Actor Joe Don Baker has reportedly passed away at the age of 89. And while fans will no doubt remember him for his work in films like Walking Tall, Fletch and Martin Scorsese’s remake of Cape Fear, for others, the role he’ll always be most closely associated with is Mitchell. From the movie Mitchell. Was that his first or last name? We may never know.
The 1975 flick was a piece of forgettable low-budget schlock about a schlubby police detective whose disregard for the rules is equaled by his love of terrible sport jackets.
There would be no reason for anyone who wasn’t a projectionist for a scuzzy movie theater in 1975 to remember Mitchell, if not for the fact that it was the subject of a very memorable episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Audiences these days have truly grown to love the terrifying presence of horror in their holidays. Whether it be Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, the Yuletide season, or even St. Patrick's Day, the number of holiday-themed horror movies has increased over the past few decades. Despite its growing popularity, though, it was a controversial theme back then. In fact, when Silent Night, Deadly Night hit theaters in 1984, a conservative group of parents found the feature offensive for tarnishing the image of their beloved Saint Nick. But that’s not to say the movie hasn’t had its brighter days; it has even found its rightful viewers several years later and is now deemed a cult classic. Now, with the movie confirmed to be receiving a modern reboot, Deadline has unveiled the first image of Rohan Campbell as the new Billy Chapman — a role first played by Robert Brian Wilson.

Four years have gone by since we heard that Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios, the folks behind Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, were going to be making a reboot of the classic Christmas slasher movie Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here), and while those plans didn’t work out and Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios are no longer involved, a remake is still moving forward. Last November, we learned that the film will be coming our way from Cineverse, the company behind the Terrifier franchise, with writer/director Mike P. Nelson at the helm. A couple of months ago, Sixth Dimension, the new in-house genre label at Studiocanal, picked up the global rights (excluding North America) to the project. And now, Deadline has confirmed that the remake has officially started filming – and they even unveiled the first image, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.

There's a new creature feature to keep an eye on, and no, it's not the upcoming Anaconda reboot. However, that one should definitely be on your radar too! It's another giant snake horror movie called Titan, and Lionsgate has just obtained the rights to distribute the film in the United States.
We first learned of this movie back in February 2024. Resident Evil producers Constantin Film and Jb Pictures were revealed to be behind the project with Mike P. Nelson as director. Nelson had also signed on to co-write the script with Alan B. McElroy. We later learned that Tony Giglio (Doom: Annihilation) would also be helping write the script. In addition, Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film and Jeremy Bolt of Jb Pictures serve as producers. Executive producers include Sam Hall and Michael Rothstein for north.five.six.
Talented actresses Kiana Madeira and Jessica Rothe lead the cast. Both are modern scream queens.

“Titan” is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna.” This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes with the group to reclaim the jungle. What follows is a fight for survival in which the roles of hunter, prey and hero become unpredictable.
The film is written by Tony Giglio and Alan McElroy.

Angels on top of a fir tree, jolly Santa Claus coming down the chimney, delicious cookies baking in the oven, jaunty carols on the radio. When someone thinks of the holidays, their mind likely jumps to these wholesome memories and images. Horror fans, however, may associate the holidays with their favorite Christmas horror movies and decking the halls with blood splatter and gore.
From Krampus to Better Watch Out, the best Christmas horror movies take the warm and fuzziness of the holiday season and turn them dark and horrific. There are many fantastically festive movies in the genre, but perhaps no film has tainted the holidays quite as much as the recently released, Terrifier 3.

Some fun, holiday-centric news from Deadline today, Cineverse will be taking another stab at the Christmas slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night! Cineverse is best known for distributing Terrifier 3, another Christmas horror movie released this past October and made bank at the box office.
Now, the entertainment company has acquired the global rights to a reimagining of the 1984 cult film from director Charles E. Sellier Jr. Following a traumatized young man named Billy Chapman, Silent Night, Deadly Night follows him into his adulthood where he clothes himself in a Santa Claus suit and goes on a killing spree inspired by witnessing something similar as a child when a man in a Santa outfit murdered his parents. As a result, Billy was sent to an abusive orphanage that only furthered his eventual breakdown and transformation into a killer.

The Christmas carnage on display in Terrifier 3 will continue next year thanks to Brad Miska and Brandon Hill from Cineverse, who are overseeing the newly announced reimagining of one of the most infamous holiday horror films in history: Silent Night, Deadly Night. Released in 1984 by TriStar Pictures, the horror flick featured Robert Brian Wilson in the role of Billy, a young adult who when just a child witnessed the murder of his parents by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Hes placed in an orphanage, taught that punishment is good, and grows up to become the very thing that traumatized him. The '80s were great, werent they?
Per Deadline, the reboot of Silent Night, Deadly Night is being written and directed by Mike P. Nelson, with original producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead also along for the ride. Miska and Hill will supervise things on Cineverses end, who...

A divisive Christmas horror movie from the 1980s is getting a second remake. The biggest horror remake boom occured in the 2000s, when a bevy of iconic horror titles were rebooted including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, The House on Sorority Row and more. However, remakes have been produced throughout horror history, including the prominent 1980s examples The Thing and The Blob, and the tradition has continued into the modern era with titles including 2020's The Invisible Man, 2022's Firestarter, and 2024's Salem's Lot.
Christmas horror movies are another longstanding tradition of the genre, as many filmmakers have found unique ways to blend the wholesome iconography of the season with bloody murder and mayhem, creating an unsettling juxtaposition. One of the most famous is Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher Black Christmas, which itself has been remade twice,...

