World Cup Qatar 2022 might be making headlines for all the wrong reasons — including alleged human rights violations — but the tournament is pushing ahead with its Nov. 20 start date, when the host squad will face off against Ecuador. Ahead of that opening tie, FIFA 23 has launched its World Cup mode as well as a new Path to Glory promo in Ultimate Team.
While the traditional tournament mode is pretty straightforward, including a World Cup Live match type that allows you to play past or current fixtures as the real-world cup progresses, Path to Glory requires a little more explanation for those new to Fut.
Here’s what you need to know about Path to Glory, including the Team 2 cards released by EA Sports ahead of the start of Qatar 2022:

Caretaker manager Stuart Pearce takes charge of his first England match tonight for the international friendly against Holland at Wembley Stadium. The match has a 7.45pm kick-off and will be screened live in the UK on ITV 1.
Team news ahead of tonight’s game…
Pearce has chosen Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker to captain the side, replacing Chelsea’s John Terry who was stripped of the role by the Fa earlier this month. This was of course the decision that Capello’s public disagreement of cost him his job as manager and his resignation just days later was accepted by the Fa.
Obviously Parker will center the midfield tonight, possibly alongside Steven Gerrard who was snubbed for the captaincy or Gareth Barry.
Pearce will be unable to call upon Wayne Rooney (throat infection), Aston Villa’s Darren Bent (ruptured ankle ligaments) for his attack line with Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge...

Last Friday saw the first Fa Cup fixture of 2012 being played out between Liverpool and Oldham Athletic at Anfield. The home team understandably the favourites of the tie, expected to ease past their League One counterparts, and that they did, eventually. It was a match where the football and achievements of the game itself were completely overshadowed by one petty incident involving a 20-year-old fan and a 20-year-old player. The Reds went into the fixture with the news of Luis Suarez being banned for 8 games, for allegedly racially abusing Patrice Evra, still fresh on their minds. Three days before the third round cup tie, Liverpool played Manchester City away in the Premier League, losing 3-0. The Anfield outfit had decided not to appeal against Suarez’s ban, choosing to put the case to bed and to move on. This decision meant the...

Liverpool secured a valuable win at Stamford Bridge as they defeated Chelsea 2-1. Maxi Rodriguez took the lead for the visitors before Daniel Sturridge levelled the scores. Glen Johnson was the hero though as he secured the three points with a fantastic solo effort late on in the game. A goal good enough to win any game – it gave the Reds the edge in this tight affair.
Unless you’re Irish or read a huge amount into England’s win over Spain (which was quite remarkable but don’t forget the Spaniards also drew with Costa Rica during the break), the last two weeks have been rather uneventful for fans of competitive football. We’d be happy to see anyone playing in the four ‘o’ clock Super Sunday slot, but Chelsea against Liverpool was exactly the kind of fix any self-respecting footy addict was dying for. This match was bound...

After only gaining one point on the road previous to their trip to Anfield, Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm made sure that there would be another point gained this time around after pulling off a string of spectacular saves late in the match in what was a very entertaining nil-nil draw.
Liverpool started the tie very brightly with an attack that should’ve put Liverpool one ahead after just seven minutes. Charlie Adam had played a beautifully weighted pass to Stewart Downing that cut open Swansea’s defence on the left hand side and swung the ball in to Andy Carroll who smashed the ball into the crossbar when the £35 million man really should’ve converted the chance.
There were a flurry of chances for Liverpool after Carroll’s effort was denied by the frame of the goal. Luis Suarez and Stewart Downing both attempted to test Michel Vorm but their chances were both off target.

Stoke host Liverpool for the second time in under two months
Liverpool have the chance to get their own back on Stoke City tonight in the League Cup fourth round, for September’s 1-0 defeat in the league.
The two Premier League clubs will meet for the second time at the Britannia Stadium in less than two months, where the home side scraped a narrow victory, courtesy of a Jonathan Walters penalty. Many would too easily label this game as an away win, however, the stats would say otherwise. The Potters have lost only one of seven of their last League Cup home games and have found themselves featuring in the fourth round for the fourth season running. Their more high profile opponents have a very different story to tell, as the team from Merseyside are aiming to reach the last eight for the first time in four seasons and...

