Invincible is having a great run as an animated series, produced by Seth Rogen under Amazon Studios. The show recently wrapped up its second season, one that ended with a bang. However, there are a lot of things that had to change for the adaptation of the comic, specifically because of how many characters from other IPs it featured in its source material.
Invincible (2021-present)
While comics created under the Image Comics label are owned by their respective creators, the characters do share a world with other IPs, and often crossover with each other during major events. Given that an Invincible live-action film is in the works, it is completely possible that Invincible could kick off a shared Image Comics universe, that could bring to the screen a host of beloved characters.

Up Front & Letters
Dak uses some of the Up Front space in this issue to publish more letters. It’s all to do with this being the end of Ci’s first year and everyone involved is in a mood to celebrate. The letters are basically singing the praises of a job well done and it showcases how well it is selling across the country. There is nothing to write home about in Up Front. Only more of Dak highlighting a good year and rightfully so. He points out how most of not all of the comics featured in Ci have been hits with the fans. On a personal level, #6 of Comics Interview was a big deal because of fans wanting to know about the fallout from the Jla/Avengers incident. East Coast distribution sold out completely. All the good stuff is in the usual letters pages at the back.

Showcase is likely the series that comes to mind when one thinks of Silver Age DC Comics anthologies, but The Brave and the Bold may have an even greater legacy. Sure, the former introduced some of the most important Silver Age heroes, including Barry Allen as the Flash and Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. But The Brave and the Bold changed comics forever with the introduction of the Justice League of America in its 28th issue. Not only did the Jla become DC’s premier superhero team but its success prompted Atlas Comics publisher Martin Goodman to tell his editor Stan Lee to give superheroes a shot, leading to the creation of the Fantastic Four and the Marvel Universe.
So it’s no small thing that DC Comics plans to bring The Brave and the Bold back as part of its Dawn of DC storytelling initiative next year. Spinning out...

James Gunn is one of the most wonderfully zany filmmakers currently working. He has written, directed, and produced movies across multiple genres, but his signature irreverent — and often twisted — sense of humor is always on display in everything he's worked on. Gunn first cut his teeth as a filmmaker working for the low-budget film studio Troma where he wrote "Tromeo and Juliet," a delightfully trashy version of the beloved Shakespeare play. He began making a name for himself in Hollywood with the scripts for "Scooby-Doo," "Dawn of the Dead," and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed." His dark comedic sensibilities really shone through with his directorial efforts, including the horror comedy "Slither" and the superhero sendup "Super." However, it was with his popular "Guardians of the Galaxy" films that Gunn truly established himself as a cinematic force to be reckoned with.

For many observers, the sudden shelving of the nearly-completed Batgirl movie was the harbinger of a crisis at HBO Max. With the long-running Arrowverse coming to an end as The Flash completes its ninth and final season, that film seemed like a pariah, a sign that some shows will live, some shows will die, and nothing will be the same. But early reports indicate that most current series and some in production are still going forward.
Chief among these is Green Lantern, the ambitious show about three generations of space cops. Created by Arrowverse architects Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and The Lego Batman Movie writer Seth Grahame-Smith, Green Lantern demanded a budget to rival those of HBO’s prestige programs, such as Game of Thrones. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s latest animated feature is titled "Green Lantern: Beware My Power", based on an update of the DC Comics character by writer Dennis O'Neill and illustrator Neal Adams from 1972, available July 26, 2022 on 4K, Blu-ray, and digital:
"...recently discharged Marine 'John Stewart' is at a crossroads in his life, one which is only complicated by receiving an extraterrestrial ring which grants him the powers of the 'Green Lantern of Earth'. Unfortunately, the ring doesn’t come with instructions – but it does come with baggage, like a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every 'Green Lantern' in the universe.
"Now, with the aid of 'Green Arrow', 'Adam Strange' and 'Hawkgirl', this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic 'Rann'/'Thanagar' war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed..."

On Wednesday, Bridgerton breakout Regé-Jean Page appeared to address the claim that he was denied a key role in Syfy/DC series, Krypton, because of his race.
“Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more tbh [to be honest],” the actor tweeted. “Still just doing my thing. Still we do the work. We still fly.”
While Page didn’t clarify that he was speaking specifically about Krypton, the word ‘fly’ seemed like a fairly obvious indicator that he was referring to the Superman-centric show.

