- Instrumental in bringing the "Curious George" children stories to TV and films in the late 70s. The stories were created by H.A. Ray and wife Margret in 1941. Shalleck collaborated with Margret after H.A. Rey's death in 1977. The feature film Curious George (2006) was released three days after his unexpected death.
- Was found beaten to death on February 7, 2006, outside his mobile home. His body was left under garbage bags near the driveway. Two men, Rex Spears Ditto, 29, and Vincent Puglisi, 54, were eventually arrested for first degree murder after confessing to the home invasion, murder and robbery of Shalleck.