One of the most unique franchises to emerge in the last fifteen years, V/H/S feels like an indefinite horror franchise. After enough of the filmmakers broke through in the mainstream, other emerging voices have been eager to add their names to the franchise. Like Punk Goes Pop or And1 Mixtape for horror, the series has become a scouting ground for the next great horror filmmakers. With the arrival of V/H/S/Beyond, we’re ranking the films of the franchise. Within each, we also do a mini-ranking of the shorts, so keep an eye out for your favorite shorts.
7. V/H/S: Viral (2014)
While there are moments of Viral that stand out to this day, the overall style and stories rarely live up to the premise. Outside of this franchise, some segments would feel like a great little horror entry, but when the footage does not make sense as something that might come from a VHS,...

Marci Miller was a long-time cast member of Days of Our Lives and though she was thought to be dead, there's now a real chance the actor and her character will return to the series. One of the longest-running TV shows ever, Days of Our Lives has been detailing the ongoing betrayals, romances, friendships, and disasters between the Brady and Horton families in Salem, Illinois since 1965. In that time, there have been literally dozens of characters to come through the show, with some lasting decades and others lasting less than a season.
Days of Our Lives has already seen its fair share of cast shakeups in 2024 and even more could be coming in the form of Marci Miller, who was on the show as Abigail Dimera from 2016-2018, and 2020-2022. Any horror franchise that sticks around for more than a handful of entries becomes an institution by default. And few long-running horror franchises have provided genre fans with such a rollercoaster as "V/H/S," perhaps because each movie in the series feels like an unpredictable theme park ride in its own sick, twisted, ambitious way.
The first "V/H/S" film, released in 2012, laid out the endlessly adaptable format: a horror anthology consisting of "found footage" shorts, each of them directed by a different filmmaker, with only a thin (if that) thread connecting them all. Really, each "V/H/S" segment is an excuse for a director to cut loose, to run wild, and to tell a brisk, violent, sometimes funny and sometimes disturbing tale of terror. The only real rule is that it has to be found footage, but even that is malleable. Stories in the series are told from camcorders, GoPros,...

Longtime communications executive Mike Nelson is leaving his post as SVP Communications for CBS News, Stations and Media Ventures.
Nelson, beloved among trade journalists, has held his current title since January. He joined CBS L.A. in 2002 after spending seven years at NBC, where he served as its chief ratings guru.

At the same time, Mike relished in serving as a utility player across all parts of CBS, sharing his considerable media and writing skills wherever they were needed. The only thing we ever questioned about Mike was who he loved more … CBS or his home-state Green Bay Packers.”

The MonsterVerse has, somewhat quietly, become one of the most reliable franchises going in Hollywood at the moment. For a full decade dating back to 2014's "Godzilla" right up through this year's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," these films have built up a loyal audience with no signs of fatigue on the part of the viewers. While Warner Bros. and Legendary are quickly looking to get a new installment going, they will need a new director, as we recently learned that Adam Wingard will not be returning to the helm. So, who should take his place?
Wingard is the only filmmaker to direct two MonsterVerse installments, having helmed 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" as well as "The New Empire," which now ranks as the highest-grossing "Godzilla" movie ever. So sure, the studio would probably have liked him to return, but he's busy with other projects. Besides, that just opens the...

After exploring the 90s in the previous two entries, V/H/S/85, the sixth(!) entry in the V/H/S franchise, throws things back to the decade where VHS ruled the roost – once again using the found-footage format to tell a handful of spooky stories from directors David Bruckner, Scott Derrickson, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Natasha Kermani, and Mike P. Nelson.
After a brief flick through 80s television, replete with a pause on an Unsolved Mysteries-style show called Total Copy, which tells the story of Rory a test subject at Stamer University, to open proceedings. A show that the film returns to throughout its running time before wrapping things up in traditional anthology fashion and revealing Rory’s connection to the shorts we’ve just watched.

After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!
The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.
The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

“It’s the ’80s, do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Regan!” That song may be an all-time classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 riff from the Gremlins rip-off Hobgoblins, but one might find themselves also singing that ditty more and more often when watching TV and movies.
Stranger Things, Totally Killer, It, and even parts of Loki’s second season take us back to the 1980s, filling the screen with neon clothes, Dungeons & Dragons references, and so much punk and synth-pop.
It’s easy to see why the ’80s would get attention in the past decade, as kids of that era have grown to be the adults with buying power (such as it is) and control over media franchises. However, ’80s nostalgia has become bankrupt even quicker than previous versions, precisely because of its thin and disinterested look at the target decade.

V/H/S/85 reinvigorates the franchise by going back to the '80s, capturing the authentic aesthetic and subverting horror movie tropes. "No Wake" delivers what fans want in a nostalgic slasher trip, with grainy footage, rowdy friends, and unexpected kills. "Ambrosia" relies on '80s horror knowledge and clever storytelling to reveal a family tradition of murder, showcasing the indulgent combination of violence, sex, and comedy that defined the era.
V/H/S was found in the dilapidated house of a creepy old man in 2012 and has grown a following in the horror community as the series of films continued to grow. Being anthologies, not every entry is going to be a winner, but fans became worried by the time V/H/S/99 was released and was noticeably lacking in most areas that had made the films a success. This September, the newest entry in the franchise, V/H/S/85, reinvigorated the franchise that fans were worried...

Written by Gigi Saul Guerrero, Mike P. Nelson, Zoe Cooper, Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, Evan Dickson | Directed by David Bruckner, Scott Derrickson, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Natasha Kermani, Mike P. Nelson
