Daft Punk is a duo that hardly needs an introduction. From Grammy-winning hit songs like "Get Lucky" to their work on soundtracks to blockbuster movies like "Tron: Legacy," the electronic musicians have conquered the world. But long before Hollywood came calling, the French beat-makers got a boost from the folks at Cartoon Network. Specifically, when the band's anime-inspired music videos aired on Toonami.
Complex did a deep-dive into the history of the anime-focused gamble that was Toonami back in 2017. While the programming block certainly helped give anime a profile boost in the U.S., it also helped out several popular musical acts, Daft Punk among them. As Toonami co-creator Jason DeMarco explained at the time, the duo reached out to them when they were in the midst of premiering an ambitious music video project titled "Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem" tied to their second studio album,...

As GameSquare prepares to add a prominent esports organization to its list of properties, it is selling off a different company in the same field. The Texas-based media company, which is backed by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, has sold Complexity Gaming back to its original owners in a $10.4 million deal.
Complexity Founder and former CEO Jason Lake is acquiring the esports org’s parent company, NextGen Tech, through an investor group named Global Esports Properties. “While it is bittersweet to sell Complexity, there is no one better suited to take over than Jason and his team,” GameSquare CEO Justin Kenna said in a statement.
GameSquare announced the Complexity sale as it prepared to close a blockbuster merger with noted gaming and entertainment company FaZe Clan. That deal has been approved by GameSquare’s shareholders and will be “closing shortly,” according to a news update shared on the GameSquare website.

A few months ago, electro-pop mastermind Kenna got the idea to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise awareness for the worldwide clean water crisis. He recruited a bunch of friends (including Jessica Biel, Santigold, Lupe Fiasco and Emile Hirsch) and scaled to the peak of the tallest mountain in Africa.
It was a remarkably taxing trip, as the climbing crew fought inclement weather, fatigue and altitude sickness and had to constantly ward of frostbite, hunger and dehydration. The whole trek was captured on film, and the special documenting the trip will be airing this Sunday (March 14) at 9 p.m. on MTV.
"Even with as many grandiose illusions that I have had, this has gone beyond my wildest dreams and expectations," Kenna said once he reached the top of the mountain. "The influencers, educators, staff, crew, and publicists have literally braved this on behalf of the world and, in a personally meaningful way,...

Stars have gone to great lengths for good causes before, but in January, a very prominent group of celebs trekked to new heights -- 19,340 feet, to be exact - for the cause of clean water.
The result of that venture is "Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro," an MTV documentary that will air at 9 Pm Est on MTV on Sunday and feature stars ranging from Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas to musicians Lupe Fiasco, Santogold and Kenna - the latter of which put the project together.

New York — To make it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, climbers use high-altitude breathing techniques, a whole lot of rope and some seriously insulated parkas. But not Lupe Fiasco. When he climbed the peak, he did it with some lessons learned from none other than Daniel-san.
"I guess it was one of them 'Karate Kid' moments, you know? I did martial arts for, like, 20 years. My father was a Grand Master for, like, 40 years before he passed. It's just one of those lessons that we were taught," he laughed at the New York premiere of "Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro." "We used to run in the snow barefoot, jump over cars, hang out of trees and do all types of crazy stuff, and that was just part of the training,...

New York — While climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, as part of Kenna's "Summit on the Summit" mission, Jessica Biel got to know the 19,000-odd feet of rock pretty well. In fact, she's pretty sure the mountain is actually a woman.
"She was like this mysterious, foreboding, ominous woman. And she was hidden almost all day long, and just when you were unmotivated, and feeling like crap and uninspired and thinking, 'What am I doing here?' the clouds would part and she would peek out, and the beauty would strike you, and then you'd be inspired again," Biel told MTV News on the red carpet for the premiere of "Summit." "Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro" doesn't premiere on MTV until Sunday at 9 p.m. Et, but you can get a sneak peek of the documentary, which follows Kenna and his team's treacherous trek up Africa's highest mountain, right now.
In February, Kenna, along with fellow musicians Lupe Fiasco and Santigold, actors Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas, and a team of scientists and experienced mountain guides, climbed to the peak of Kilimanjaro — some 19,000 feet above sea level — with the goal of raising awareness about the global clean-water crisis. It's an epidemic that hits close to home for the Ethiopian-born artist.