Before Regé-Jean Page became a global superstar with his breakout performance in Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” he reportedly auditioned for the role of Superman’s grandfather on David S. Goyer’s Syfy comic book series “Krypton.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Krypton” creative team was “passionate about doing some nontraditional casting,” but then-DC Films chairman Geoff Johns rejected the idea and “said Superman could not have a Black grandfather.” Per THR: “The creators also wanted to make one superhero character, Adam Strange, gay or bisexual. But sources say Johns vetoed the idea.”
In a statement to THR, Johns’ representative explained the executive “believed fans expected the character [of Superman’s grandfather] to look like a young Henry Cavill,” thus a Black actor could not be cast as Superman’s grandfather on the show. Cavill appears as Superman in “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Justice League.”

Ever since Crisis on Infinite Earths back in the 1980’s, I’ve always been a sucker for those big DC events featuring dozens of heroes and villains. Legends, Zero Hour, Convergence, Countdown, Infinite Crisis, and many others have come and gone before. Being honest, the story hasn’t always lived up to expectations with these events, but the novelty of throwing all these characters together usually makes up for that. I’m especially a sucker for using obscure or third banana level characters, or teaming up characters from different time periods. Hey, don’t judge me, I’m sure I’m not the only one.

The upcoming Amazon series “Outer Range” has rounded out its main cast.
Lewis Pullman, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, and Isabel Arraiza have all been cast in the series, Variety has learned. They join previously announced cast members Josh Brolin, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Tom Pelphrey, and Imogen Poots.
“Outer Range” centers on Royal Abbott (Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness.
Pullman is set to take on the role of Rhett Abbott, the family’s younger, more rebellious son. He never thought much past his ambition to become a championship bull rider — until a shocking event, and a girl just returned to town, push him to reconsider everything he thought he knew.
Pullman will next be seen in the film “Top Gun: Maverick” opposite Tom Cruise. His previous credits include the Hulu limited series “Catch-22” and...

This is now the third confirmed live action DC series confirmed for HBO Max. Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti are developing a Green Lantern Corps show for the network, and an Adam Strange-themed anthology called Strange Adventures is also in the works. More announcements are likely coming soon.

If the goal of Strange Adventures #2 is to get me to want more Mister Terrific comics, congratulations to Mitch Gerads, Doc Shaner and Tom King, you did it.
We’ve known for a little while now that the second main character in the book would be Michael Holt, one of the three smartest people in the DC Universe and one of the most underutilized and underappreciated characters in the DC pantheon. This second issue gives us our first real look at who he is, and he lives up to his name perfectly.
I genuinely adore how the creators chose to show how brilliant Mister Terrific is. They have him multitasking through the whole issue – his T Spheres ask him trivia questions that start at rote fact repetition, and end up with him giving value judgements on the contents of the questions. He’s even rattling off answers to these questions...

All of the marketing promises that Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, out today for digital streaming, is the final chapter of the DC Animated Movie Universe. Similar to Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame wrapping up a decade’s worth of stories, this too brings everything to a cosmic climax, the likes of which have not been attempted before. The largely successful effort clocks in at 90 minutes, making for the longest film yet in the 38 animated features from Warner Animation.
The film opens with John Constantine (Matt Ryan), now a full-fledged member of the League, in bed with Zatanna (Camilla Luddington), a moment of bliss before impending doom. The language and graphic violence definitely make this inappropriate for the youngest viewers so parents are forewarned.
Darkseid (Tony Todd) has been a looming threat and now, he launches his all-out assault on Earth. With the Titans left to defend Earth, Superman (Jerry O’Connell...

Adam Strange is the quintessential 1950s pulp science hero. On Earth, he was an archaeologist with a boring life (at least relative to the Nazi hunting peaks that we know archaeology professors can hit thanks to the Indiana Jones franchise). He was hit by a mysterious beam of light while on a dig in Peru, and zapped to a faraway planet where he was immediately attacked by the fauna. After solving that problem, he met Sardath, lead scientist of Rann, the planet Strange found himself on. From there, he fell in love with Sardath’s daughter, Alanna, and adventured around the planet with his girlfriend, his jetpack, and his ray gun. But when the effects of the zeta beam that brought him to Rann wore off, he was transported back to Earth and had to chase beam firings around his home planet to make his way back to his new family.

