Due Justice is the latest film in the never-ending line of Taken wannabes where a former badass has to go back into action to rescue their kidnapped daughter. In this case, it’s Max an attorney who, along with his boss Claire are lawyers celebrating winning their latest case when Max hears a familiar voice from across the restaurant.
It’s his brother Jerry who isn’t happy to see him, probably due to the company he’s dining with. As it turns out, Jerry was undercover for the FBI and that meeting triggered the suspicion of Ellis, Roxy and their crew. It’s not long before both Jerry and Max’s wife are dead, and his daughter abducted while he’s at the office working late.

"You tell me where my money is, and I'll return your daughter to you" Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller titled Due Justice, both written and directed by filmmaker Javier Reyna. Yet another of these junk action films getting dumped out on VOD, way too many of them this year. If that title wasn't a hint already, this is obviously about a guy getting "due justice" by going for revenge and going after the people who harmed him. Of course. A very American story. An attorney with a military past hunts down the gang who killed his wife and brother and took his daughter. Filled with shady characters and the Feds and all the usuals. Due Justice stars Kellan Lutz, Jeff Fahey, & Efren Ramirez, with Cynthia Geary, Manu Intiraymi, Chelsea Lopez, and David Jofre. Yeah this movie looks as uninteresting as it sounds. // Continue Reading...

Rob Schroeder’s sci-fi-tinged debut feature nests a lot of plots inside but doesn’t really add them up
A nocturnal traveller caught in a freaky menage a trois; an isolated mistress to a powerful senator; a technician in an experimental facility who seems to feed lines to characters in the other dramas. Rob Schroeder’s sci-fi-tinged feature debut expends much effort arranging these nested realities in a furiously scrambled film that makes you feel like you’re the test subject in Inception’s dream machine – and one who’s sniffed a few tubes of Bostik before bedtime. It’s a brave storyteller’s gambit, but there’s something finally underwhelming and convoluted about Ultrasound once it deigns to join the dots.

Now available on DVD and On Demand from Magnolia Home Entertainment (via their Magnet label), we have an exclusive bonus feature clip from Ultrasound!
"Driving home late at night during a heavy rainstorm, Glen experiences car trouble. Near where his car gets stuck, he spots a house, knocks on the door and is greeted by an oddly friendly middle-aged man, Arthur, and his younger wife, Cyndi. The strange couple pours him a drink, and then more drinks, followed by an unexpected offer that Glen can’t refuse. Elsewhere, a young woman, Katie, is feeling emotionally weighed down by a secret romantic arrangement that feels like a textbook case of gaslighting. And at the same time, in a nondescript research facility, medical professional Shannon begins questioning her role in a bizarre experiment, fearing that she’s doing more harm than good."

"We are doing true good here, Shannon, don't lose sight of that." Magnolia Pictures has revealed the first trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Ultrasound, made by producer Rob Schroeder making his feature directorial debut. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and it also played at the Fantasia Film Festival last fall. The synopsis is incredibly vague: After his car breaks down, Glen spends one hell of an odd night with a married couple, setting into motion a chain of events that alter their lives... "Brilliantly constructed and meticulously detailed, [the film] gradually destabilizes the viewer's processing of the reality it presents, with a control that is as uncommon as it is remarkable... Textured with all kinds of clever subtleties, the film plays with its audience in revealing its mysteries, always keeping several steps ahead." Starring Vincent Kartheiser, Chelsea Lopez, Breeda Wool Tunde Adebimpe, Chris Gartin, plus Rainey Qualley. From...

Exclusive: Magnet Releasing has acquired worldwide rights to Ultrasound, the first narrative feature from director Rob Schroeder, with plans to release it in theaters next year.
The sci-fi thriller follows Glen (Vincent Kartheiser), who is stranded by two flat tires on a rainy night and must seek help at a nearby house. There, he’s welcomed in by Art (Bob Stephenson), who cajoles him into sleeping with his younger wife Cyndi (Chelsea Lopez). Glen’s unease only escalates when, a short time later, the consequences of this strange night begin to spiral out of control. Glen and Cyndi soon find themselves at the center of a web of deception and manipulation that tests the foundations of reality.
Ultrasound made its world premiere at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and recently went on to screen at Fantasia Fest, where it won the Silver Audience Award.

