Henrik Lundqvist is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He holds the record for most wins by a European-born goaltender in the NHL. During the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, he led the Swedish men's team to their second Olympic gold medal.
Recorded his first NHL win on October 13, 2005 at Madison Square Garden
vs. the New Jersey Devils in a 4-1 win, and earned First Star
honors.
Posted his first career shut-out in an October 17, 2005 home game vs.
Florida, stopping all 23 shots in a 4-0 win.
Named the NHL's Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending
Sunday, January 22, 2006; Led the Rangers to three victories and posted
a 1.62 goals against average and a 94.5% save percentage over the
span.
His 30th victory made the Rangers the first team in NHL history to have
a rookie goaltender total at least 30 victories in the same season that
a rookie skater registered at least 30 goals (the rookie skater was
Petr Prucha).
