New Delhi, Sep 3 (Ians) Former Indian cricketers Mohammed Kaif and Gautam Gambhir engaged in a heated discussion over Ishan Kishan and Kl Rahul about who is the ideal candidate for the No. 5 batting position following latter’s impressive 82-run knock against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
During the discussion on Star Sports, Kaif expressed the opinion that, despite Ishan’s impressive half-century against Pakistan, he should make room for Kl Rahul in the lineup. In contrast, Gambhir argued that current form holds greater significance than a player’s reputation or name.
“Kl Rahul is a proven match-winner. At No. 5, his numbers are fabulous. So Rahul Dravid knows, there is that clarity in his mind that…remember, Mohammed Shami was dropped today. So, when Kl Rahul is fit again, he will be playing in the XI and Ishan Kishan will have to wait for his next opportunity,” said Kaid.
“Ishan is doing all that he needs.

New Delhi, Sep 1 (Ians) Ahead of the much-anticipated Asia Cup encounter between arch rivals India and Pakistan, former cricketer Mohammed Kaif shared valuable insights on how Men In Blue can stand up against Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Afridi’s formidable pace and swing.
Kaif emphasized the significance of the initial overs and maintaining a composed approach in the early stages of the match.
“You can practice all you want but on the day of the match, that experience of seeing Shaheen Afridi take his ball, do his swing, and his speed, cannot be recreated in practice. It is good to practice, of course, but that same impression cannot be made. You still need to make the effort, and try to figure out the technique but Shaheen Afridi throwing the ball, walking or running the distance can not be done at practice” Kaif told Disney+ Hotstar.

Indian seamer Mohammad Shami on Thursday expressed the stakes that big tournaments hold.
“For big games, there is always preparation as we have practiced in the training camp. I don’t think we have to analyse too much into the situation, we have the skill and the bowling lineup, so we don’t have to think too much.
“But I have to say one thing, whenever one-day matches come, there has to be focus. So to be focused and to have proper planning,” he told Star Sports.

New Delhi, Jan 16 (Ians) Former India cricketer Mohammed kaif believes that fast bowler Mohammed Siraj’s performance has been one of the biggest takeaways from the side’s recent 3-0 Odi series triumph over Sri Lanka.
In the first Odi at Guwahati, Siraj picked up two wickets with the new ball, while taking one scalp at Kolkata. But it was in the third Odi at Thiruvananthapuram, where his four wickets with the new ball played a pivotal role in giving India a record 317-run victory. Overall, Siraj finished with nine wickets, the most by a bowler, at an economy of 4.05.
“Three key takeaways would be firstly, I think Mohammed Siraj. Wanting to win the World Cup in India on flat conditions, I think Mohammed Siraj has done so well. If you see the last couple of matches he’s been really bowling well, getting the break through with the new ball.

Cuttack, Sep 30 (Ians) Hamilton Masakadza’s blazing bat, with able support from fellow Zimbabwean Solomon Mire (28) and New Zealander Ross Taylor (29), helped the India Capitals inflict a seven-wicket defeat on the Manipal Tigers in the 10th game of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) on Thursday.
Masakadza’s explosive knock of 68 not out off 39 balls (seven fours and four sixes) was crucial as the Capitals chased down a 162-run target with 16 balls to spare. That innings from the 39-year-old overshadowed the effort of Jesse Ryder and Mohammad Kaif from the rival team earlier in the match.
Ryder and Kaif played like they never went away from competitive cricket as they shared a 126-run partnership to help the Tigers post 161/5. While the left-handed Ryder made 76 off 56 balls with five fours and an equal number of sixes, Kaif’s contribution of 67 off 48 balls was no less important. Kaif hit nine boundaries and a six.

Cuttack, Sep 27 (Ians) The eighth match of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) on Monday saw a nail-biting finish as Harbhajan Singh’s Manipal Tigers edged out Irfan Pathan’s Bhilwara Kings by just 3 runs to register their first win of the League.
After a superlative opening partnership between Tatenda Taibu and Jesse Ryder helped the Tigers post 175/8 in 20 overs, the Kings, powered by brothers Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, almost pulled off a thrilling chase at the Barabati Stadium.
The Kings needed 9 runs from the last over to win, but former Sri Lanka speedster Dilhara Fernando conceded only 5, besides also taking two wickets. Fernando finished with 4/31 from his four overs as the Kings ended on 172/9.
The Kings did not get the blistering start that the Tigers had. While Taibu and Ryder had plundered 63 without loss in their Powerplay overs, the Kings managed only 43/1.

Sunday’s clash will see the resumption of the ‘greatest rivalry’ in the world of cricket when India and Pakistan open their Asia Cup Group A campaign. This will also be the first meeting between these two teams after facing off in the Men’s T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, where Pakistan secured a resounding 10-wicket victory over India, their first such win in the Men’s World Cups.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif spoke about Sunday’s high-octane clash on a ShareChat Audio Chatroom session titled ‘CricChat powered by Parimatch’. He spoke on Virat Kohli coming back after a break and set to appear in his 100th T20I match, on whether the absence of left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi gives India an advantage, his ideal India playing eleven and the benefit Pakistan has of previously playing often in Dubai.