The 2021 Fantasia Film Festival wrapped a little over a week ago now, and today I’ve got a pair of reviews on tap from the fest that feature two truly audacious genre-bending projects that I highly recommend fans keep an eye out for in the coming months. So, read on to check out my thoughts on Phil Tippett’s stop-motion masterpiece Mad God and the twisty-turny sci-fi thriller Ultrasound from Rob Schroeder.
Mad God: A film 30 years in the making, Phil Tippett’s Mad God is truly a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience that I’d liken to meeting the maniacal and menacing love child of Ray Harryhausen, Hieronymus Bosch, and The City of Lost Children. Like an esoteric descent into the deepest, darkest pits of hell, Mad God is a haunting journey highlighting the atrocities of war, the drain of capitalism, and the danger of politics as it follows a...

Earlier this month, filmmaker Rob Schroeder celebrated the world premiere of Ultrasound, his mystery box debut feature that follows a series of interweaving stories that play around with viewers’ perceptions and expectations at every turn, and is based on Conor Stechschulte’s graphic novel series Generous Bosom.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to chat with Schroeder as well as with two of Ultrasound’s co-stars—Chelsea Lopez and Breeda Wool—about their experiences working on this project together, and they discussed their responses to Stechschulte’s story and concepts, how Ultrasound parlays into today’s issues, and more.

There’s a limit to how long a movie can mess with viewers’ minds, and “Ultrasound” eventually crosses that threshold. A thriller whose discomforting early going provides few clues to the head-spinning madness lying in wait, director Rob Schroeder’s feature debut channels a host of acclaimed masters while attempting to craft a uniquely beguiling dreamscape in which nothing is as it appears. , although the reward for such perseverance isn’t enough to make up for its prior, aggravating puzzle-box obliqueness.

"You've been a little... disconnected lately." Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for a film titled Blue, an indie dramedy made by the wife and wife duo Gabriela Ledesma & Callie Schuttera. The two co-wrote the screenplay together, while Ledesma directs and Schuttera plays a character based on Gabriela's own experiences earlier in life. Based on true events, a young woman struggles to piece her world together after a botched suicide attempt. The film has a bit of dark humor, presenting a raw and honest look at the struggles of life and how hard it is to keep it all together. Starring Callie Schuttera, Shaw Jones, Judith Scott, Laura Harrison, Chelsea Lopez, Johnny Loquasto, Jennifer Daly, Todd Stroik, Aubrey Manning, and Vanessa Sawson. This probably won't connect with everyone but it's worth a look anyway. Here's the official Us trailer (+ new poster) for Gabriela Ledesma's Blue, direct from YouTube:...

February has been a busy month, as there have been a ton of indie genre offerings coming out each and every week, and I had a chance to check out a trio of recent titles: The Cured from Irish filmmaker David Freyne, the quirky romance/body horror hybrid Are We Not Cats, and Derek Nguyen’s gothic romance, The Housemaid.
The Cured: Right from the start, it is evident that writer/director David Freyne wasn’t looking to make a typical zombie movie, as The Cured begins its story at a juncture where most filmmakers never venture: a deadly zombie outbreak has been curbed after a cure has been discovered, and those no longer afflicted by the disease are able to rejoin the general population. Of course, this causes a myriad of problems, as society doesn’t exactly welcome the former flesh eaters back with open arms, causing a deep...

Adapted from a short film of the same name, Are We Not Cats is a surprising and bold piece of filmmaking by director Xander Robin. It tells the story of a young man, Eliezer (Michael Patrick Nicholson), who is swiftly going nowhere, especially when he loses his job and girlfriend -- and his happy Russian immigrant parents decide to sell everything and move to Arizona. He is gifted his father's truck, in which he must now live, and promptly gets a gig delivering a big engine to upstate New York. While there, he's invited by hothead, druggie, and abusive dude Kyle (Michael Godere, who really sells it) to a local underground music night and meets Anya (the terrific Chelsea Lopez). Eliezer quickly becomes enamored of...