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews or know me personally you may have picked up on the fact that I am a bit of a Superman fan. Ever since I started reading comics back in the late 1970′s, Superman has been my favourite character in any medium. What I love about the character, apart from what he obviously stands for, is just how adaptable he is. Adaptable to different eras, different circumstances, different writers and different artists. That’s because the idea of Superman is a powerful one. What would we do? Save the world? Destroy it? Remake it in our image? Juggle the Earth and the Moon? It’s nice to dream.

Adam Strange examines the legacy of space war in Strange Adventures, the follow-up to King and Gerads' Mister Miracle.
Every Tom King comic is about something more than what it says on the cover. Heroes in Crisis is about processing trauma, even when you're a superhero. The Vision was about how difficult it is to build and maintain a family. And whenever he teams up with Mitch Gerads, it's a pretty safe bet that something special is coming. So Strange Adventures was already looking pretty solid. Especially with Evan "Doc" Shaner joining the art team. But then, when DC announced the release date for the first issue, Tom King said this:
"Adam Strange is one of a long line of characters - like Tarzan and Flash Gordon, stolid men with dimpled chins who thrive in 'foreign lands' - who stand in as a metaphor for a 19th century European dream of colonialism.

Sometimes origin stories go way beyond the normal level that we’re used to and show us the manner in which the beginning of the heroes that we’ve revered before they even exist. This was the case with Krypton, which featured the individual Seg-El, the grandfather of the man that would one day become Superman. Throughout the story he’s visited by Adam Strange, who warns him of the machinations of the villain known as Brainiac in relation to his future grandson. The biggest issue with this of course would be that the issue of time-jumping seems as though it always has

It was a clever choice by Syfy to take Krypton back Two generations from our Man of Steel's time.
It gave them the elbow-room necessary to explore some truly unique aspects of the society and introduce characters known in the DC-verse but not previously fleshed-out in canon.
Although initially there was a strong resemblance to Syfy's Other prequel series, Caprica, which chronicled Another doomed planet peopled with factions and families and feuds, Krypton soon developed a voice of its own.
In the span of ten episodes, we became acquainted with a deeply intricate political/religious system, a complex love story, and a truly galactic imminent danger.

If you’ve been collecting DC animated movies for some time, then you probably remember the Showcase shorts from nearly a decade ago. For those unfamiliar, these truncated stories allowed for the likes of the Spectre, Jonah Hex and Green Arrow to shine alongside whichever feature film they complemented. Not long after, each were compiled on a separate home video release, Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam, which was considerably meatier than its brethren but still technically a short itself.
Now, after a lengthy hibernation, the concept has been resurrected. Soon enough, cult favorites such as Sgt. Rock, Adam Strange, Death and the Phantom Stranger will stand next to whatever corresponding animated flicks Warner Bros. choose. And much like before, each of those will join a lengthier short in the form of Batman: Death in the Family in one handsome Blu-ray package later on in 2020.

According to a new report, James Gunn was offered Superman by Warner Bros. before settling on The Suicide Squad.
James Gunn's Superman? James Gunn's Hawkman? Can you picture it? We can't either, but a new report from THR reveals that the director could have chosen a different path during negotiations with Warner Bros. before he settled on making a new Suicide Squad movie as his next project.
When Warner Bros. began "courting" Gunn after he was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 over a series of unfortunate tweets posted over a decade ago, the studio apparently offered him several DC characters to work on, including Superman. However, after researching the comics, Gunn decided that the Man of Steel just wasn't for him.
The former Disney golden boy, who started off at Troma Entertainment before penning Scooby-Doo in 2002, is now handling writing and directing duties on The Suicide Squad,...

Here is everything we know about Syfy's Superman prequel, Krypton season 2.
Krypton Season 2 is coming! And after the events of that season one finale and all of the crazy implications it brings with it, Krypton season 2 can't get here quickly enough.
But what has really carried Krypton so far has been the fact that, despite being a prequel, it is intent on forging its own path. While it's full of nods to Superman and the wider DC Universe, Krypton has managed to avoid falling into many of the usual prequel traps, and if you think you know how this story ends, you're probably mistaken.
No other details are currently available. But since the first season introduced not only characters directly related to Superman and his homeworld, but also Adam Strange, it's a safe bet that we'll be seeing more of the cosmic side of the DC...
