast members will have to completely let us down.
In recent years, social media users have done the work that the Bachelor franchise’s casting department should be doing, uncovering contestants’ problematic pasts with just a few scrolls and swipes. Almost like clockwork, a Bachelor(/ette) season is interrupted by the news that, say, Garrett Yrigoyen liked a slew of bigoted memes on Instagram, or Eazy Nwachukwu was accused of sexual assault — or,...

With a few notable exceptions, Bachelor Nation couples tend to offer fairly staid reasons for why their relationship wilted. As they're busily shipping off that Neil Lane diamond and hashing out who gets custody of Chris Harrison in the breakup, the once madly in love duos craft statements about their mutual decision to separate and the deep admiration they still hold for each other. “The Bachelorette” Tayshia Adams picks you, Zac Clark.
On Tuesday’s Season 16 finale for the ABC dating competition, Clark proposed and Adams said “yes.” More specifically, she said “yes a thousand times.”
She also spoke about being “ready to hail a taxi,” a reference to her moving to Zac’s native New York City. We’ve got some bad news for Adams: 1) No one takes cabs anymore, it’s all Ubers and Lyfts and you hail those through an app. It’s all much easier actually. And 2) You definitely don’t want to get in anyone’s ride-share these days — especially in New York City, which was ravaged by Covid-19 this spring.
Anyway, there was a whole bunch of hugging and kissing and crying. Tayshia technically got the Neil Lane engagement ring before Zac even got the final rose. They still had to go through those motions — it’s like...

We have to give it to Chris Harrison, he wasn't exaggerating when he called this season of The Bachelorette one of the most dramatic installments ever. From Clare's tumultuous reign before she secured an engagement to Dale Moss and passed the crown on to Tayshia Adams, to pretty much every moment of Tayshia's half of the season, it's been a wild ride. On the Dec. 22 episode, Tayshia finally handed out her final rose, deciding she wanted to spend the rest of her life with runner Zac Clark.
The finale picked up right where the penultimate episode ended, with Brendan having sent himself home and Ben making a return after he had been sent home by Tayshia the week before. Fantasy suites provided the emotional, romantic foundation for Part 1 of “The Bachelorette” season finale, which initially found Tayshia Adams excited yet stressed about what would transpire as her relationships with Brendan, Ivan and Zac grew more intimate.

We're one episode away from the final leg of Tayshia Adams's journey on The Bachelorette and the surprises never stop coming. During Monday night's episode, Tayshia went on her Fantasy Suite dates with her final three suitors: Ivan, Brendan, and Zac. Each date was seemingly tailored for each man, yet Brendan's was decidedly not what the commercial roofer was expecting! Ivan broke a world record for the longest and coldest kiss, Zac got to make art with his body, and Brendan went jewelry shopping with Neil Lane himself!
If you're thinking that one of these dates is definitely not like the others, you're not wrong. While Ivan and Zac got a lovely experience for their final dates, Tayshia took Brendan to meet with Neil who showed the pair diamond bracelets and wedding bands, and discussed the seriousness of holy matrimony. Though Clare broke the hearts of a few men on her journey to love, she happily passed the Bachelorette torch to Tayshia Adams, and is very ready to be "Clare Moss."
From the first-impression rose to now, these two have gotten their happy ending. Congrats to the happy couple!

Neil Lane is as much of a Bachelor Nation fixture as host Chris Harrison. In a number of seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, the jeweler has provided a selection of engagement rings to propose with at the end of the show. Though in Clare Crawley and Dale Moss's case this season, the proposal didn't exactly come at the end of the show - it was more like the beginning. Nevertheless, Neil supplied the engagement ring for Dale to get down on one knee and propose to bachelorette Clare.
The real question is: Is someone paying for these rings? Neil's gorgeous diamond engagement rings range in price from a somewhat affordable $15,000 to well over $100,000, which makes you wonder who is footing the bill for this each season. Is it ABC? Is it part of the production cost for the show? Certainly the contestants on the show aren't expected to pay these prices.