Honours even in the North West Derby as United strike late on to rescue a point at Anfield.
Manchester United’s unbeaten start remains intact thanks to a headed equaliser from Javier Hernandez, who came off the bench to salvage a point against Liverpool.
United were trailing thanks to Steven Gerrard’s 68th minute free-kick, that squeezed through a gap in the wall left by the experienced Ryan Giggs. It was the perfect way to mark a come back for the Liverpool skipper, after coming back from a groin injury, it was his first start since playing United at Anfield in March.
Liverpool may be left feeling disappointed after creating more chances to win the game than the visiting champions and one player in particular, Jordan Henderson, will have felt he could have won the game for the Reds on two occasions, but for expert goalkeeping by David De Gea.

Finally, after waiting all summer for summer to arrive, it does. In October. If someone can explain this ‘Indian Summer’ term that’s bandied about, I’d gladly listen. There’s a time and a place for warm weather, and that place is called ‘on holiday’. Whoever claims that sunshine and heat make for ‘glorious’ conditions in which to enjoy football, is sorely mistaken.
Looking across the terraces, a sea of shaven heads red and dripping with sweat while trains and buses across the land are packed full of humanity at it’s clammiest, all accompanied with a scent that suggests antiperspirant has gone out of fashion.
In short, hot weather isn’t nice, it’s bloody horrible may it soon piss off so we can welcome back big jumpers, naked trees and rainy afternoons. Lunging tackles and match postponements, much more my cup of tea.
As not to buck...

The Merseyside Derby will be a tough tackling game
Liverpool will travel across Stanley Park to face their local rivals Everton at lunchtime today live on Sky Sports, in what is English football’s most played fixture.
The game at Goodison Park will be the 216th in all competitions between the two neighbouring teams and promises to be a fast paced, heavy tackling affair. Everton, who have the home crowd advantage, will be looking for a third successive Merseyside derby without defeat, as they picked up a 2-0 win in this same fixture last season and also managed a 2-2 draw at Anfield. The Toffees have only lost one home game in the Premier League since November and the Reds haven’t won an away game outside of London since March.
Although being strong in front of their own fans, David Moyes’ men lost their first game of the season...

Goals from Luka Modric, Jermaine Defoe and two from Emmanuel Adebayor helped Tottenham to an easy win over Liverpool after the Reds found themselves down to nine men for the last half hour. It was billed as an exciting, even game but Spurs took Dalglish’s men by storm and the misery was compounded with the dismissals of Charlie Adam in the first half and Martin Skrtel in the second. Brad Friedel didn’t have a save to make for the hosts as Redknapp’s men ran riot, peppering Reina’s goal with shots throughout, the 4-0 scoreline didn’t flatter them.
Tottenham welcomed Liverpool to White Hart Lane for what promised to be an entertaining game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Paok. Their opponents were looking to improve after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Stoke. Spurs have enjoyed hosting this fixture in recent years, winning the...

White Hart Lane has proved to be a difficult venue for Liverpool over the years, with the Reds losing their last four visits to N17 and last winning there in May 2008. As Spurs picked up their first three points of the season at Wolves last weekend, Liverpool sunk to a 1-0 defeat to Stoke, although arguably being the better side.
The two teams will be aiming for that illusive fourth spot and be hoping for Champions League football next season. They meet on Sunday, with the home advantage being Tottenham’s. Harry Redknapp rested key men in their Europa League fixture against Paok on Thurday, including Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Emmanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker, showing that this is an extremely important game. Kenny Dalglish’s team will be looking to bounce back with a win, as Spurs’ hidings from both Manchester teams were slightly redeemed last weekend and they...

According to Sky Sports News, and a source close to the Welsh Fa, Craig Bellamy has been given permission to leave the Wales International training camp to head up to Liverpool’s Melwood training complex for talks with Kenny Dalglish over a possible move from Manchester City.
The Welsh attacker, formerly at Norwich, Coventry City, Newcastle United, Celtic, Blackburn, Liverpool, West Ham, and Cardiff City player is available on a free transfer, and would represent a coup for any club who take the chance on him.
With Sergio Aguero, goal machine Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez all ahead of him in the pecking order at Eastlands, Bellamy was always going to struggle to get any playing time this season, and it looks like his likely destination isn’t going to be Qpr or Stoke as suggested earlier in the day, but the slightly shocking choice of Anfield.
