Cliff Gilbert-Lurie is a senior partner at Ziffren Brittenham LLP, where he has practiced since 1986 and serves as co-managing partner. His practice covers a wide-breadth of clients in the entertainment, media, digital, and technologies businesses, including motion picture and television talent, creators of television series, media and software companies, investment funds, and senior executives in the entertainment and media businesses. Cliff has a deep knowledge of the entertainment and media businesses, and sophisticated experience in evaluating business issues, negotiating contracts, advising clients, resolving disputes, and making strategic decisions.
Over the last 20 years, Cliff has been named to virtually all the "Top Lawyers" lists by publications covering the entertainment and legal industries. He has been named as one of the top 100 Power Lawyers by The Hollywood Reporter and has received comparable recognition from Variety. In 2018, Cliff was named Entertainment Lawyer of the Year by the Beverly Hills Bar Association.
Cliff is a former member of the Board of Directors of City National Bank, and former Chairman of the Board of the Alliance for Children's Rights. He also serves as the Chair of the Foreign Policy Roundtable, an organization committed to informing members of the entertainment industry on issues of foreign policy. He is also a former member of the Board of Governors of the Paley Center for Media, and currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Peabody Awards. Previously, he has served on the boards of a number of other charitable institutions, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDs Foundation, and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.
Cliff has been honored by various organizations and is the recipient of the National Champion for Children Award presented by the Alliance for Children's Rights and the Ira Yellin Community Service Award, presented by the American Jewish Committee.
Cliff has appeared on many panels and lectures over the years sponsored by UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, UCSB, The Hollywood Radio & Television Society, and other educational, business, legal, and trade groups, to share his knowledge of the entertainment and media business. He also meets regularly with representatives of MoffettNathanson LLC, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, BTIG, and other leading analysts to discuss his perspectives about the entertainment business.
He is married to Leslie Gilbert-Lurie, and has three wonderful children, Christopher, Gabriel, and Mikaela.
Cliff received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 1979, where he was elected Order of the Coif, and was Associate Editor of the California Law Review. He received an A.B. from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1976, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and with Departmental Highest Honors.