This first premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in 2016 but hasn't really made any kind of impact, despite playing at numerous other festivals. The film is about a man who, after losing his job, his girlfriend, and his apartment in a single day, attempts to restart his life, until he meets a woman who shares his strange habit - eating hair. You're not alone if that makes you gag just reading that sentence, but the trailer is something else entirely. Starring Michael Patrick Nicholson, Chelsea Lopez, and Michael Godere. It may not be wholly revolutionary in both its approach and the material it explores, but Phoenix Forgotten was a lot more fun than a lot of folks might give it credit for, and it completely took me back to my high school days of being obsessed with The X-Files, science fiction, and the question of whether or not we are truly alone in this universe. Phoenix Forgotten does an admirable job of blending fact and fiction, and while there was one plot point that I felt was a little “too convenient,” overall, co-writer/director Justin Barber crafts an intriguing sci-fi-fueled mystery that hooked me from the very beginning. It may not make my list of favorite movies from this year, but Phoenix Forgotten was still an entertaining time nonetheless.

Arriving in theaters this weekend is Phoenix Forgotten, a docu-style sci-fi film co-written and directed by Justin Barber. The film is centered around the Phoenix Lights phenomenon, a weird occurrence that happened back in 1997 which has yet to be explained over 20 years later. Barber’s project interjects a little fiction into the mix, as Phoenix Forgotten is focused on three missing teens who went out searching for the truth behind the mysterious lights that appeared, only to never be heard from again.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Barber, and after we finished geeking out over ’90s sci-fi, we chatted about his experiences working on the project with both his co-writer T.S. Nowlin and his cast (Luke Spencer Roberts, Chelsea Lopez, and Justin Matthews), how his career thus far has prepared him for his very first time helming a narrative feature, and more. Look for Phoenix Forgotten in Us theaters this weekend.

"For decades they've been lying to you." Cinelou Films has released a final trailer for sci-fi horror found footage film Phoenix Forgotten, which is set to open in select theaters later this month (on April 21st). We already featured one teaser trailer for this film previously, as it's a very mysterious found footage feature "based on true events" about kids who go to investigate mysterious lights of Phoenix, Arizona and end up disappearing. It's kind of like The Blair Witch Project, but for UFOs and aliens and something like that. The "unseen footage has finally been discovered, chronicling the final hours of their fateful expedition." The cast includes Florence Hartigan, Chelsea Lopez, Justin Matthews, Luke Spencer Roberts; with Wes Ball, T.S. Nowlin, Ridley Scott, Mark Canton, and Courtney Solomon producing. A new trailer has surfaced for the upcoming UFO "found footage" thriller Phoenix Forgotten. The film is being produced by Ridley Scott, which is interesting because I never thought I'd see him get involved with a "found footage" film like this. There's obviously something he saw in the movie that attracted him to it, though.
The film is based on the true-life events that occurred on March 13th, 1997 when several mysterious lights appeared over Phoenix, Arizona. The event is known as "The Phoenix Lights," and it's one of the most famous and massive UFO sightings in history.
The movie basically looks like The Blair Witch Project but with students on the hunt for UFOs instead of an evil witch.
Phoenix Forgotten tells the story of three teens who went into the desert shortly after the incident, hoping to document the strange events occurring in their town. They disappeared that night,...

"I shouldn't have brought you guys out here." Cinelou Releasing & Freestyle Releasing have unveiled the first trailer for a mysterious, eerie sci-fi horror film titled Phoenix Forgotten, about a group of kids who disappeared from Phoenix, Arizona in 1997. The film is being billed as a Blair Witch-esque found footage thriller about these kids who went into the desert on the night lights were seen above Phoenix. The "unseen footage has finally been discovered, chronicling the final hours of their fateful expedition." The cast includes Florence Hartigan, Chelsea Lopez, Justin Matthews, Luke Spencer Roberts; with Wes Ball, T.S. Nowlin, Ridley Scott, Mark Canton, and Courtney Solomon producing. This definitely looks creepy, and it definitely looks like they want to replicate the Blair Witch concept, but with aliens in Arizona. Have a look. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Justin Barber's Phoenix Forgotten, direct from YouTube: Based on the shocking,...

On March 13th, 1997, several mysterious lights appeared over Phoenix, Arizona. The event is known as "The Phoenix Lights," and it's one of the most famous and massive UFO sightings in history. This event serves as the inspiration for the found footage movie Phoenix Forgotten, and today we have a teaser trailer for you to watch.
Ridley Scott is producing the film through his Scott Free production, and it involves the producers behind films such as The Martian, 300, and The Maze Runner, so it's got some pretty heavy Hollywood hitters behind it. It just looks like another found footage type film to me, but who knows, maybe there's something more to it than what we're seeing in this teaser.
