Jussie Smollett’s Conviction for Hate-Crime Hoax Overturned by Illinois Supreme Court
Image
Empire actor Jussie Smollett, who was found guilty in 2021 of felony disorderly conduct stemming from a false police report he filed, has had his conviction overturned.

As first reported by the Chicago Tribune, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned Smollett’s trial verdict on Thursday, determining that the decision to retry Smollett (after charges against him were initially dropped in 2019) violated the actor’s rights.

FanDuel TV’s Michelle Beadle Says N-Word While Speaking About the Denver Nuggets | Video
Image
“Run It Back Show” host Michelle Beadle is in hot water after using the n-word while speaking about the Denver Nuggets. In a video shared on social media, Beadle said, “Michael Porter, Jr., recently said, aw, I don’t like this, the N–gats” before she more clearly said, “the Nuggets” as FanDuel TV co-hosts Lou Williams and Chandler Parsons reacted.

“Don’t try to get me on that,” Beadle continued before she asked, “Lou, are you buying that this is the last dance for the Denver Nuggets?” as Williams and Parsons continued to laugh.

ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe Admits He Mistakenly Streamed Sex Act Live On Instagram: “I’m Embarrassed”
Image
Shannon Sharpe has issued a mea culpa after the three-time Super Bowl champion mistakenly broadcast an intimate moment to his 3M Instagram followers.

Speaking on his Nightcap show, the ESPN presenter said he was “embarrassed” by the mishap and it fell below the standards of professionalism he sets for himself.

Sharpe went live on Instagram on Wednesday with a minute-and-a-half long video that featured audio of an unknown woman apparently moaning in pleasure. The video did not depict the intimate act.

Sharpe initially claimed that his Instagram had been hacked, but later admitted on the Nightcap that the video was his error.

“I came in, I threw my phone on the bed, engaged in an activity. I did not know Ig Live. I’ve never been on Ig Live, I’ve never turned Ig Live on, so I don’t know how it works,” Sharpe explained. He added that his...

Norby Williamson Exits ESPN After Nearly Four Decades
Image
Norby Williamson, the ESPN veteran who has managed everything from NFL coverage to “SportsCenter,” is leaving the Disney sports-media giant abruptly just weeks after being called out on camera in a surprise and unprecedented outburst by daytime host Pat McAfee.

The McAfee contretemps is not at the root of Williamson’s departure, according to a person familiar with the matter, but rather disagreements between the executive and the longer-term strategy being devised by Burke Magnus, who was handed oversight of content and news production in March of last year.

“Almost 40 years ago in 1985, I was so very fortunate to be offered an opportunity at ESPN,: Williamson said in a statement that was issued in a memo to staffers Friday. “Due to the exceptional hard work, creativity and commitment of the people of ESPN, and to a much lesser extent my contributions, I’d like to think we’ve left...

Pat McAfee Shatters Old TV Rules and Shows How Much ESPN’s Game Is Changing
Image
ESPN has been giving one of its newest show hosts a lot of rope despite a years-long policy of keeping talent on a very short leash.

Pat McAfee has generated reams of unwanted publicity for the Disney-backed sports-media giant in recent days, allowing frequent guest Aaron Rodgers to spread misinformation about vaccinations; insulting Norby Williamson, an influential ESPN executive who manages many studio shows and tries to keep a tight rein on them, and accusing him of working to sabotage his show in talks to media outlets; and giving Rodgers room to call out Jimmy Kimmel, the ABC late-night host who is one of the most high-profile employees in the Disney empire.

Interestingly, few of the controversies that have surfaced on McAfee’s show have anything to do with ESPN’s raison d’etre: games and sports. Such a program is “unsustainable,” says Joel Lulla, a former attorney for ABC Sports...

Amp, the live audio and radio app from Amazon, has launched a creator fund that will provide select users monthly payments based on show performance.

A spokesperson for Amp told The Hollywood Reporter that “millions of dollars have been allocated to reward Amp creators” but did not provide a specific amount for the total creator fund. The company has also not disclosed the range of payments that creators may receive through the fund.

“Fund size for each creator is dynamic based on a variety of factors each month. These factors may change month to...

‘NBA Countdown’ Host Maria Taylor Hopes to ‘Turn Viewers Into Fans of People, Not Just Players’
As sports fans turn their focus from football to basketball in the wake of Super Bowl Liv, so does ESPN’s Maria Taylor, who has tipped off her first season as host of “NBA Countdown.”

The “College GameDay” and “ABC Saturday Night Football” reporter recently transitioned from the gridiron to the court, and will now be a regular teammate to analysts Jalen Rose and Jay Williams on ESPN’s flagship NBA show for the rest of the season. Moving forward, “NBA Countdown” will also have a “newsier” slant with the addition of reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, according to ESPN.

Taylor fills the host seat that was previously occupied by “SportsCenter” host Sage Steele and most recently, Michelle Beadle. She has already earned high praise from former ESPN analyst Bill Simmons on how she handled the first show following Kobe Bryant’s sudden death. Taylor “did a superb job navigating an emotional,...

