On September 25th, Bfd/Audium Nashville will release Earl Thomas Conley – Promised Land: The Lost Album, a collection of previously unreleased tunes recorded by the late country performer. The first preview of the album is the let’s-take-things-slow number “Better Said Than Done,” which opens the collection.
With a bright production driven by piano and crisp electric guitar leads, “Better Said Than Done” evokes the “Holding Her and Loving You” singer’s popular blend of country and soft rock that made him a chart phenom in the Eighties. “We better...

Singer Bonnie Pointer, who co-founded the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters in 1969 with her sister June, died Monday at 69 years old. Expanding to a quartet with the addition of Anita and Ruth Pointer, the group’s early days were notable for their campy chic attire, their vocal style a throwback to the Thirties and Forties. But in 1974, after scoring a hit with the bouncy Allen Toussaint-penned “Yes We Can Can,” the Pointers released the twangy “Fairytale,” which earned them their sole entry on the country chart at Number 37.

The late producer-songwriter Busbee won his first Cma Award Wednesday night, as the primary producer of Maren Morris’ sophomore release, “Girl,” which picked up album of the year at the ceremony. Busbee, who died Sept. 29 at age 43, was saluted in the telecast first by Blake Shelton and then, later and more emotionally, by Morris, who continued to memorialize her mentor backstage.
“I kind of blacked out during my speech on stage,” Morris admitted in the press room. “But I definitely wanted to make sure that respect was paid to Busbee. You know, we had been nominated for this before, a couple yeaars ago with my album ‘Hero,’ and we didn’t win that year, but we just had the best time going as first-time nominees. And tonight is bittersweet. But more sweet than bitter.”

On “The Voice” finale on Monday, the Top 4 artists performed two solos apiece. The goal for each contestant was to stream the most songs on Apple Music/iTunes by Tuesday at 7 a.m Et/4 a.m. Pt so that they reaped the benefit of a five-times vote multiplier.
We can report the following results: Maelyn Jarmon from Team John Legend registered enough sales to have earned the Apple Music Bonus for the third week running for her chart-topping performances of “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen and “Wait for You.” While her duet with Legend on “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole doesn’t count towards the number of streams, that it also made the top 10 on iTunes reinforces her frontrunner status to win season 16 of “The Voice.”
Of Maelyn’s competition, two of the three men on Team Blake Shelton cracked the top 10 on Apple Music with one of their solos on the May 20 show.

Blake Shelton is looking for his seventh win as a coach and he has a trio of well-regarded artists in the final. The only other coach with an artist still in contention is John Legend. This newcomer to the show has been mentoring the frontrunner, Maelyn Jarmon, who is the last woman standing. The other two coaches were sidelined earlier this season, with Adam Levine losing his last artists at the Top 13 stage of the competition...

“The Voice” finale will showcase the Top 4 singing live for America’s votes on Monday, May 20. Each of the four finalists — Maelyn Jarmon, Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts and Andrew Sevener — will get three chances to sing on the two-hour show. They will do covers and original tunes as well as duet with their coaches.
In this final round of the season 16 competition, the coaches are not evenly matched. Blake Shelton, who won six of the first 15 seasons of “The Voice,” still has those three male artists in contention while rookie coach John Legend counts just the lone woman standing, Maelyn, on his team. The other two coaches — reigning two-time champ Kelly Clarkson and veteran Adam Levine — are left sitting on the sidelines.

There might not be a lot of you out there that know much about Earl Thomas Conley but then again there might be since he was someone that was quite popular in the 80s when it came to the country scene. He was one of those that helped to inspire and build up other talents that came along and saw his own career kind of get sidelined as the 90s came about and country music started getting more progressive. Unfortunately around the 90s he also started suffering burnout and fatigue that didn’t help him to make a comeback, but he

In early 1975, country singer Earl Thomas Conley and R&B performer Anita Pointer were just beginning to pick up steam in their respective careers. While Conley, who died yesterday at age 77, was denting the lower reaches of the country singles chart with his first releases, Pointer and her sisters Bonnie, Helen and June were taking home their first-ever Grammy award — in the Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group category — for “Fairytale,” a stone-country breakup tune Anita had penned about her ill-fated affair with a San Francisco DJ.

Earl Thomas Conley, who enjoyed a nearly unbroken streak of 18 Number One hits in the Eighties — including “Holding Her and Loving You,” “Angel in Disguise” and the duet with Emmylou Harris “We Believe in Happy Endings” — died in Nashville early Wednesday morning, following a battle with a condition similar to dementia. He was 77.
An influential singer who also wrote or co-wrote the bulk of his hits, Conley was memorialized in a Twitter post by Blake Shelton, who wrote: “My heart is absolutely destroyed today… Earl was my all time favorite singer,...

On April 8th, 1988, Columbia Records released Rodney Crowell’s breakthrough album, Diamonds & Dirt. Having released his debut LP Ain’t Living Long Like This a full decade earlier for Warner Bros., the former guitarist in Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band had, in his estimation, finally made a record his father would enjoy. While his earlier efforts veered into rock & roll territory, Diamonds & Dirt was a sharp, focused — but never pandering — stab at widespread commercial acceptance. How widespread was that acceptance? Five consecutive Number One singles. . . a full 50% of the original album’s 10 cuts.

Remember the first concert you ever went to or the first album you ever bought? Blake Shelton does! People caught up with the Voice coach and asked him to share some of his favorite musical memories with us. His answers might surprise you. First concert you ever saw? "Sawyer Brown and a guy named B. B. Watson came to Ada, Oklahoma, and played the Kerr Dome. I just couldn't believe it. I mean, it was the first time I ever saw somebody in person that I've seen on TV. It was just so overwhelming. Mark Miller even had a broken leg.

We'll be blogging live from the press room, which means we'll be commenting on the action you're seeing on TV, but also on what's going on backstage as the artists come back to talk to the press. There are 25 performances in all. Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan are co-hosting for the second year, so there should be plenty of laughs. 8:04 p.m.: The Band Perry opens the show with a midtempo tune called "Chainsaw." It's all sizzle and very little steak, with Kimberly Perry stomping around, confetti flying, and Reid Perry...
