With the lighting of the torch at Friday night’s Opening Ceremony, the 2022 Winter Olympics are in full swing. Between Covid, China’s political controversies and a quick turnaround from the Summer Olympics, Beijing 2022 is certainly set to be an unusual Games. However, there are also many records to be broken and stars, both reigning and rising, to keep an eye on.
Team USA’s roster boasts a whopping 224 athletes, ranging from 16 to 40 years old. These will be the fifth Olympics for veteran athletes John Shuster, Katie Uhlaender, Shaun White and Lindsey Jacobellis. And for the first time since 1968, each American gold medalist from 2018’s Games are coming back.
Whether you’re tuning in to see if snowboarding champs Chloe Kim and Red Gerard will repeat their 2018 victories, or to watch Shaun White compete in his very last Olympics, here are nine returning athletes to watch at the 2022 Olympic Games.

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea officially begin with the opening ceremony on Friday night, February 8, launching two weeks of competition that will showcase the world’s best skaters, skiers, snowboarders, hockey players and more. But of course the most important question is, how well can they cha cha?
“Dancing with the Stars” returns on April 30 for its 26th season, but it will be an irregular competition in more ways than one. First, the season will last only 4 weeks, far shorter than the 10 to 12 weeks we usually get. Second, the season will consist entirely of athletes, which means the show will be well positioned to recruit some Olympians fresh off their glorious victories — or perhaps their tragic defeats. And this wouldn’t be the first time. Ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White both competed on “DWTS” (season 18) immediately after winning gold medals in the 2014 Winter Olympics in...

The Winter Olympics may be over and the crowds have packed up and left Sochi, but the stray dogs that captured the world's attention are still there. And so is Oleg Deripaska, the Russian billionaire who developed much of the area and is now determined to do what he can to shelter and find homes for the area's estimated 4,000 dogs. "It is a problem, a big problem," says Deripaska in an exclusive interview with People, while flipping through countless photos of strays on his cellphone. "Here, look," he tells his visitor a moment later, pointing to a picture of ten puppies in a cardboard box.

"This Sochi Stray scored a one way ticket to the USA with @LindsJacobellis #luckydog #justintime," tweeted cross country skier Holly Brooks, along with a pic of Jacobellis and her new best pal. Gus Kenworthy will be so pleased! (The skier stuck stayed in town after his silver-medal showing in the slopestyle event to ensure that the family of strays he has come to call his own will...

NBC’s primetime Olympics broadcast Sunday will be remembered as the night that reporter Christin Cooper made Bode Miller cry by essentially asking what he was saying to his late brother, Chilly, when he spoke to the sky before his run in the men’s Super-g. We’ve devoted a separate item to it, which includes Miller’s response to the backlash against Cooper, and you can read that here. I think it was a fair question — considering how open both Bode and his wife Morgan, who’s allowed herself to be mic’d during Bode’s events in Sochi,...

When it's time to hit the slopes, Lindsey Jacobellis needs to get in the zone. The Olympic snowboarder revealed to E! News that when she's in a "funk," there is one specific musical artist she jams through her headphones to help lift her mood and focus. "I race to her and when I'm training she always puts me in such a great mood. And it's a very unique sound that she has." Let's not forget, her hips don't lie, either.