After Early Stumble, ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ Did Just That
Executives at ESPN had high hopes in the Spring of 2018 when they launched a new morning program called “Get Up!” Within weeks, they were wondering whether they ought to put the show down.

The Disney-owned sports network saw the new program as a way to give viewers something other than another hour of its near-ubiquitous “SportsCenter,” and as a bid to offer colorful analysis and opinion in an era when sports facts and stats can be called up on a smart phone at a moment’s notice. The network even took up space in a waterfront studio in New York’s South Street Seaport; mounted cameras outside to get shots of the rolling surf; and set up little studio nooks where hosts and guests could hold one-on-one conversations. And then ESPN dispatched three top prospects – popular radio host Mike Greenberg; outspoken and unflappable Michelle Beadle; and former Indiana Pacer Jalen Rose...

Jemele Hill
ESPN And Sportscaster Jemele Hill Part Ways, Ending Her Politics-Tinged Tenure
Jemele Hill
Controversial sportscaster Jemele Hill is out at ESPN, months after her departure as a co-anchor from the network’s SportsCenter.

News surfaced late last night that Hill has been bought out of the remainder of her contract and will reportedly depart by Friday. She is the second prominent female at ESPN to move in the last few days. Earlier this week, Michelle Beadle was removed from the faltering Get Up! morning show and will focus on National Basketball Assn. coverage.

Hill has been fairly low-profile at ESPN since departing earlier this year as co-anchor of the 6 Pm hour of ESPN’s SportsCenter. She was listed on the staff of ESPN vertical The Undefeated as chief correspondent and senior columnist.

Hill is scheduled to appear on Highly Quetsionable with Dan Le Batard this week and on TheUndefeated.com with content related to the Us Open.

The fall from grace by Hill...

ESPN Moving Morning Host Michelle Beadle To NBA Post-Game Show
Days after saying she wouldn’t be watching college or pro football this fall for the second year, ESPN has shifted host Michelle Beadle off its low-rated and football-centric Get Up! morning program.

Beadle will instead host a new post-game show following NBA games on the network called NBA After The Buzzer, which will air after the regular Wednesday and Friday doubleheaders on ESPN.

Beadle spoke out on Get Up! about her disdain for football in the wake of Ohio State’s decision to suspend coach Urban Meyer for three games for not reporting a domestic violence incident involving an assistant coach. Beadle said that football has “marginalized women.”

Her last morning show will be Wednesday. Along with the Beadle move, Get Up! is being pared to two hours from its current three. Host Mike Greenberg will continue with the program along with a rotating cast of guest contributors.

Beadle...

Michelle Beadle Will Leave ESPN’s Morning Show ‘Get Up!’
ESPN is retooling its morning show, “Get Up!” announcing Friday that Michelle Beadle will depart to focus full-time on hosting the network’s NBA studio shows. Her last “Get Up!” will be Aug. 29.

The news comes a day after Beadle, in criticizing Ohio State’s handling of Urban Meyer, said she doesn’t watch either college or NFL football.

“There’s a reason why this will be the second season I don’t watch NFL and I don’t spend my Saturdays watching college football either,” Beadle said on the Aug. 23 show, per Yahoo Sports. “I believe that the sport of football has set itself up to be in a position where it shows itself in the bigger picture to not really care about women — they don’t really care about people of color, but we won’t get into that for NFL either — but as a woman I feel...

ESPN Shakes Up Its ‘Get Up’ Morning Show
ESPN has set a radical new game plan for “Get Up!” its ambitious attempt at a morning sports-talk show that has so far failed to gain the network a broader audience in the time slot.

The Walt Disney-owned network said co-host Michelle Beadle, one of its most colorful and distinctive personalities, would leave the program as of August 29, and move to Los Angeles to focus more intently on her other duties at ESPN as the host of its popular “NBA Countdown.” The basketball program had originated from ESPN’s Los Angeles production facilities before moving to New York to accommodate Beadle’s new morning duties as well as those of “Get Up” co-host Jalen Rose. The former NBA star is expected to continue working on “Get Up” when “he has no ‘NBA Countdown’ responsibilities in Los Angeles,” the network said.

ESPN will also cut “Get Up” to two hours from three,...

ESPN Canceling ‘SportsNation’ As Part Of Afternoon Lineup Changes
ESPN said the final episode of its long-running afternoon show SportsNation will air August 24, part of a revamp of the sports network’s afternoon lineup that includes adding a live edition of SportsCenter and shifting High Noon to a half-hour format. The full new schedule will debut September 11.

“SportsNation has been a staple of our afternoon lineup for years, and while we felt it was time for a change, the collection of talented, creative people and content associated with that show has been extremely impressive and groundbreaking in many ways,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN’s Evp Production and Executive Editor, in sharing the news today.

SportsNation launched in 2009 with Colin Cowherd and Michelle Beadle co-hosting the show based on ESPN’s polls and fan forum section on ESPN.com. The current incarnation is...

ESPN’s Big Swing: ‘Get Up,’ the Morning Show Covering Sports and (Maybe) More
Michelle Beadle
Michelle Beadle just spent a good chunk of time verbally sparring with professional wrestler Ronda Rousey. She’s got another battle looming on Monday morning.

