Empire actor Jussie Smollett, who was found guilty in 2021 of felony disorderly conduct stemming from a false police report he filed, has had his conviction overturned.
As first reported by the Chicago Tribune, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned Smollett’s trial verdict on Thursday, determining that the decision to retry Smollett (after charges against him were initially dropped in 2019) violated the actor’s rights.

“Run It Back Show” host Michelle Beadle is in hot water after using the n-word while speaking about the Denver Nuggets. In a video shared on social media, Beadle said, “Michael Porter, Jr., recently said, aw, I don’t like this, the N–gats” before she more clearly said, “the Nuggets” as FanDuel TV co-hosts Lou Williams and Chandler Parsons reacted.
“Don’t try to get me on that,” Beadle continued before she asked, “Lou, are you buying that this is the last dance for the Denver Nuggets?” as Williams and Parsons continued to laugh.

Shannon Sharpe has issued a mea culpa after the three-time Super Bowl champion mistakenly broadcast an intimate moment to his 3M Instagram followers.
Speaking on his Nightcap show, the ESPN presenter said he was “embarrassed” by the mishap and it fell below the standards of professionalism he sets for himself.
Sharpe went live on Instagram on Wednesday with a minute-and-a-half long video that featured audio of an unknown woman apparently moaning in pleasure. The video did not depict the intimate act.
Sharpe initially claimed that his Instagram had been hacked, but later admitted on the Nightcap that the video was his error.
“I came in, I threw my phone on the bed, engaged in an activity. I did not know Ig Live. I’ve never been on Ig Live, I’ve never turned Ig Live on, so I don’t know how it works,” Sharpe explained. He added that his...

Norby Williamson, the ESPN veteran who has managed everything from NFL coverage to “SportsCenter,” is leaving the Disney sports-media giant abruptly just weeks after being called out on camera in a surprise and unprecedented outburst by daytime host Pat McAfee.
The McAfee contretemps is not at the root of Williamson’s departure, according to a person familiar with the matter, but rather disagreements between the executive and the longer-term strategy being devised by Burke Magnus, who was handed oversight of content and news production in March of last year.
“Almost 40 years ago in 1985, I was so very fortunate to be offered an opportunity at ESPN,: Williamson said in a statement that was issued in a memo to staffers Friday. “Due to the exceptional hard work, creativity and commitment of the people of ESPN, and to a much lesser extent my contributions, I’d like to think we’ve left...

ESPN has been giving one of its newest show hosts a lot of rope despite a years-long policy of keeping talent on a very short leash.
Pat McAfee has generated reams of unwanted publicity for the Disney-backed sports-media giant in recent days, allowing frequent guest Aaron Rodgers to spread misinformation about vaccinations; insulting Norby Williamson, an influential ESPN executive who manages many studio shows and tries to keep a tight rein on them, and accusing him of working to sabotage his show in talks to media outlets; and giving Rodgers room to call out Jimmy Kimmel, the ABC late-night host who is one of the most high-profile employees in the Disney empire.
Interestingly, few of the controversies that have surfaced on McAfee’s show have anything to do with ESPN’s raison d’etre: games and sports. Such a program is “unsustainable,” says Joel Lulla, a former attorney for ABC Sports...

Executives at ESPN had high hopes in the Spring of 2018 when they launched a new morning program called “Get Up!” Within weeks, they were wondering whether they ought to put the show down.
The Disney-owned sports network saw the new program as a way to give viewers something other than another hour of its near-ubiquitous “SportsCenter,” and as a bid to offer colorful analysis and opinion in an era when sports facts and stats can be called up on a smart phone at a moment’s notice. The network even took up space in a waterfront studio in New York’s South Street Seaport; mounted cameras outside to get shots of the rolling surf; and set up little studio nooks where hosts and guests could hold one-on-one conversations. And then ESPN dispatched three top prospects – popular radio host Mike Greenberg; outspoken and unflappable Michelle Beadle; and former Indiana Pacer Jalen Rose...

As expected, Michelle Beadle will no longer host ESPN’s NBA pregame show, “NBA Countdown,” but the network is making more changes than that. Rachel Nichols and her daily afternoon studio show, “The Jump” will now serve as the pre-eminent pregame show for ESPN and ABC’s marquee games.
“The Jump” will become the on-site pregame show for all Saturday night games that air on ABC, as well as the Christmas Day game and the NBA Finals. “The Jump” will still air daily at 3 p.m. Et.
“NBA Countdown” will still serve as the pregame studio show for the rest of ESPN and ABC’s NBA schedule, with Maria Taylor taking over as host from Beadle. An individual with knowledge of the plans told TheWrap that Beadle and ESPN are close to finalizing an agreement for the two to mutually part ways.

Paul Pierce isn't a 1-time flatulence offender -- the dude farts on his coworkers all the time ... so says Jalen Rose. Of course, Rose was in the room when Paul let one rip right on Michelle Beadle this week during a taping of ESPN's "Off The Clock." In fact, it was Jalen who called Paul out on the air. Robin Roberts is moving this week from mornings on ABC to primetime. And while the shift is temporary, the business machinations behind it are likely to continue.
Roberts, best known for her regular appearances on “Good Morning America,” will serve this Thursday as an important presence on one night of ABC’s multi-evening coverage of the NFL Draft, an annual highlight for pigskin fans that will also be broadcast on ABC’s sister, ESPN. Both networks are part of the Walt Disney Company, which looks to be making its best play for NFL football as discussions about broadcast rights for the sport are nearing a new round.
“It’s going to be different,” says Roberts in an interview while preparing for the event near ESPN’s Connecticut headquarters. ABC will deliver her coverage on a night its viewers expect soapy fare like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19,” but the...

Days after saying she wouldn’t be watching college or pro football this fall for the second year, ESPN has shifted host Michelle Beadle off its low-rated and football-centric Get Up! morning program.
Beadle will instead host a new post-game show following NBA games on the network called NBA After The Buzzer, which will air after the regular Wednesday and Friday doubleheaders on ESPN.
Beadle spoke out on Get Up! about her disdain for football in the wake of Ohio State’s decision to suspend coach Urban Meyer for three games for not reporting a domestic violence incident involving an assistant coach. Beadle said that football has “marginalized women.”
Her last morning show will be Wednesday. Along with the Beadle move, Get Up! is being pared to two hours from its current three. Host Mike Greenberg will continue with the program along with a rotating cast of guest contributors.

ESPN is retooling its morning show, “Get Up!” announcing Friday that Michelle Beadle will depart to focus full-time on hosting the network’s NBA studio shows. Her last “Get Up!” will be Aug. 29.

ESPN has set a radical new game plan for “Get Up!” its ambitious attempt at a morning sports-talk show that has so far failed to gain the network a broader audience in the time slot.
The Walt Disney-owned network said co-host Michelle Beadle, one of its most colorful and distinctive personalities, would leave the program as of August 29, and move to Los Angeles to focus more intently on her other duties at ESPN as the host of its popular “NBA Countdown.” The basketball program had originated from ESPN’s Los Angeles production facilities before moving to New York to accommodate Beadle’s new morning duties as well as those of “Get Up” co-host Jalen Rose. Michelle Beadle just spent a good chunk of time verbally sparring with professional wrestler Ronda Rousey. She’s got another battle looming on Monday morning.