Beadle, the veteran ESPN sportscaster, will team up with popular ESPN radio host Mike Greenberg and former pro-basketball player Jalen Rose to help the Walt Disney-backed sports network open a new front: “Get Up,” a morning show that aims to deliver sports with a little something extra. Or maybe not. But probably.

Can we get back to you in a few weeks?

“Failure is not an option,” says Rose, holding forth in a brand-new studio ESPN designed in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport. “Yes it is,” cracks Beadle, responding to her co-host. “But it’s sort of out of our control.” The set is festooned with neon signs, giant wall screens and a spiral staircase. Viewers will be able to see the sun rise over...

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg Tells Us Why His New Show ‘Get Up!’ Has the Right Chemistry
Mike Greenberg
There are no gimmes in the world of sports or television, but Mike Greenberg believes his new ESPN morning show “Get Up!” has a pretty good shot at success. After 18 years co-hosting “Mike and Mike,” Greenberg is set for a new challenge, this time with Jalen Rose and Michelle Beadle as his wing people and ESPN/ABC veteran Bill Wolff as executive producer. “I couldn’t be more excited… I think we are a decent roll of the dice and with our combined experience and expertise, the four of us are a good bet,” Greeny told TheWrap in a recent interview. ‘The 5th Quarter’ Tells the ‘Greatest Untold and Untrue Stories in Sports History’ (Video)
The 5th Quarter (2016)
Imagine if you combined Espn’s game of the week with your favorite “Saturday Night Live” skit. That gives you an idea of what to expect from the second season of “The 5th Quarter,” premiering on Verizon Media’s go90 platform Thursday. The comedy parody series chronicles “the greatest untold and untrue stories in sports history,” with emphasis on the word “untrue.” Where else would you find top NBA stars such as Blake Griffin and DeMarcus Cousins joining forces with Hollywood stars like George Lopez and Bella Thorne, and having Espn analysts Kenny Mayne and Michelle Beadle offering their commentary on the action?...

Espn's Michelle Beadle Says Trump Deserves No Apology from Jemele Hill
[[tmz:video id="0_3y12n1np"]] Espn host Michelle Beadle scoffed at the idea anyone owes Donald Trump an apology ... especially Jemele Hill. Michelle was on her way to work in L.A., where she co-hosts SportsNation on Espn, and she sure seems squarely on the side of Jemele, who called Trump a white supremacist on her twitter account. Trump is demanding an apology for "untruth" but Michelle is clearly unmoved. Espn is paying a really big price for its politics...

Sage Steele Twitter Trolled After Michelle Beadle Named Host of Espn’s ‘NBA Countdown’
Michelle Beadle
Twitter went wild on Tuesday when news broke that Michelle Beadle would replace Sage Steele as host of Espn’s “NBA Countdown.” Many quickly assumed Steele was fired, as Espn is expected to announce on-air layoffs shortly. However, a source close to the situation told TheWrap that Steele is not expected to be among the layoffs and that she is a big part of the network’s plans. As announced in September, Steele is leading the company’s “SportsCenter on the Road” show and is in the middle of high-profile assignments such as Final Four and The Masters. Also Read:...

She will take over hosting duties immediately while keeping her role as co-host on Espn 2’s “SportsNation.” “It’s the best job in sports,” Beadle said in a statement. “Did I mention that Kawhi Leonard is the M.V.P. of the league?” In her new role, Beadle will lead Disney’s NBA pre-game and halftime shows, including for the NBA Finals on ABC. She will also host Espn’s and ABC’s studio coverage throughout the NBA Playoffs, which includes...

Espn Has Found Its Replacement for Skip Bayless on ‘First Take,’ Colin Cowherd Claims
Skip Bayless in Skip and Shannon: Undisputed (2016)
Polarizing sports commentator Skip Bayless left Espn’s “First Take” to take a gig at Fox Sports and his new colleague believes the network is going to replace him with Max Kellerman. Like Bayless, Colin Cowherd recently left Espn for Fox Sports, and while experimenting with Periscope Tuesday afternoon, Cowherd might have revealed who will be joining Stephen A. Smith on the “First Take” set. Cowherd used to host “SportsNation” with Michelle Beadle, whose current co-host of “SportsNation” is Kellerman (along with Marcellus Wiley), so surprised some fans when Cowherd was asked about his old gig during the Periscope session.

Espn’s Michelle Beadle Rips Network for Giving Greg Hardy ‘Stage for His Redemption Tour’
Bill Simmons
Careful, Michelle — criticizing Espn didn’t end well for Bill Simmons. “SportsNation” host Michelle Beadle tore into her employer during Tuesday’s show, and scolded the network for giving Greg Hardy a podium to begin what she called his “redemption tour.” “I feel dirty,” she began her remarks. “I don’t understand why we’re doing that … I’m a little bit confused.” Later, she doubled down on Twitter, which is posted below her full televised comments. Beadle was none-too-pleased with the Disney-owned cable channel’s decision to allow colleague Adam Schefter to interview the disgraced defensive end, who in 2014 was convicted of domestic abuse.
